people always describe the system experience as either the host makes all the decisions with input from their headmates, or the headmates vote and come to a collective decision, but what i experience is more closer to a dictatorship where whoever’s fronting at the moment does whatever the fuck they want until they leave and then it repeats with the next fronter and the one after that too.
maybe plurality is keeping different wallpapers ready so different folks can feel more at home in this life. Maybe plurality is gently taking someone’s hand in yours, even though both hands belong to the same body. Maybe plurality is calling out goodnight to the person that’s taking over for you as you slowly slip out of the conscious for the night. Maybe plurality is putting on the perfume your headmate likes because she’s definitely going to be helping you get through the day.
maybe plurality is kindness. A kindness of the brain extended to a tiredness of the soul.
maybe it’s casual. Maybe it’s gentle. Maybe we’re all still learning how to live with each other. Maybe we don’t have to be anything complicated and explainable. Maybe plurality just… is.
Most* lifelong singlets will never know what it's like to be literally told you are not real. Not just "oh this aspect of you isn't real" but a literal "You are not real. You do not exist and you never will."
Most lifelong singlets do not know the suffering that comes from people saying "I think you're [this other person] instead."
And this is not me saying that people denying *parts* of singlets (your disability, race, sex, gender identity, orientation, etc) isn't traumatic and horrible. It is. You don't deserve to have ANY part of you denied.
But to have someone genuinely think you are nothing. Genuinely, unironically think you *entirely* don't exist. That you are merely roleplay or imagination. That there is only one person in the body, and that it's *not you.*
That is something lifelong singlets usually do not experience.
I don't get how plurals can do that to other plurals. I don't get how you can say "Actually you don't exist. You are literally fake" when that's exactly how singlets treat you. And I don't understand how you can call that "discourse" instead of what it actually is - cruelty beyond measures. Erasure beyond measures.
I will not and cannot EVER be around someone who simply humors me as a "concept" or a "game" rather than an actual fucking existing being. Never.
-Marco (she/he), a headmate in a endotrauma system with diagnosed DID.
*There is massive solidarity to be found with singlet schizospecs who are being abusively told "you aren't real!" as an attempt to trigger derealization hallucinations. Same for singlets who are accused of being bots or faking their identity/sockpuppeting online.
My partner was against the idea of our plurality at first. One of the only times I almost left them it hurt so bad. Especially since in there eyes, I am or was the secondary person because he started dating another first
Being told "i dont think thats true" when you are being vulnerable hurts beyond measure and crushes you flat.
People need to listen when we tell them. We are we. No amount of wishing us to be one person will make that so.

while many people talk about the time in their life in which they were either a singlet or believed themselves to be one, it is also a normal plural experience to have never experienced such things. some people were always plural or always knew themselves as systems in some way, shape, or form, regardless of their knowledge of systemhood at that point in time. with such the variety of plural experiences, there are so many different and completely natural experiences one can have in relation to figuring out their systemhood.
So, all systems heal differently
It's completely okay if you aim for functional multiplicity! It's good not to be alone, and it's nice to have the support of your headmates.
It's also okay if you aim for Final Fusion! I'm sure you will become a very strong person that you can be proud of.
And it's okay if you don't know what to do yet, or you don't have any solid plans for the future. Sometimes it's good to just go with the flow for a while.
No matter what you do, it'll be a difficult journey. But you can do it! Recovery is no easy feat. Just living with plurality is no easy feat, so keep your head up high and be proud of yourself for making it so far!
Wait hang on... was I traumatized as a teenager? *thinks about it for a bit* Well I can't remember anything traumatic so it's probably fine.
