I'm sorry this is such a gross thing to start a discussion on, but my editor underlined me describing human urine as 'sickly sweet smelling' and said "piss doesn't smell like that." BUT IT DOES! not talking about my own personal piss, but when you're walking around downtown and you pass a piss alley?????? it's very distinctive.

and then I brought this up with my friends, and their answer was "all the alley pissers in Toronto must have diabetes." NO! this is the universal human piss smell!

is this like how some people can smell ants? I have a unique molecule in my nose that lets me experience the full spectrum of human piss?

zayn malik playing yugioh is actually so avant-garde. it's very "post-internet proto-idgaf" as my friend Chris put it. like.... he went and joined a yugioh tournament and joined as a shadow duellist, as in he joined with his identity hidden. he had a full-on mask, a voice modulator, an entire persona. he even had riddles that i think he wrote himself for people to guess who he is. the name of his persona is "Nocturne" and he looks like this

i never really got it when people made posts about light pollution and seeing all the stars for the first time and crying. i always assumed that everyone has gone on a road trip to a bortle 1.0 place and seen stars like that, and it's fantastic, but not like life changing. and then i went to europe last month and was in a mountaintop village of like 300 people and could see about 5 stars in the sky. like fewer than i can see from my home in a big metropolitan city.

When I moved to Europe I was like oh, I'll get to see the Northern Sky, what a novel experience. No you don't! There's no sky to see! It's for real crazy how good the skies are in like, Suburban Johannesburg.

What helped me write trauma better is remembering that the nervous system learns predictions. If danger used to come after quiet, calm can feel threatening. If kindness used to come with a price, kindness can feel suspicious. So healing is not just “they know they’re safe now.” Healing is the slow, annoying, deeply unfair process of teaching the body that the old prediction is not always the present truth.
