The hurt on his princesses face grew more and he couldn’t help but slightly regret even mentioning the marriage to her. Though, he also didn’t want to hold anymore secrets from her. He was already holding back who he truly was from her. Leading her outside, he reached for her hand and held it gently. “It isn’t but–it does help to focus on the two of us.” He smiled. A bit of silence was held after he spoke before he stopped and turned to her. “You know I do plan to ask you to marry me in the future. I just want to get it approved by your father first.”

There was a soft smile on her face as she listened to Reyner. he was her whole world, she loved him more than anybody and anything else and truthfully, she couldn’t see anybody else by her side but him. The way he spoke, it all sounded like a proposal --- subtle, sweet, gentle, just like him. “I will readily say yes to it, no matter when it happens. Father will see reason in it. He will see that you care deeply about me and mean well with me.” Andrea reached up then, gently kissing him. “I’m already looking forward to it. I really want to be your wife, more than anything in the world.”

He couldn’t help but frown as he gazed at his princess. She was betrayed and honestly, he wasn’t happy that she was hurt. Holding her close to him and doing his best to ignore the whimpers and words coming from the other princess and the king, he began to slowly tug Andrea towards the exit of the castle. “Let’s go. It’s evident that she’s not honest.” He replied with a frown. His gaze lifted from her to watch the two dash off towards Marlana’s room. He wasn’t surprised. Vortigern was getting exactly what he wanted and it was too late to warn the blonde about his intentions. “Come. The gardens are empty..and quiet.”

Perhaps what hurt most was the face that she heard Marlana giggle just as a door shut close. So she had really sunken that low already while pretending to be so against Vortigern such a short while ago. No words could describe just how disgusted Andrea felt with Marlana’s actions. Quietly, Andrea walked outside with Reyner, to the gardens. Somehow, that was always their go to place when they wanted to be alone. “The gardens sound nice. Just the two of us, nobody around....it’s no different than what we’d do at home.” A small chuckle escaped her lips and she smiled softly up at him. That was the fascinating part about Reyner. He always managed to take her mind off things.

“I understand but you can’t do that, Andrea. Vortigern may harm you for trying to step in his way. I can’t lose you.” He replied before feeling her let go of his hand. She was stubborn and he understood why though, he was more afraid of what the king might do. Following behind her, he called out to her but was quickly hushed as he stood next to her to see the king and his wife to be, kissing against the wall. Noticing Andrea’s expression and her reaction, he quickly held her. “That’s a shocking turn of events…” He whispered. “I’m sorry, princess.” He didn’t know what to say as he could see the hurt on her face. “We should get out..of the castle. Get some cool air.”

In a way, she felt deeply betrayed, especially considering Marlana was telling her how she considered Vortigern to be vile and disgusting mere moments ago. And now this. Feeling Reyner take a hold of her, she leaned against him, feeling very, very nauseous. “I can’t believe what she’s doing,” she whispered. “just... please. please get me out of here. I’m getting more and more sick the more I’m watching them.” With that, she turned around and hid her face in his chest, not wanting to see what was plainly obviously happening in front of her eyes. She never thought Marlana would be one of those who were just pretending to be what they clearly weren’t.

Her joking and teasing always had him smiling. Feeling her hand reach for his and giving it a gentle squeeze, he smiled faintly. The conversation with Vortigern had irked him greatly. For him to have ditched the king, Vortigern was awful relaxed over it. Which had him wondering if the king was up to something or was he really meaning what he meant. Sighing softly, he looked back at his princess. “Yes. To Marlana.” He replied quickly, frowning. “For several reasons. She has no idea who he really is, Andrea. It’s best to not come in between them. I know she is your friend but–this is on her.”

“That is exactly the reason why we have to get between them. I can’t lose my friend to that monster. Not too the man that threatens to destroy our home, Reyner!” her tone was almost a begging on, and Andrea turned to look on whether or not she could spot Marlana anywhere. no luck. Though she did notice Vortigern was gone as well. She had to find her, warn her, there was no other way. Letting go of Reyners hand, Andrea moved towards the exit of the room, the large double doors leading outside into the hallways. She, however, did have to look for Marlana for too long. There she was, illuminated only by candlelight, kissing Vortigern was if there was no tomorrow. Andrea’s stomach turned and she leaned against the wall. “oh gods...”

By this time in his life, Deril had gotten used to being treated as an accessory. Not just to murder, but to life. He had been nothing but a mere plot device for his parents - always pushed to do things because they demanded it. Recently, he had tried to break out into his own story, but with threats still lurking overhead, he had little wiggle room. He couldn’t afford a mistake. He couldn’t afford to make a life for himself without putting it in danger. Unless, of course, he did something drastic. Like completely disappear or die. Still, he didn’t take that option, since he knew his parents, when on a true rampage, were much more deadly than he could ever be. At least he could do damage control if he stayed around.

He couldn’t have picked a better night for his parents to have a date night (a murderous date night, but still). So many people from so many countries were here. People he rarely had a chance to see otherwise. He supposed that was the outcome when a netural ball was announced. People need not worry about the dangers of war… or so they thought. Dearil’s eyes soften slightly. “Fair enough. This is my first time at an event such as this. Never before have I seen such a feast,” he laughed lightly. His family weren’t rich or titled enough to go to royal balls. They were notorious enough to get invited to war room meetings though… Dearil had an easy preference. Naos… not in his wheelhouse. “Excuse my lack of knowledge. I have not ventured outside of Briton in quite some time.”

Andrea rarely had a chance to meet somebody who was a newcomer to such events. Then again, sometimes she wished she could be one herself, just re-discover royal balls and gatherings anew. She still remembered the very first time she was at a ball, when she was only thirteen and her father “officially” introduced her to everybody gathered. She also remembered that all the attention made her slightly uneasy --- she felt crowded mroe often than not, and perhaps that was the reason why she preferred solitude during such grand events these days. Besides that, it was pretty much always the same. Good food, lots of drinks, music and people pretending even more to be something they weren’t. They all thought themselves chivalrous and noble when truth was far from it.

Pulling herself out of her thoughts, she offered the young man a warm smile. “How are you liking it so far? It is quite a grand happening you sadly do not get to see every day.” And it was perhaps a bit too overwhelming. Whether or not the presence of certain individuals were to blame for that, she couldn’t tell. “Please, that is nothing to apologize for. Naos is very small, potentially a kingdom that won’t be one soon, and become just one of the many conquered by Britain sooner or later.”

Her smile grew, noticing Andrea’s blush. She didn’t blame her. After all, Reyner was nice on the eyes. Chuckling, she nodded. “It is. You look at him as if you’re in love…” She trailed off, glancing towards Vortigern. Even she had been struckin with admiration for a man. Not that she would ever admit to it. Especially since most despised the king. She turned her attention back to Rea and smiled. “I won’t say anything. Trust me. But-that’s so sweet and cute. Have you thought about speaking to your father about him? I mean, it’s not like–your father is a complete arse.” Marlana chuckled once again. Then her eyes shifted down. “Yeah. That’s the thing–every pendragon male is gorgeous. Including Vortigern…” She quickly looked up at Andrea. “Not that I’d ever you know–like him or anything. He’s terrible.”

“You’ve no idea how many times I wanted to do that, but never actually dared to say a word about it,” Andrea replied, the smile on her face fading a bit, yet still remaining there. Reyner made her happy, and it came to the point where she didn’t know how to live without him by her side. One day. One day both of them would gather the courage to speak about their relationship to her parents openly, though given the situation, the young princess knew it would be a very bad time, not to mention that it would be frowned upon at the current state of things. A small frown formed on her face, brown eyes darting to the head of the house Pendragon. Marlana did have a point, that was true. “He is terrible indeed. But to deny he isn’t good looking would be a mistake.” Even she had to admit it, no matter just how much she despised he man who threatened her people and her home on a daily basis. “You know what we should do? Considering none of us were approached, we should dance together.”

She felt so warm and smelled so good. Then again, she always smelled good to him and was always such a sight to his eyes. Thankfully no one was paying them any attention. “You flatter me, your highness.” He chuckled, quickly placing a kiss to her cheek. At the mention of Vortigern, he glanced down and loosened his arm from around her. “No. No trouble. Just friendly conversation is all. He’s getting remarried. I feel sorry for the broad.”

“Oh but no, Sir Reyner. I merely state the truth,” Andrea replied, hand reaching for his and giving it a gentle squeeze as she felt his grip on her loosen a bit. While she didn’t truly know if it was a friendly conversation, or how the two of them could have one considering Reyner hated Vortigern, but it was civil if nothing else. Besides, he had never given her a reason to doubt his words. And yet, the news he just delivered shocked her greatly, even more than Marlana’s news. Putting two and two together, the grip on Reyners hand tightened. “He… he is getting remarried? And, and…. and Marlana… she… he is marrying Marlana!”

She was beautiful and he found it hard to not stare at her. Now that she was alone and Vortigern had turned his attention to Marlana, now was the chance to rejoin his own princess. He moved to where she stood and gently slipped an arm around her. “You’re the most beautiful princess in this room.” He whispered, leaning into her ear.

At first she jumped, feeling an arm wrap around her, though the soothing voice of her beloved knight had her relax and lean against him. While to anybody else it might have looked as if he was keeping close to keep her safe, they could enjoy a few moments together without being discovered immediately. “To you, I always am. Thankfully there is no handsomer knight or price or king in this room than you.” And yet he still could make her feel flushed with his words every time. “I saw you talk to king Vortimer. Is there any trouble?”

Marlana chuckled. “Yes you do. Trust me…” Her eyes gazed around to see where Reyner was and she couldn’t help but smirk back at Rea. “Besides, seems like a certain knight has eyes for you.” She nudged her in a teasing manner. “He’s cute. You should go for it.” She wanted to see Andrea happy. Especially at times like this. Happiness wasn’t everywhere and even the naive blonde princess knew it. Eyes flickered down for a moment once again. “I don’t have a choice. It’s probably one of his sons. Besides, I don’t think they’re like him.” She replied, glancing back over to the Pendragons. “I mean it’s not the worst thing right?”

The moment Reyner was mentioned, Andrea couldn’t help but blush in a deep red colour, cheeks feeling warm and eyes averted to the ground. “Is it that obvious?” she asked, daring to glance at Marlana and thankfully finding no judgement in her eyes. “it’s not just one-sided, you know? He loves me and I love him. But don’t tell anybody!” She couldn’t have her father know, at least not at that point. They would approach him, with time, when things at the border with Britain settled down. looking back over at the Pendragons, she did have to agree with the Norwegian princess. “They both seem very sweet. not to mention good looking. If they’re not like him, it is surely not the worst thing. Though, I do still worry.”

Her smile grew as they hugged on another. Marlana felt more relaxed at this point now that a familiar face was around and she wasn’t the only princess who wasn’t dancing. Andrea was one of her good friends despite the differences in countries and the lack of seeing one another. “Yeah, it is–though, just give it time. I’m sure someone will look your way and ask you to dance.” The blonde replied. The room was filled with beautiful couples and oddly, it was sort of lonely to her. Her eyes glanced down for a moment before she looked at Andrea. “It’s wonderful to see you as well.” She smiled brightly. “Yeah—but, not for long. Father informed me that I’m getting married…and before you ask, no, i don’t know who yet–just that he’s a pendragon.” She couldn’t help but laugh before glancing to where the pendragons sat. Mainly at Vortigern who–she seemed to not keep her eyes from since he entered the room.

"Have you seen the other princesses in the room? I don’t even stand a chance,” Andrea joked, gently nudging Marlana in return. Everybody was looking their best, which was to be expected. After all. a grand event such as this, where there was no hostility despite differences between kingdoms, was a rare thing these days, especially with Vortigern threatening the world on every step. And yet, even he seemed to have buried the war ax for once and have joined the festivities like the rest of the guests. At Marlana’s words, Andrea’s eyes went wide and she looked at her, clearly shocked with the news. While her getting married was wonderful, the to whom part was had her alarmed. “A... a Pendragon? That’s... are you sure you want that? I mean... you know how they are, right? At least Vortigern.”

Dearil figured he’d make the best of the evening: meeting people, making good impressions, and the like. If anything, it’d make his parents happy to know that he could talk with higher-ups without royally screwing up. Although not the strictly intended invitee, he still knew his way around the courts. Still, he wasn’t his parents and had a bit of a harder time around people. Not that he was socially awkward, but he just had too much of a guard up to be of any use to people. Just pretend you like people and their company. It should be fine.

His eyes drew to yet another lone person in the crowd. Beautiful, dressed in fine cloth, a crown to complement her. He wondered if she too felt the chasam between the world and herself as he often did. Although, that could be more be attributed to the way he lived his life.

“My lady,” he smiled, bowing to her. “I do not believe I have ever laid eyes upon you. Where are you from?” he asked, his head tilting slightly. He had lived in Camelot all his life; he still didn’t have quite the grasp of the vastness of the world in which he lived.

The thing with her was, she was used to getting ignored at events like these. Her father didn’t necessarily push marriage onto her, and her brothers usually were the ones that got all the attention. Andrea, personally, didn’t mind it one single bit. that way he got the chance to observe whoever was present, observe all the different faces, enjoy the food and drinks and listen to whatever music the musicians felt like playing. Yes, there was the occasional one or the other dance, at times even innocent flirting, but it never went beyond that. More than anything, Andrea enjoyed conversations if she indulged in them.

It seemed as if she was getting the chance to do just that, especially during an event such as this one, where so many people from so many different backgrounds and cultures gathered at one place to enjoy themselves. Upon being addressed, Andrea smiled gently and curtsied, inclining her head towards the young man. “That would be because I rarely attend events such as these, sir,” the princess quipped. “I come from a small kingdom named Naos.”

Not a single male had asked her to dance and frankly she was a bit bummed. Seemed as if they had other pretty women to ask, including her own sisters. Marlana gazed around until she spotted another princess in one of the corners. Andrea. She was good friends with her and it surprised her that she wasn’t dancing herself. Slowly, the blonde princess made her way towards her and slide next to her, giving her a soft nudge. “No prince huh?”

Finally, she was approached perhaps by the only other person she knew in the grand hall besides her family and Reyner --- Marlana. A bright smile spear across her face and she set the goblet down to hug her, all protocol set aside. They were friends, after all. “Honestly, I’m glad there is none. At least none so far, but the night is still young.” there were many beautiful princesses in the room, and somehow, Andrea doubted she’d spike a prince’s interest, especially not with her brothers being so protective of her, and then there was Reyner. “It’s so good to see you again, Marlana. You’re, if I may notice, without a prince as well.”

Her brothers have been teasing her all the way to the castle of how all possible princes would try to court her. While they meant well, Andrea doubted that would be the case. She preferred smaller festivities, with much less people. Thankfully nobody approached her thus far and after Reyner left her side for a bit, the Naosian princess found herself a somewhat quiet corner where she remained, occasionally sipping on a goblet of wine and watching her brothers socialize. Half of her hoped nobody would actually notice her.
