Miss Rue has built quite a name for herself in Ul'dah whether it be from her striking appearance, or that she inherited a large sum of wealth from a former Syndicate member. Formerly a courtesan among the wealthiest Ul'dahn elites, Rue now spends her days working at her fashion haus, overseeing her dye-making empire, or merely relaxing in one of her many estates. She loves to brag about her accomplishments, whether big or small.

Outgoing, empathetic, and well versed to listening to others, Rue is always happy to spark conversation about most anything.

I don't think there's ever been a funnier piece of lore in a video game then the etymology of the word "gun" in FFXIV

@wibbley-wobble So in XIV lore there was a queen named Gunhilder who ruled a country that was conquered by the big bad guy nation, galemald, and she had a royal guard called “gunhilder’s blades” who fought with swords that had triggers on them and were used for channeling magic, and these were called gunblades after the royal guard, When garlemald conquered bozja they copied the design of their swords but garleans can’t use magic so to adopt their fighting style they switched to a mechanical design that used black powder. Later on firearms were developed off of this concept and since they were “gunblades without the blade” people started calling them guns.

Seeing this going around again for the umpteenth time I’d like to reiterate that I know about the real world gunhilder and about allagan siege weapons. To me the funny part is that in eorzea, gunblades were invented before muskets

Given how many weird things in FFXIV are based on real world crazyness, I imagine the Gunhildr thing was intentional. The lore team are big nerds and do that all the time.

Except for cellphones being thousands of years old technology that nobody uses anymore. I think they did that one on their own.

I think it's because the lion furries are kinda the most normal thing going on here. Like, most of the time a character's race won't ever be mentioned by other characters unless it's relevant, and it's very rarely relevant. The mysterious hypercapitalist that actually isn't that evil and funds a lot of important stuff is a lawn gnome and everyone respects him, at least to his face. The Aztec king has three kids, of which two are different species from him (and each other) and the only one anybody says anything about is the trueborn because the king was supposedly sterile. All three kids have equal claim to the throne and no one ever questions that. There are multiple times that literal aliens from outer space come down and everybody is just like Oh hi, nice to meet you.

holy shit, so if you try to call your retainer at the exact moment someone is buying something off them in the market boards, it gives you an error message about how the retainer cannot be recalled during a transaction, followed by this spooky-ass message about how "Your retainer did not respond." and then it just drops you out of the menu entirely. it's like... a tiny little bit scary. girl you always answer. did you get got by some kind of beastie or perhaps a ghoul

In the timeline post about the Circle of Knowing I put a lot of emphasis on Thancred having Archon marks at 17 but in hindsight I maybe should have dwelled more on Y'shtola who not only was also an Archon at 17, but also after graduating from ten years of study in Matoya's cave, immediately left to become an active disciple of her mentor's bitterest rival, and I think that is an aspect of their relationship that perhaps doesn't get enough attention. Both the fact that Y'shtola Did That, and the fact that fifteen years later they are on speaking terms.

You've had this catgirl apprentice for like ten years that you didn't actually want but your culture considers it your responsibility as an Archon to mentor the Youths so you couldn't just kick her out, so instead you were a hardass on purpose hoping she'd quit. But it turns out she was as stubborn as you were strict and she stayed and completed her whole education in your cave and now she's an Archon at 17 and damn it, you're proud of her in spite of it all. Meanwhile the whole colony is planning an exodus back to the motherland. You don't give a shit. You like your cave. You hate the Forum. Put your thesis in the Forbidden section, will they? Fine, you'll seal it away from even them, and go live in a cave. And now that Leveilleur asshole with his prophecies and his doomsaying and his godsdamned seventh verse of Mezaya seven waning moons who gives a fuck is sniffing around your apprentice for some secret society he's forming. Hah! She would never. Except she comes back to the cave to pack up all her stuff and says, Farewell, Master. I'm joining the Circle of Knowing. Master Louisoix wants to send me to Vylbrand. And you're like what the fuck. What the absolute fuck. You're doing what. You're joining whomst. You're what. Farewell, she says, and she leaves and what are you going to do about it. You're not leaving your cave. Everyone packs up and leaves and the colony lies abandoned. You stay in your cave. The Forum says, well, so long as you're staying, can you keep an eye on the Antitower for us. You flip them off. Thanks, they say, and they leave. You don't see your apprentice again for fifteen years.

Fifteen years later, she walks in without knocking and says, It's been too long, Master Matoya. Is that fucking Louisoix's granddaughter you have in tow, you say. Grandson, she says. Whatever, you say. You manage to say something halfway nice about his grandfather.

I need access to your forbidden research, your apprentice says.

You look at her. All grown up and saving the world and not even holding a grudge about all those things you said when she left.

You sigh.

You say, Very well.

Just like that? she says. She's surprised.

I don't think Estinien ever worries about the WoL, not because he doesn't care, but because anything you do he just assumes you'll succeed, even if it shouldn't be possible. You brought Ishgard and dragons together, you and Alphinaud saved him from Nidhogg's eyes, and then you immediately freed two more countries, of course you're going to save this other world and bring the scions' souls home. He doesn't really understand it, but it sounds like you have it covered. The world is ending? Man it's a good thing we got you on our side. Fought a god of despair at the edge of the world? That's a Tuesday for you, right? The WoL is seemingly dying on the spaceship floor? Nah, watch this, they're gonna perk up in about ten minutes and give us each a high five. (Alisaie smacks him for saying this, but he's absolutely still right.)

Estinien may not be the smartest of the scions, but he is wise, and he may not fully understand what plot armor is, but he's definitely clocked that you got it.

FINAL FANTASY XIV: EVERCOLD

In the fan favorite expansion of critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, Shadowbringers, at one point you go to the DMV. Not a regular DMV either. It's a ghost DMV. It's the bittersweet memory of a long dead civilization's DMV crafted from the mind of the only surviving member of that civilization, who is apparently the kind of guy who takes great comfort in meticulously recreating the fucking DMV. And you have to wait in line, despite the fact that you and your companions are the only living beings there and everyone else is a ghost. At the ghost DMV. Because that's what you do at the DMV, obviously.

And the guy's dead wife is there. At the ghost DMV. The dead wife is a ghost and he's the ONLY ghost who knows he's a ghost. In the ghost DMV. You make friends with the guy's dead wife (while waiting in line) (at the ghost DMV) and he tells you that the lunatic immortal wizard who's making you defeat his seven evil bureaucratic processes while you die of magic cancer before you can even fight him directly is really just a silly sentimental fella.

Then in the next expansion you get to live through the dead wife flashbacks yourself. You get to meet the dead wife when he's alive in the past, outside of the DMV. And it turns out he works at the real DMV, in the past. And he has pink hair. And he and the past-self version of the insane immortal wizard (who sent you to the ghost DMV) pull off a sick prank to help you close the timeloop.

Later, you run into the dead wife's real ghost on the moon, which is actually a spaceship full of immortal bunnies.

Wanted an 'inn room' for S9 to take gposes in, but the apartment complex rooms were just...too sleek. I wanted something that looked more like it belonged to revolutionaries (since that IS who would have provided you a room) - not necessarily total grit and grime, but I imagine Oblivion would stick to low-rent places to use.

And so now I have a cyberpunk room in my basement 😂

(also I'm broke now, but hey finally something I could spend my gil on 🎉 i've been sitting at around 40mil for months with nothing to spend it on and now i have a reason to work towards making gil again)
