Well wonderful tumblr ate my associated text explaining why this article is so interesting. This article describes a letter from a former prisoner of a Prison Hulk from 1842, which not only reports about life on board but also about same-sex marriages. That there were homosexual acts, but also about a social construct that already existed with the pirates, namely the matelotage.

A structure similar to marriage, which at its core is only about caring for each other and is not accompanied by the physical act. Whereby the one does not exclude the other. That is a monster (respectful) If it was a lizard it would be a dragon.

They can be bigger than the biggest grizzly bears. They are about the size of a horse, just without the stilt legs. And their faces are hiding teeth like this (sorry it's kind of gross but it shows the teeth best)

Inspired by the ancient sea monster "Hippocampus", the front half of a horse-like unicorn in gilded silver emerges from the shell of a turban snail. It rears up wildly—supported by a branch—and is guided by a small figure of Neptune holding its reins.

Drinking vessels shaped like such mythical creatures were particularly fascinating at the time: they were often made from narwhal tusks—so-called unicorn horns—whose rarity and lustrous beauty made them highly prized luxury objects.
