Reasons for hope: Lots of amazing people did a ton of work to make this fantastic, fully interactive resource available - because no matter how bleak things seem, there are millions, and millions of people doing everything they can to protect both the world and their own communities.

You can use this to view and subscribe to updates, project statuses, and for at least some of them even whole dossiers. This is an amazing resource, I highly recommend checking it out

didnt know how to interpret "make it a lizard" so i wrote lizard and drew an arrow pointing to the horse so people know its a lizard. Also didn't know what bat horns were so I gave it a horned bat nose

The Rodeo Rule: you only have to do it for the first time once.

The Rohan Rule: if you are at a social function full of new people and you want to be liked, find someone doing important work like setup or food prep and offer to help.

The Tutorial Mode Rule: to navigate an unfamiliar situation where you fear you will mess up an interaction, preface the interaction by mentioning that you've never done this before, and let them know if you have a specific concern or question.

The Rocket Science Rule: most new things you want to try seem very complicated but are simple when taken step by step.

The [X] Will Remember That Rule: if you need to make small talk with the same person on a regular basis, try to save one fact or current event in their life from a given conversation and bring it up next time you talk.

The Cool Binder Rule: by wearing clothes and accessories that are to your taste instead of trying to blend in, people will be more likely to compliment you and show interest in you as a person.

A few more I've learned from experience:

The Play Rule: if you are at an outdoor gathering full of new people and you want to be liked, especially if those new people include kids or teens (maybe you're the new teacher or something), find a ball to throw or something else to play with them. Or, figure out what they're already playing, and then either jump in or ask to join.

The Moving Rule: help your friends move. They'll appreciate the help, you'll appreciate the opportunity to help them, and you'll probably even get some quality time with them and their family. And on the other end, let your friends help you move. Just make sure you feed them while / after you do it. (The same principle applies to other projects as well.)

The Genuine Rule: be yourself. Don't try to be anybody else. If you do what you like and you don't worry about what anyone else likes, people will automatically like you more. Much like the Cool Binder Rule.

important addition i forgot that not everyone might know. similar to how ao3 bookmarks work, you can also link to non-ao3 fanworks using this format. so, for instance, if theres some fanart on tumblr that inspired you to write the fic? you can link that fanart to your fic!
