Min could feel his eyes on her as she slipped in the professor’s office door. “Charles?” She frowned as he turned to smile at her from behind his desk.
“Please come in. Tea? Coffee?”
“Do you have chamomile?” She asked, he pulled out a bag and poured her a cup and let it seep.
“Now...I had...a rather dark vision last night. About a young mutant. Logan was in here last night after it and seemed quite upset.” She waited quietly, he continued when he figured she wasn’t going to respond. “I know your work has you in a spot where if not preformed you would have to suffer. The ones you choose are chosen for a reason, are they not?”
“Yes.” Her grip on her chair tightened when she could sense where he was going with this.
“I understand that. However, those who saw the scene last night were a bit upset. Logan however, came in and swore it was you.” His eyes pierced into her head and she used every bit of her powers to keep him out. Her grip almost ripping holes in the chair.
“He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” She spoke tightly.
“He said he recognized the scent. A certain scent. Death.” He spoke softly as he poured them both tea.
“Anyone who has killed smells of death. It’s a marking that will stay with you.”
“So are you saying he was wrong? It wasn’t you?” He put her cup down and she eyed it.
“...No. I can’t...I don’t have a choice.” She said after a moment as Charles nodded. “If I did, I wouldn’t. I would be living a normal life in Korea. But I can’t. I have a duty.” She reached up and brushed the backside of her neck at the base where it meets the back. Letting her fingers slide over a small tattoo itched there hidden under her hair. “I can’t...”
“I understand. But because it was a mutant, he was very upset. He thinks you only hunt them.”
“I don’t hunt them!”
“I never said you did. I’m simply telling you what he thinks.” They were both silent for a moment, Min watched the steam roll off her tea before answering.
“He...he didn’t get his second chance.” She fumbled with her fingers. He watched her, waiting for her to continue. “I wasn’t there for the trail...but Death came to tell me the boy had done too much damage and still believed he was in the right to kill those people even on trial...I know you aim to save young people Charles....but he wasn’t...he was too far gone. If you had brought him to the school--”
“I know. He would have killed mutants here...We would have had to stop him either way...you did your job so he wouldn’t hurt anymore. Death is not the solution I would pick...but...you do it for a purpose. You seem to be very upset today because of this.”
“I truly want them to get a second chance...if they don’t...it’s...” She trailed off looking at the floor.
“I think--I think I’ll move Logan out of your class for now. So he’s not near you for a while. I think it’s best you do your class by yourself.”
“Are you sure? Wouldn’t it be better if I talked to him?”
“My dear, if he wants to talk about this, he would approach you. If he doesn’t, it’s not as urgent as he makes it. When Logan believes in something he will make sure you know.” Charles smiled. “I hope to see you tomorrow.” The door opened behind her and she looked and nodded, noting that, that was her cue to leave. She got up and bowed before walking out, closing the door behind her, taking a moment to breathe.
