“I think they take card… But I haven’t made a request here.” Kathy kind of lied. She had never made a request on the Notos ship, but so it wasn’t a full lie. She did however know they took card. After all, an up to date system needed to be up to date in every way possible. She wanted to make sure she got requests and could be paid for them.

“I don’t know. If its only a rumor even employees may not know she’s a pirate queen. And wouldn’t the pirate queen, if she ran this place, go on defense seein’ a snoopin’ person lookin’ fer her? But if ya wanna give it a shot do it. I think you should save yer money though.” Kathy replied smiling at Pico’s wink. She thought her tactic was a bad one personally. It was straight forward, and if Kathy didn’t know better it would put any “Pirate Queen” on a defensive mood. Heck, if some random person was looking for her Kathy would take the request, rob them blind, and then leave them in the dirt.

Kathy would also feel a little bad about taking Pico’s money like that. Sure she was paying for a service, but one Kathy was practically dangling in her face and teasing her with. If it were anyone else, she might have told them to put in the money but for Pico… she didn’t feel right doing that.

“Hmm… Well they kinda know my face already. Ya know? I take requests once in a while. I don’t think I need ta roleplay, but I can definitely be yer introduction to the guild.” Kathy replied thinking a bit. She smiled slyly, a cocky grin appearing on her face.

“Of course..” Kathy started, placing a finger under Pico’s chin and gently tilting her face to look up at Kathy. Kathy leaned down playfully to tease her. “I can definitely play yer lover if ya really wanted ta just act somethin’ out. After all, maybe ya want ta see how yer girlfriend’s job goes right?”

Pico faltered at that, losing the wind in her sails and leaving her just standing there silently for a moment. The queen would go on defense, wouldn’t she? She might not even come out to confront Pico. The detective frowned, folding her arms over her chest. “That... is a very good point in all honesty. I thought I’d just take the forward approach but, maybe that’s not what needs to be done here.” She admitted softly, biting her bottom lip.

Pico shrugged, feeling a little more meek now. “I thought, maybe she’d consider me a challenger instead. That might be presumptuous, especially since people have seen me looking around already.” Finally, she gave a huff of disappointment, turning her attention fully to Kathy’s idea instead.

Pico went still under Kathy’s touch.

“Oh Kathrine...” She hummed softly, pulling away from Kathy and scratching behind her ear. “You shouldn’t tease me with such a good time if you won’t live up to it.” She chuckled, then shook her head clear.

“If your want to pretend that, then I think that might work! It’d explain me being with you, and why I was supposedly ‘snooping’. I was clearly just looking for my girlfriend! It’s a much better approach than my plan, i do believe! I am quite proud.”

Rumors Lead Me Back To You || Pico & Kathy

Oh? Kathy raised an eyebrow seeing the woman freeze. Was she…. embarrassed? Kathy had a thought, just a fleeting thought, that maybe… they both had some sort of crush on one another. Sure, they had spent time together and basically went out on a date with karaoke, but at the same time… Kathy didn’t think Pico would distance herself from her job enough. In some ways, Pico seemed married to her job. Maybe Kathy was wrong about that and maybe they shared some sort of crush… For her it meant she had to explore that a bit more.

“Ya bet I am.” Kathy replied as the woman spun on her heel.The way Pico began to question where they were though made her think that perhaps the determined detective wasn’t prepared enough to actively investigate. Or perhaps it was too new for her.

Either way, Kathy followed as Pico led her by her hand. It wasn’t that long a distance before they reached the guild shop. Kathy listened to the detective’s… at best faulty plan. In fact Kathy had prepared for scammers like Pico, by requiring payment up front for all quests and deeds people would hire others for.

“I’m pretty sure ya gotta pay upfront.” Kathy replied shaking her head. “If yer offering a million G, ya gotta offer it before someone takes the quest. So unless ya got that… I’m not sure how yer goin’ ta do it.”

Kathy then figured out an idea, something that would definitely make her have some fun.

“Hey Pico, I got an idea fer ya. So how about ya do a bit of roleplay? Ya know, kinda act like a new adventurer and be all bewildered and what not. Talk ta the receptionists and try ta see who the amazin’ person is. Ya know? All ‘Oh my Goddess, this place is awesome! I’d love ta thank the owner fer makin’ such a cool place!’ Maybe they might drop a hint! She had ta hire them ya know?”

Pico raised a brow at the woman, smirking in return at her obvious underestimation of her. She waggled a finger at the blonde, clicking her tongue. “Non, non, non, mon frere! You truly doubt my abilities? I have come prepared for a situation just as this!” She announced, pressing a hand to her chest with pride.

“I plan to supply a truly eye-catching reward of 100,000G! Irresistible, and available in my account at this very moment!” She spoke, flashing a bright, yet cocky smile in return. “The only issue might be if the money must be in bills and not taken through card, because then I might need to return after a visit to the ATM.” She went on further, smile faltering only a little.

She winked at Kathy. “I am a woman of my word after all. The reward would be true and delivered after I am satisfied.”

Pico did hesitate though, as Kathy made a very fun sounding second suggestion. Now as she was certain her initial plan would work... Kathy’s suggestion sounded fun. But only if...

Pico crossed her arms. “And who would you play in this roleplay? Any good detective has a worthwhile partner at their side to participate with their plans. And you, my dear Kathy, shall be my partner for this mission!” She declared happily, daring Kathy to object. (...Hoping she wouldn’t at least.)

❀ “Ehhhh!?” Lyla exclaimed by the sudden touch of another. Goddess, she wasn’t expecting to actually have someone grab her by her shoulders! Her tender heart skipped a beat, trying to ground herself as to what in the world was going on. I got lost in my thoughts again, didn’t I? Whoopsie. The pink haired woman took a quick glance at the puddle on the ground. “Oh dear…” She says softly under her breath. That would had been a problem if she did trip into that. Blinking rapidly, her eyes turn to observe the woman before her- she was filled with spunk and a lot of spirit. Reminded Lyla of an old friend from back home. Perhaps this Pico Piccio could be trusted–but whaa? A Mercenary? A-aren’t those people who are hired to attack others?? The woman herself was wondering if she just actually fell into the puddle and this whole scenario was being played out like a book.

Well…that wouldn’t be a bad thing actually. Perhaps she could possibly find her prince!~ ❀ Of course, of course- the harsh reality sets in with Lyla and she was polite enough to at the very least speak when spoken to. But she couldn’t help but giggle softly by Pico’s charismatic personality. “Heehee. Well pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Pico Piccio~ ❀ “ She hums a chirpy tune speaking her name, it sounded so much fun to say. Taking the hand, she shakes while using the other to hold up her dress slightly. “My names Lyla~” She releases the hand and does a curtsy. “Lyla Gainsborough of Leaf Valley. ❀ I just moved here recently a-actually.” “I’m quite fascinated about the island itself, it’s really busy here! Much different than what I was used to back home… . Are you from around here?”

Pico’s grin widened, intrigue flashing across her eyes. “Gainsborough, Gainsborough, Gaaaaiiinnnssborough...” She repeated, letting the name roll around in her head for a moment before nodding to herself. “Sounds English? Important too, would you happen to be from a prominent family, or do you just have the pleasure of having a very stately name, Miss Lyla Gainsborough?” She asked inquisitively, leaning forward.

Her eyes sharpened though, brow raised for a moment.

“Or have you stolen the identity of a well-to-do woman?” She mused suspiciously before breaking the expression with a giggle.

“I’m just joking! You look much too sweet for that, and the name Lyla suits you all too well.” Pico spun then, arms wide to motion to the city around her. “Yes! This city can get quite overwhelming! Personally, I’m also from a smaller town so it was a bit startling for me, but I adapted.” She explained proudly. It helped that she had such a big personality. “I’ve lived here for a few years now, down at Inner Apartments, so i know a lot about the ins and the outs of this island.”

“So how can i help you?”

Kathrine? The long name wasn’t… unwelcome but a bit of a surprise. It caught her off guard for a moment. This must’ve been that odd moment Danny talked about when Pico called him Daniel. Kathy thought it hilarious, and honestly still did.

But when Pico said Kathy was learning from the best, in other words Pico herself, she couldn’t help but smile. Such a cocky attitude.

“Is that so?” Kathy teased. She didn’t have much of a comeback this time, just honestly watching the woman do her thing felt filling to Kathy. She didn’t want to stop Pico from musing and talking, cause to her it felt nice and right at the moment.

But her smiled widened in an “ara?” kind of moment where Pico seemed to casually mention the fact that even a gorgeous Pirate Queen wouldn’t be able to outshine her, making her face flush slightly. Boy did Pico have a surprise coming to her one day.

“Maybe so. Ya know, maybe hot pirates are a bit over rated. I’m startin’ ta think determined detectives may be a bit more my thing.” Kathy teased just before the conversation changed to Pico’s business.

“Well the guild seems ta be the island and the island seems ta be the guild. Lotsa nice and fun date spots through the ships, but we’re on the Notos now in the guild center. There’s a guild shop here though, has all the quests and what not. The receptionists are nice too.” Kathy mused. She’d have to find some way to tell her employees to not recognize her. Then avoid Danny as he worked here too.

“They pay well too. So I’m just kinda tryin’ ya get cozied on in here, ya know? Get some more connections inside. Long game.”

“Well of cour--.” Pico began her typically confident retort before freezing and blinking in shock. “...Eh?”

She wasn’t expecting Kathy to say something like that! She was certain Kathy knew she harbored some form of crush on the woman; Kathy was incredibly observant and clever in every aspect so it seemed obvious she’d know. Unfortunately, this meant Kathy was free to flirt with her in ways that shut Pico’s mind down temporarily. Not that she hated it or anything...

“Ahhh... Well, then you’re in luck I suppose!” Pico recovered with a nervous giggle, spinning on her heel and continuing quickly to regain the situation. It’d been too long away from Kathy, she’d gotten flustered too easily.

Pico turned with a raised brow. “Notos?” She questioned softly, a gentle rocking reminding her that they were, in fact, on ships. Notos must be the name of this center ship! She nodded wisely, hand to her chin as Kathy finished.

“I see, I see...” She mused, then snapped her fingers, an idea bursting to her clever mind.

“I’ve got it! I shall exploit the system then!” She announced, reaching to take Kathy’s hand and moving to lead her into Guild Shop. “Okay, so here’s the plan! I write out a request declaring I want to meet the Pirate Queen, and of course set an irresistible reward! Then someone is bound to accept and lead me right to her!” It was fool-proof!

It long before Pico took in a deep breath and separated from her. It was sad, in a way. Kathy enjoyed that embrace and wanted it to last longer, but it wouldn’t last the entire time. Of course not, as Pico said, she was here investigating. She was a professional looking for answers. Yeah, she was still the persistent sneaky snoop Kathy respected.

“I get ya. Secret business and all. Huntin’ down mob bosses and bringin’ justice ta the world right?” Kathy replied, giving the woman a smile. It wasn’t time to dawdle in her thoughts, and seeing that Pico was already here Kathy was going to give her a grand tour! Maybe she’d help Pico open up an office here if she was into it. After all, a large mobile base with protection would be perfect for a Private Investigator.

But before she could even consider any of this Pico began to spout the rumors Kathy had heard. The “Pirate Queen” running the Guild. She wasn’t wrong, but from that Kathy had a brilliant idea. Kathy felt a sense of pride when Pico unknowingly complimented her work. Kathy knew she did a great job, but hearing it was only better.

“Yeah I heard about that rumor. Don’t know anything much about them persay though. I actually became a Guild Member here ta try and get the details as well.” Kathy replied, nodding along with the woman. There was Pico’s knowing grin. Whether she admitted it or not, Kathy was certain Pico knew she was a pirate, but only in theory of course.

“I mean, imagine me beatin’ the Pirate Queen. That’d be one hell of a fight. I’ve been wantin’ ta test my strengths against a girl like that. Bet ya she’s one hell of a looker too.” Kathy replied with a laugh. “But if ya got any ideas on how ta uncover her, I’ll help ya out.”

Pico smirked and winked at her friend at her suggestion towards her business. “A detective’s work it never done you know.” She chuckled, reaching to scratch at her wrist in a nervous tic. Her thoughts fluttered away though, when Kathy denied her suspicions, but admitted to following the rumors as well.

“Really? Excellently done, Kathrine, mon amie.” Pico snapped her fingers in a pose, winking at the blonde again in an almost anime-esque way. “Clearly you’ve learned from the best.” She stated, putting a hand to her chest.

She dropped her arm though, smile wavering. As much as a fight between Kathy and a theoretical ‘Pirate Queen’ where Kathy came out victorious, sounded spectacular... There was also the possibility of Kathy losing that Pico didn’t want to consider. Not that Pico considered Kathy weak in any way, but to earn the title of Pirate Queen... She must be a force to be reckoned with. She snapped her attention back to Kathy at that last remark though, and snorted.

“I hardly think it matters if she’s a looker. Not like anyone could outshine you anyways.” She stated matter-o-factually, waving the thought away dismissively. “And no, no precise plan yet, I was scoping out the place first and figured I’d find if this Guild had some sort of office or home-base. What have you learned from your infiltration so far?”

Rumors Lead Me Back To You || Pico & Kathy

Kathy felt Pico’s body go rigid, almost as if she was ready to fight. For Kathy, it was cute to see that she was getting ready, but a bit disappointing to see Pico guard let down so easily. She’d have to make sure Pico knew better next time. She was back in the big leagues now. To be fair, the pirate population had thinned in the archipelago though.

Though, would Pico be excited with an island chain without mystery or crime? Maybe it was best for Kathy if she didn’t tell Pico that there were only a few pirates left. Of course, making sure to keep out the fact that she herself was a pirate.

Then Pico whispered her name and brought her hands to her own. Her heart was mellow, happy that Pico obviously remembered her and could even tell her voice from all the rest after such a long time. Kathy let the woman woman her hands to the side and turn around. Her smile turned into a cute power pose and pout combo, getting a chuckle from her.

“Ya know, if ya did we wer….” Kathy didn’t really have time to respond properly as the purple haired detective immediately embraced her. Kathy had been hugged, and has hugged, many people many times. This embrace was much, much, more welcomed than most others.

It brought back a warm feeling Kathy decided to bury away years ago when she thought Aurelia died. It brought back that warm feeling of… just really enjoying someones company… enjoying just their presence a bit too much for someone in her profession. She wouldn’t deny that feeling, but in some ways it scared her as if it grew… she might lose her just like she had lost many others before.

“Yeah. I missed ya too.” Kathy embraced the woman, giving into the comfort that she provided that moment. She wanted to hug her a bit tighter but also didn’t want to make too much of a scene. She really did miss Pico, a lot more than she could properly express.

“Next time… at least say good bye… Okay?”

Pico felt warm all over as Kathy returned the embrace, feeling her heart pound painfully against her chest. She wouldn’t cry though. She wasn’t going to cry. She held this hope upon returning to the island, hell even when she was just CONSIDERING returning to the islands, she wondered it Kathy was still there. *She wondered if she would see Kathy again, if Kathy would want to see her again.

Pico sucked in a deep breath and pulled herself away, patting down her dress and recomposing herself in record time.

“Yeah, I’m... I’m sorry about that. I had to leave suddenly for the Mainland for something. I should have said bye first and then I didn’t call because I know you’re usually busy and... My business was secret.” Pico paused and looked away, shaking his head.

“It’s nothing, just forget it. I’m happy to see you is all!” She regained her smile and waved away her outburst of emotion.

“Oh! But maybe you can help me, and we can catch up! I’m here investigating rumors of this Guild being run by a ‘Pirate Queen’. While I haven’t seen anything outright wrong yet, I’m certain there are nefarious doings happening beneath the surface!” She announced exuberantly, fists clenched. She paused. “Though... I have to hand it to her, so far this structure and even the inner workings of the booths here work splendidly well. This Pirate Queen must be very admirable honestly.”

Pico turned to Kathy with a raised brow and suspecting grin. “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about these pirates, would you Kathy?”

Kathy’s daily routine was pretty normal. Most people saw Kathy as a savvy business woman who controlled a huge power in the archipelago, even if it is a newer power. It was an economic powerhouse to say in the least. But even Kathy couldn’t stop rumors about the “Pirate Queen” actually being the real boss. Not that is was incorrect information, but it was an unnecessary annoyance.

Kathy often tailed people who looked to be scoping out the place for a robbery from people trying to claim the “Queen” or “King” themselves. Over all, it was a lot of fun for her to do on the side of her actual work of managing the stock market…. especially in her benefit.

Pico had to stop in all honesty, admiring the structure from it’s apparent center. Did the owner put it together? If she had, she must be an excellent leader then! The detail and work put into designing the structure, let alone actually getting it together as well? Well, if she had a crew to held it’d be a little easier, but they’d still have her leadership to listen to.

It was something she could admire...

Pico went rigid in shock suddenly, having been too in her own head till that moment to notice a presence move to stand right behind her. Then there were hands over her eyes. Her heart stopped.

This was it. She was too noticeably nosy and she was being taken now. Her parents would never hear from her again.

She raised her hands to grab the hands, fight back, something! She wouldn’t go quietly, she would--

She recognized that voice.

“... Kathy?” She whispered, reaching up to move the hands over her eyes and turn around.

There she was. The strong blonde spitfire Pico had left so suddenly once before. Her heart throbbed, reminding her of her long-standing crush and letting her know that it did, in fact, still stand even now.

She started to smile, then put her fists to her hips instead and pouted.

“You scared me outta my skin! I was ready to fight, you can’t do that while I’m in the middle of an investigation!” Pico grumbled in defense, then almost immediately let her frown drop away in place of a tight hug for the blonde. She pressed her face against Kathy’s shirt, expression hidden.

“... I missed you.”

Pico was a detective, a good detective! At least she thought she was, it was her life’s passion and she wanted to believe she was good at it. She hadn’t exactly exposed any pirates yet, but she had a majority of good leads, and she was following one right now. That’s what had led her to this culmination of shops and ships that made this ‘island’, trying to seek out the owner.

She heard the owner has been called the ‘Pirate Queen’.

Pico accepted that challenge. She’d find and root out this so called Queen, and that was a promise to herself.

So at the moment she was wandering around, scoping out the area first, amazed at the intricacies of the ‘Guild’ and how it was held together.

... At the the Queen knew how to run this thing.

❀ Strolling down the streets heading to nowhere, anywhere- Lyla made her away in and out and about. It felt….strange. To be so far away from home, and if she could close her eyes ( wasn’t her eyes always closed and dreaming? ) she could still see it so clearly. Alas, Lyla was wandering amok to find something. Anything. Flowers don’t thrive too well in lonesome company, and the woman knew she had no choice but to make friends in order to survive. Or at least, find herself in company and simply just blend in with the crowd. Although, it would be nice to find a stranger to fall in love with- what a romantic idea! ❀

She blushed at the thought. Of course, she was still moving onward and forward from the loss of her last love- who happened to be a married man. How unfortunate. But have no fret, each person was an opportunity! And a new friend to make, at the very least.

Pico was quick on her feet and gripped the pink haired girls shoulders, pulling her back from the step she was about to take. “Whoops! Careful there, madame!” She warned, pointing out the pot-hole full of muddy water on the sidewalk.

“Your shoes are really pretty, and I’d hate to have seen them get muddy!” She added, releasing the woman's shoulders to instead put her hand out for a handshake. “Crisis averted! My name is Pico Piccio, private eye and mercenary for hire!” She announced, winking at the woman.

Pico noticed the girl on the street nearby, eyes drawn to her by her vibrant pink hair, then her lovely clothes. Pico was a sucker for pink hair.

“Haven’t seen you around before, what brings you to Leuda?”

Pico held a hand over her hand, slumped onto the floor with her back pressed against her front door.

She had just gotten home from her first voyage. The apartment was still dark, the things she brought home and intended to get looked at were littered all around her, and she just sat there, staring forward.

She’d relived her own death there.

Frey sighed in relief as she had thankfully called the right number. Quickly, that turned into a grin as she heard the other chatter on the phone. It seemed that she was excited! Maybe she was waiting for a long time to find a Watson?

“I do,” she replied firmly. Keeping up with dramatics were her one of her favorite things to do with friends, and Pico sounded like the type to do so. Oh this was going to be so much fun!

“I go out very often, and I have excellent hearing! Good enough to hear silent whispers in the streets. I’m sure I could hear a mystery from a mile away!” Frey exclaimed. Most of it was true. She didn’t know what a mystery sounded like, but talking to Vishnal helped her get into practice with flares and such.

Pico’s grin spread even wider than before as Frey went on, already envisioning events in which they could use her skills! Pico couldn’t hold back a happy laugh that drew from her throat like something between a shout and a trill.

“Hearing! Excellent, excellent! So you catch wind of whispers and gossip on Arcadia all the time, do you not? Well, if you’re really dedicated to being my partner, I’ll take you on Madame Ophelia!” Pico announced proudly, raising a finger up to the sky.

“Firstly, I must ask if you have any experience in self-defense, as it is imperative to this line of work! Secondly, I realize we might have to use code names when referring to each other, just in case we have to deter ne’er-do-wells. So what might you want your code-name to be, if at all? And if you have no ideas, I might have a suggestion.” She babbled excitedly. She couldn’t wait to meet this woman she was already so excited to work with.
