With Fall approaching I am in full “what to wear this year” mode. Scouring fashion sites, reading up on the Fashion Week blogs and street style posts, and of course pinning around on Pinterest. My biggest problem tends to be balancing the work-life meets personal-life (lets face it: mom-life) without falling into the pigeon hole of normal mom wear: see those tees with mantra/cute sayings on them? yea, that’s far from my style.

As I near 40, I have finally understood what works for me style and silhouette wise. Sure, there are those moments where I can wow and impress, or challenge a fashion rule--but mainly, I know what to stick with, brands and all. But with my young children consuming most of my non-work hours, I don’t have the time to sift through my closet and put together fabulous outfit combinations anymore like days past.

So my plan to action this year is to rely on layers and accessories. My goal is to find and invest in classic, tailored pieces to layer with other options throughout my closet. Jackets, blazers, vests, perfectly fit denim and trousers...all of these paired with cool statement-y jewelry pieces and transitional handbags. Maybe even a sweater duster here or there, but something stunning and unique because too basic and I’ll look like all those other moms just trying to throw something on!

Killer shoes are another option for me this year. In the past years, Ive focused on sticking to the same 5 pairs throughout a season and worn them to the ground. This year I need to be more adventurous on what Im finishing my outfit with on my feet. I’ve been finding a bunch on Poshmark, and I’ll admit to only pulling the trigger on one pair -- but there are a few that I am craving!!

I’ve added a few options for my style board for Fall 2018. Versatile outfits that can transition from work day to mom day. Casually cool and fashionable outfits, all of which work for me. There’s something about these outfits that makes me feel confident and commanding--two things that every working mama needs to feel day in and day out.

My second daughter is now 2 weeks old, almost exactly 2 years from her big sister. Being a mother of 2 girls, I wonder everyday if I am doing it right. Am I leading a good example of being a woman? Am I loving them equally, enough? Am I setting a pure and loving example of my relationship with their father, my husband? Am I doing all that I can for each of them?

I came across this quote and it reminds me of how simple I can make things with my girls, without worrying too much. Love them. Of course - this is the simple part - this happens unconditionally so for every parent. Its the love that no one can explain until they have a child of their own - a love that fills your entire body, pulsating through it at extreme speed and with pride.

Leave her wild. This may be tricky for some to hear or even agree with. But for me, this speaks the truth of how I grew up becoming a woman of my own. I was one to always have an independence, never relying on someone to do or finish things for me. I walked to the beat of my own drum, I let inspiration carry me to places where my own mother probably worried about me. I have an outlook on life that was always realistic, and I always believe that everything happens for a certain reason. I laugh, often and with my closest friends. I didn’t disobey rules, but I certainly challenged them. I let people into my life that were instinctively supposed to be there - whether they are still with me today or were just postmarks on my journey, they each molded me into someone I am proud to have my daughters look up to.

So as I finish out my time at home, I will remember to breathe and find the truth deep inside of me that my girls will be ok. Of course my love is never ending for them, and I will ‘leave them wild-’ I will allow them the opportunity to figure life out on their own. Today, it may only be how to put a puzzle together or identifying the animal with spots on it, but they’ll be the ones conducting their own path in life, and I can only guide them.
