Cellulose nitrate was used to make dice from the late 1860s until the middle of the twentieth century, and the material remains stable for decades. Then, in a flash, they can dramatically decompose. Nitric acid is released in a process called outgassing. The dice cleave, crumble, and then implode.
From Dice: Deception, Fate & Rotten Luck by Ricky Jay and Rosamond Purcell, 2002.

This is painful. John Blanche has passed on.
Games Workshop and Warhammer would be nothing, and I do mean NOTHING, without him.
He was the beating heart of GW's worlds, made theses little toy games feel like they had a whole universe behind them.
His body of work is STAGGERING, and the amount detail he packed into each piece truly dwarfed the game itself.

Following graduation and his father's death, a 16 year old Orson Welles decided to spend 1931 touring Ireland and the Aran Islands in a donkey cart sketching and painting things. It is during this tour that Welles made his professional acting debut, when he strode into Dublin's Gate Theatre claiming to be a famous Broadway star from America who was looking for acting parts while he was in the country.
Hilton Edwards, the manager of the theatre, reportedly didn'y buy for a second that the American teenager who had just rolled up in a literal donkey cart was a Broadway star, but the audacity impressed him enough to give him a part in in Ashley Dukes's adaptation of Jud Süß as Duke Karl Alexander of Württemberg. This led to various other theatre acting gigs around Ireland, but alas when he tried moving to London to get work there he wasn't able to get a work permit, and had to return to the US to continue his new career there instead.
Another day, another bananas Orson Welles fact.
