rey knew sand. jakku had been nothing but, and she’d thought she’d be used to heat and sun and sand for the rest of her life. then she’d seen how vast the galaxy truly was —how green, how lush — and sand had become an enemy. leaving the now comfortable walls of the falcon to step outside and back onto sand ( endless, all-encompassing ), rey thought she might strangle ben when she finally saw him. she practically stomped over towards the village she landed next to, in the hopes that she might finally luck out on her search. spotting a villager, she began trailing after them like a lost droid. “excuse me !” the villager didn’t stop their quick pace, and neither did she. “please, i need your help. have you seen someone — grumpy-looking, bit tall, like this.” she reached up and waved a hand. “probably brooding as we speak ?”
𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 that she’d seen him during the brief moment he’d let his guard down ? after months of closing himself off from the force, had he blown his cover in a moment of weakness ? it was too easy to believe that she hadn’t seen him ; rey was as strong and skilled in the force as he was — possibly even more. after little debate, ben settled on the idea of grabbing his belongings and hopping aboard his x-wing ( even if it was one scrape away from falling apart altogether ). although he was finally beginning to grow accustomed to his new idyllic life, it was in everyone’s best interest for him to stay on the run. rey was better off without his load of problems. everyone was.
holding what few possessions he cared for in his arms, he made his way across the desert and toward the village, where he planned on purchasing a few day’s worth of food — just enough to last until he found a new planet to inhabit. he tugged his way through the crowds of townspeople around him, but before he was able to reach one of the dining areas, he caught a glimpse of her. she was speaking to a droid — presumably about locating him — and though his instincts told him to RUN, run for his sad excuse of a ship, he couldn’t. his legs moved on their own accord toward her, as if he was drawn to her like a moth to a flame. “ you can’t be here, “
