I’m Val! I am an adult and overly nostalgic about my childhood (those were my happiest times!).

I used to ship Herbert and AA as bitterly divorced exes who never dated

but Penn Gwin and Gwinbert by association means EVERYTHING to me and they are now OTP I LOVE THEM SO MUCH AWHG

I like most Herbert ships! But I've always felt like Club Penguin canon lacked the best possible dynamic for a pairing with him.

Herbert is highly intelligent, but also selfish, arrogant, asocial, and rather cynical. From my perspective, the only way he could possibly be interested in someone would be if that person were not only his equal, but also someone capable of balancing out his greatest flaws with their own strengths, and vice-versa.

Sharing his smarts isn't enough. Judging from the way he reacts in the DS games, kindness doesn't have any effect on him either, other than disdain at the attempt. Someone who proves they’re his intellectual equal, constantly challenges him, and responds to his pretentious personality with a carefree attitude would easily capture his attention.

Although the two share similarities, Gwin has a deeply positive outlook on life, the future, and the achievement of her goals. It’s something that Herbert himself once had, but he discarded it all long ago, preferring to make penguins' lives miserable for his own benefit instead.

So, evil genius meets chaotic neutral genius. Sarcastic old woman defies cranky old man.

Polar bear disillusioned with his old unfulfilled dream finds hope again - through a creature with no identity that never loses faith.

That's what I've always wanted to see, and what makes this kind of relationship so appealing to me.
