If you come across anyone who starts off with "Scientists don't want you to know..." you need to understand that they're lying. They're completely full of shit and working a grift.

Because they've never met or spoke with a scientist.

Scientists WANT YOU TO KNOW. Scientists want you to know SO MUCH. Scientists would be THRILLED to teach you EVERYTHING they know in EXPLICIT DETAIL. Scientists LOVE to share information and their findings and their theories. They don't want to hide anything, ever. They are SO HAPPY to share.

I think Star Wars stories with Rey going forward should really roll with the fact that she was-briefly-dead

Have Rey be a little off, have her know things she shouldn't but struggles to explain to others because it's not something you should be able to comprehend unless you've been to the afterlife of the Force, have her display an unnerving calmness about stuff, have Rey be able to so easily see through people and cut deep into them, have her feel more comfortable with the spirits of the departed than with the living, have her be an undeniable force of good, but one that is unsettling in it's knowledge and understanding of the universe

Somehow, for over a year, I've missed the news about the International Space Station (ISS) being decommissioned.

I have... mixed feelings about it.

I fully understand that it's old. Many of the station's parts were designed in the 90s, and we've had nearly three decades of technological development since it was first assembled. To oversimplify it, it's starting to become like an old car: it would be more expensive to update everything than it would be to build one from scratch.

Except we're not building a new one - we're adding another player to the field. NASA (and likely other space agencies) will be buying from commercial space companies (SpaceX, Boeing, etc.). In my honest opinion, this is a terrible idea. These companies don't care about the quality of their technology; they only want to make money. We all know that both SpaceX and Boeing have shown a lack of care in their products, overlooking and downplaying faults so they could keep on track. (Remember that time a Boeing-built vessel left two astronauts stranded for 10 MONTHS?) Imagine how catastrophic things could become if a similar issue affected an entire space station!

This shouldn't be happening. The people who own these companies don't care about scientific discovery or ensuring the future of humanity beyond Earth. They care only for accruing more wealth and preserving their own legacies. If we continue down this path, they WILL make it harder for those of us that lack their power to access space.

Imagine what we could accomplish if we built a second one without relying on companies like this. The amount of space agencies that could contribute has increased substantially, and good planning could vastly increase it's lifespan for decades. In a time of conflict and global tension, such a gesture of goodwill could be instrumental in bringing peace between nations.

I'll definitely be thinking about this for a while. Following the ISS - the comings and goings of its crew, the EVAs, the education that its eager crew has shared with us - has been a passion of mine for years. I'll continue to follow it to the end, and as it comes to Earth in 2031 I'll watch the most bittersweet meteor shower in human history with a sense of gratefulness for all it inspired in me and all that it represented.

jupp, still mentally stuck in this fandom hole. Wanted to try something more cartoony style wise and am rather happy with these lines. :D I never drew the whole crew before... certainly my first time drawing Franky and Jinbei and now I wonder why, because these two are a lot of fun to sketch!

Tips on how to fight the "if I overly explain, everything will be hunky doory" instinct?

Being genuine, as someone who does struggle with it from time to time. <- Like this!

No matter how good you explain, you are not immune to

person reading fast skipping words or sentences

person reading casually who is not interested in unpacking your statement to any degree of depth

person who decided what you meant three words in and is not internalizing anything beyond that point

person focusing on a part of the statement you literally never considered important and making that the sole focus of their analysis

person primed by an external conflict who is scanning your statement for dogwhistles that indicate whether you're on Their Side or the Enemy Side

When it comes to explaining, there's a baseline level of Good Enough you can strive for, to the point where someone who's paying attention, trying to understand your nuances, and not actively setting out to misinterpret you will most likely get most of what you're talking about. Beyond that, it doesn't matter how many words you use if they aren't being read or interpreted. All you can control is what you say. You cannot control how you're perceived or interpreted.

I have *never* found a setting more suited for a High School AU than Arcane.

Students:

- Vi, troubled punk rock girl who gets in fights, good at PE (and Math, sometimes) and very protective of her sister, totally a drummer in a garage punk band (called Fissure Rats, obviously), totally not gay for rich kid Caitlyn Kiramman

-Powder, slightly overcreative shop student and very enthusiastic about all her out-there interests

-Ekko, Powder's best friend who is both a skater boy and a future mechanic, as well as the Fissure Rats' lead vocalist

-Caitlyn, Principal's daughter, somehow on the student council but doesn't want to be there, was SUPER EXCITED when they read Sherlock Holmes books in English, totally not gay for bad girl Vi

-Jayce, A's in Science and Shop, also managed to land on the student council almost on accident, wants to make all the school activities are as inclusive as possible but not sure how yet

-Viktor, that one Science kid who manages to create a small ring of admirers who follow him for his braininess, low key crush on Jayce

-Mel, student council president, desperate to overachieve to prove her military school principal mom wrong about her choice to attend Piltover High

-Skye, Viktor's very quiet secret admirer, another good Science student
