Serious though he needs it. ( But he low-key doesn't deserve it )Ā Ā
At first Eridan will whine and complain about you being āovverbearingā and āsuffocatingā that a man like him isn't a living plush toy to be squeezed at whenever you want.Ā
But the moment you actually stop giving him this attention- is the moment he starts sulking. Heāll get it into his head that you're suddenly losing interest in him and will demand why you aren't ā Acting like your usual annoying self. āĀ
Heāll lash out but won't actually address the real reason why he's bothered. That being your lack of attention. Eridan needs constant reassurance and affection to know you won't leave him and to feed his already fragile ego. It's a lot easier to believe that your hot shit if someone's constantly showering you in affection.Ā
Actually he might even start relying on your touch as a crutch. A pick me up for dopamine whether he starts spiralling or just feels like he deserves it- Eridan won't do this on purpose mind you but be prepared for him to set sail to your hive after a particularly bad hunting trip.Ā
Imagine it. Rapid knocks echoing from your hives doors. It's almost sun out and the slime just started to sink into the soft cervices of your keratin. Your prepared to ignore the knocks until it the sound turns into banging- forcing you to answer the door and give whoever had the smart idea of disturbing you when you've JUST fallen asleep.
Instead of a desperate troll wanting to seek shelter from the soon to be rising sun- it shouldn't surprise you when Eridans at your doorstep. Dried fins drooping more than usual

As per usual you can expect Eridan to be him gracious self. Heāll push you aside and immediately begin ranting- not even waiting for your input before his cape is draped over your loungeplank. His voice growing more hoarse and warbly with each word that leaves his perpetually downward lips.Ā
And like you always do, you join him on the loungeplank, leaning against him. At first Eridan would snark, and even bat you away for getting slime on his cloths- might even get angrier and start spouting about how ā nobody respects what I do! Is it so much to ask for my cloths to remain clean each time I visit you! āĀ
But if you pull away heāll get ever angrier. Torn between pride and the need for the feel of your body against his. He won't even admit it in his mind but the feeling is there and he just needs it. Needs to ground himself in all these swirling thoughts that he doesn't even realize he's snarling at you toĀ

Sighā¦ look Eridan doesn't even know what he wants half the time. He gives off mixed signals on whether or not he minds you clinging onto to him. Your really going to have to judge for yourself if holding his hand will get his fins fluttering or if itāll cause him to snark at you.
Ofcourse his complaints will die down after a couple days of you doing this. At some point heāll even expect you to tacklehugs him or for you to subtly lean against him-Ā
Gets self conscious about his hands. Eridan knows being a sea dweller is something to be proud of and so any feature exclusive to the sea dwelling race should be displayed with dignity but the moment your hands are clasp between his and suddenly Eridans worrying if he remembered to apply lotion to his skin this morning or if his webbed hands start secreting slime from how his blood pusher starts picking up.
Granted this is all in the corner of his mind, consciously he's thinking about whatever he was doing before you pounced on him.Ā
Heāll even start picking out jewelry so it's less uncomfortable to feel the gold dig into your skin. Not out of the goodness of his heart but so you keep holding onto him, for just a little longer.
Same thing applies to outfits. Eridan will choose the more ācozyā and less extravagant dresses or outfits he has in his wardrobe if he's certain your going to be there. So you don't āmess up or damagedā the thing but deep down we both know he just wants to cuddle with you without complaint.Ā
Is generally fine ( if you ignore the comments he makes ) with you clinging onto any part of him except the hair. For some reason that's where he draws the line. His cape too for some reason, you can tussle his glasses, scarf, and turtleneck all you want but if you scratch or even DAMAGE the damn thing expect to be met with the cold shoulder for a the rest of the day
( Heāll forgive you tommorow, don't worry about it he has like seven copies of the same cape in his closet. )Ā
If your guy's aren't in a relationship be prepared for him to assume you two are in one. Especially if you two known eachother for a long time. Which is honestly a reasonable assumption considering troll culture
In troll culture am sure you already know that physical affection that isn't of the concuscipent kind is covered by the pale quadrant. After all in a society where violence is served more than breakfast- ofcourse touching would be considered a huge sign of trust between peopleā¦ and major amounts of touch could be considered a claim- or hell, a bold move onto your pale or flush quads depending on the context
Combine that with Eridans complex about filling his quadrants due to the hole where his sense of self is- ( I mean it's not a big hole, it's not his entire personality unlike another fucking ampora )Ā
Then yeah. At worst he assumes you two are already flushed or pale ( flushed if Feferi was in the picture when you started clinging to him, pale if Feferi broke up with him )Ā
At best Eridan will assume you're trying to flirt with him. Instead of y'knowā¦ just being generally affectionate ( which is once again, weird in troll society )Ā
Gets insanely jealous if he See's you clinging onto anyone else. Including your other quadrant mates + friends if you do have any. Will throw a huge fit in a ruse to get your attention back on him.Ā
He gets a sense of pride each time it works. If you don't fall for this trick however expect him to think you've abandoned him or hate him. Expect him to start like he doesn't care about you. Eridan is a terrible liar though so you both know he's going to troll you later on trollian acting like nothing's happend.
Look, I wont pretend the headcannons above display healthy behaviour but you cling onto him anyways.

Eridan's behavior would change if you two meet during SGRUB. At this point of time heāll get even more desperate. So heād try to reciprocate the best he could ( and utterly failing at it )Ā
Whenever heād talking to you heād place a hand over your shoulder while talking about how ā you knowwā¦ nobody really gets me like howw you do ā or any asine topic that he thinks you might be interested in ( which circle back to topics HIS interested in, and is merely just projecting his wants onto you. while still making it seem like it's something youād be interested in )Ā
If your interested in drawing heāll bring up old war portraits of famous generals dated to before the condesce kicked every adult off planet, if you like video games heāll bring up flarping before puffing up and bragging about his killsĀ
( Thinking itāll impress you even as his gut twist with each kill recounted. How the gun kicked back in his hands and the mix of viscera and blood dripping off him is enough to make him hide a shiver. Eridan's not bothered anymore but it's always something heāll remember after seeing Glub glub for the first time. The hunt after that seemed especially raw.)Ā
Don't worry, heās not Cronus- nor an incel but Eridan isn't very good at āflirting backā. He'd too forward yet too scared to be vulnerable in a way that actually connects with other trolls. When I say forward I justā¦ think about how Pitch flirted with Sollux. Itās too much- and not genuine at all. Heās like he's reciting a script instead of anything he actually hates about Sollux.Ā
But with you it's more clumsy, he stumbles on his vvās and wwās more than usual. His voice actually cracks when he tries complimenting you.Ā

Might try to flaunt your guy's āconnectionā and or ārelationship: statusā to Sollux and Feferi. Saying heās found someone who actually likes him and doesn't just put up with him- all while wrapping his arm around your waist. If you feel uncomfortable with this than Eridan will immediately stop. Groveling at your feet begging for your forgiveness in a spiral of self loathing about how he doesn't deserve you and- honestly the longer you don't comfort him the more his rant becomes less about the fact he did something to make him uncomfortable and more about how he doesn't deserve anything the universe gives him.
It's that or heāll call you sensitive and will downplay it. There is no in-between these two reactions.
Generally though everything from before SGRUB applies here if you've decided to stick with him throughout the sessionĀ
As always I got ahead of myself, and started going on tangents but wwhatevver.Ā To be honest this was mostly based off my friends, theyre so fucking clingy but I love them regardless.
