Happy Birthday to our congressman!
Thinking about that theory about Steve being colorblind before the serum so imagine how he felt when the first time he saw Bucky in full color was when he found him strapped down to a table after being experimented on, bruised, bleeding and disturbed.
He probably would just stop and take in his best friends sight in full color, in the middle of a gathering, everyone talking and laughing while he registers that (this) is Bucky.
The last time Bucky slept was the night before Feb. 1st, 1945, prior to plummeting hundreds of feet into the freezing ravine below— and even this is up for debate because at this point he has already been experimented on and tortured in Hydra Base Camp C3.
He lost his consciousness after hitting the ground, and woke up just barely as soldiers dragged him into what would be his prison for the next 70 years.
In his therapy session in TFATWS, he meant every breath when he said he was fighting for 90 years. Up until reaching Wakanda, this man didn't truly rest once.
Even after fleeing Hydra at the end of CA:TWS, he most definitely wasn't able to sleep at night, he wouldn't be able to grasp the idea of laying down and just RELAXING after years of blinking in between missions, torture, training, etc. And considering his memories from the 40s were fragmented and foggy, he had issues with trusting himself and his own judgment so even alone, with himself, he felt unsafe and scared.
I like to think Bucky has a soft spot for Bob and he gets defensive around him because Bob reminds him of himself and Steve before the serum.
Like imagine John is being mean to Bob and Bucky just Spawns behind Bob, looking very unfriendly.

I love the idea that Walker silently admires Bucky a LOT, and he does seek validation from him to some degree. All things considered, I do understand Bucky's disdain towards him but its so miserably hilarious to think of Walker trying to be smug all the time until Bucky barely acknowledges something he did or agrees with him and Walker just perks up like a happy dog, tries to act indifferent (and fails).
Bucky: Do you ever get pre-annoyed? Like you already know someone is going to annoy you?
Bob: What? No.
[Walker walks in]
Bucky: [jaw clenches]
Bucky: Don't break someone's heart, they only have one.
Yelena: Yeah, break their bones, they have 206 of those.

“Athazagoraphobia is the intense, often debilitating, fear of forgetting loved ones, memories, or skills, as well as the fear of being forgotten by others.”

You ever think Bucky developed a deep fear of losing his memories, that even forgetting something trivial can have a very bad effect on him?
Yeah.
Mid-conversation Sam lightheartedly says “You don’t remember this?” and continues talking. Figure of speech, habit, we all do it sometimes.
But Bucky freezes, and begins diving into his own mind, making sure everything is where it belongs. This could cause a spiral of doubt, where he second guesses himself. He instinctively reaches to the notebook and looks through it, his brain barely registering the conversation at this point.
Sam notices and asks if he’s okay, if something happened, but Bucky is foggy, unsure.
“Yeah…yeah I’m fine”
His response is distant, eyes squinting at the horizon behind Sam, trying to process why he feels like this.
Rewatching the Captain America trilogy really made me realize how little of 40s Bucky we see, which makes him all the more tragic… only 8 minutes of screen time in the first movie, I literally said “Already?” when they got to the train
The first third of the movie, we seen him smiley, confident, talkative, and he cracks jokes all the time. Even when he isn’t smiling or happy, his face just looked so different, so lively.
Then he’s missing for most of it, only to be reintroduced but now disturbed, broken and in disbelief of everything around him. Even flirting and being confident began to feel foreign, looking at Steve has become bittersweet. He smiles, but you see pain and hesitation behind it, only a few seconds before his face drops to that disturbed, hesitant expression.
While the message and focus on Steve in the first film is very well executed and meaningful, the representation of how war can break the happiest, nicest people is so prominent with Bucky and I cannot stop thinking about it and how it sets up his imminent tragedy so beautifully.
a sketch of Bucky this character owns my whole heart, fr
Thinking about how in CA:TFA, Bucky’s chilling cry when he fell from the train probably haunted Steve for God knows how long. How the shot deliberately cuts to the view below again even after Bucky is gone. Really just putting into perspective how badly Steve wanted all this to be some bad dream— looking down again in desperation.
In CA:WS, besides the fact that Steve has to fight his best friend who he thought was dead; he also had to hear that scream again multiple times. I’m sure the echo in the scene where he dislocated Bucky’s arm is mostly meant for dramatic effect but. I just know Steve experienced major PTSD just from hearing it.
And then at the end, literally a carbon copy of the train fall sequence happens, a similar cry after Bucky falls but this time he gets stuck under debris instead of plummeting from 240 meters into the cold surface of mountains. And the thing is, you can see a glimpse of happiness in Steve’s face after he hears the scream but SEES that Bucky is still alive and that he can reach him this time.
I just KNOW that those few minutes of Steve climbing down to reach him were absolutely horrific for him, because it was all too similar to the first time he lost Bucky.
