Here's to the systems whose trauma is "weird."

Those who have unusual or highly specific triggers. Who weren't traumatized by abuse. Or who were traumatized by abuse, but not in the "beaten half to death" way people think. Who aren't sure if they're allowed to call what happened to them terms like assault, trauma, or abuse. Who gained trauma from the things that seem so little to everyone else, but were a big deal to them. Who had people who cared about them, but couldn't provide them with what they needed. Who watched their caretakers fall short. Who are triggered into rage, delusions, or otherwise "strange" reactions by triggers instead of breakdowns. Who have difficulty eating. Who hoard or are excessively minimalist. Who suffer from intrusive thoughts. Who remember the details of their trauma at the worst possible times. Who can't trust those around them even when those around them are kind. Who got trauma from the ignorance of those around or discrimination directed at them. Who don't know what they want to do in life because they didn't think they'd get this far.

Not having trauma that perfectly fits the conventional mold can make you feel alone. But you're not. There are people out there who have gone through similar things and understand. There are opportunities out there for you to recover and find a life where you're satisfied. Trauma is hard to face, especially when it's not what people expect, but you're not a bad person for having "weird" trauma.

Life was tough on you. Don't join its side and help beat yourself down.
