from @evegwood's wonderful in-depth post about the contract in nosferatu, i would like to highlight the partial translation from a user in this reddit thread. if accurate, this translation confirms that the contract not only serves to break the marriage between ellen and thomas, but it is also explicitly a wedding contract between ellen and orlok, complete with considerations for dowry and exchange of property!
the same user goes onto suggest that the "sack of gold" orlok gives to thomas, supposedly as commission, may actually constitute the dowry mentioned in the contract, thus purchasing ellen from him. orlok comes to wisborg, then, to finalize the contract by obtaining ellen's pledge and to bind the marriage via consummation in the flesh (and then, presumably, to sweep away his new bride).
The exchange of golden coins for the locket probably comes from Ancient Dacian marriage traditions where āthe bride-groom purchased the bride from her parents for a symbolic price. The price varied according to the virtue and beauty of the bride; conversely, the men were purchased by the maidensā. Orlok gives Hutter gold, and gets the silver maidenās token.
Also, the contract being according to the laws of Solomon is a clear reference to the Solomonari codex of secrets.
