“How do you react to someone messaging you at two in the morning?” Bailey sat down across from the professor. He knew his way around the college and ended up across from his good friend. “Cause not going to lie, I was a little freaked out but then I figured it was also too late at night for me to care.” He crossed his fingers and leaned against the desk. “How many dinosaurs were there, do you know?”

He raised an eyebrow, sipping on some brewed coffee made a few moments ago. “Someone messaging you in the middle of the night implies that they’ve lost sleep over you, or they were thinking of you. Either one, it implies romantic or platonic feelings for you.” 

Elias was a little confused how the next question correlated with the previous statements, but it was just how Bailey operated; placing logic in every step would definitely make his brain fizzle. “We’ve identified about seven hundred species, but there could be possibly more; a thousand to hundred of thousands. We’ll have to see as time goes on. Why do you ask?”

The idea of another person assessing her injury was odd unless she was at a clinic or the doctor’s office. At the same time, she was sure all she needed was a small break and a twenty to thirty minute lay-down on a bag of ice. And anyway, she wouldn’t go to a doctor for something like this. The doctors would tell her she was bruised, something she already knew, and she would end up paying most of her tips for this week. Uh, uh. Not happening. “Are you a nurse?” 

“No, but I actually do have some medical knowledge. My mother thought I would be great as a doctor, but I preferred becoming a professor. The funny thing is however, I’m still called a doctor because of my doctorate.” Elias snapped himself out of it, waving his hand. “I can assess it without touching it, if that makes you feel more safer. I don’t want to intrude. An older guy asking if he can look at your injuries is most likely the creepiest thing I could do.”

Sky doesn’t know what causes the fall, but she’s grateful that Mason doesn’t go down with her as she still holds onto his hand, grabbing onto Elias. “Yes, I’ll be good, thank you. You know how people say they’ve got two left feet when dancing? I’ve got two left feet when walking, not the medical condition of course, but I’m clumsy. When I was smaller, my uncle liked to joke that we moved from the two-story home to a one-story because I kept falling up and down the stairs.” Sky remarks with a forced laugh, the story was true, but her aunt and uncle hated the first place and they enjoyed putting the blame on her at any point possible.

Elias felt sorry for the young mother, helping her slowly steadying herself before looking at the little boy. “I never understood that saying -- the asymmetry I like to believe wouldn’t have any effect on walking or dancing. If you lost a toe however, that could change your balance entirely. Even your pinkie toe. Hopefully it’s not genetic, or your son might be stumbling with you.” He glanced at the boy; he was actually rather cute for kid standards. “I’m glad you’re okay, though.”

for someone who prided herself on being very put together and spent about 90% of her life in heels, aurelia was apparently a klutz when it came to simply walking in her docs. or at least she was when she looking at her phone, engrossed in some article as she made her way into the diner. immediately someone came to her side, and for once aurelia came to think of the phrase unwarranted attention. however, once she was up and got her head on straight she realized it was elias there, and eased a bit. “yeah, i’m fine.” she laughed,brushing herself off. “thank you though, apparently i’m not all here at the moment.”

Elias shrugged, exhaling in relief knowing that she wasn’t critically injured. “Well actually, the myth that we’re only using ten percent of our brains was debunked, we use our entire brain to relay information, but in your case, I believe it was just a mislip.” He adjusted his sweater, smoothing out the wrinkles. “I could blame it on technology, but technology actually helps us be more aware of our surroundings, albeit more worldly. Sorry, I’m rambling again, it’s uh, nice to meet you, despite what just happened.”

Sophie grabbed her stuff off the floor after her last class had ended for the day and began making her way across campus. She looked at her watch and knew that it was that time of day and she waltzed over to his side of things and made her way to his door. Knocking on his office she opened the door before he even had time to reply. “Hello professor, I was wondering if I could get A’s on all of my papers for the semester. i’m willing to do anything!” She batted her lashes and laughed before walking in, “How many times a day do you get that because i’m sure that it’s a ton in your situation. He sipped his coffee questioningly, before setting it down. “Well, the same group of boys are causing a distraction in my criminal justice class, I don’t think they’ll go far in my lectures. Philosophy was better, one student dropped out but I think it was for the better.” Elias sighed, quirking an eyebrow at the young lady. “Was there something you needed from me Ms. Sinclair? Usually students don’t visit me unless they want some more credit, time, etc.”

carmen’s features had softened with that admittance, unable to tear her gaze away from the professor’s face. for a second she felt as if the moment was plucked right out of some cheesy romantic comedy, but elias’ smile had reminded her that this was her reality. this moment was what she had longed ever since they made it official, a time that seems ages ago. 

she let out a soft laugh, not out of mockery but just pure nerves as she tried to rack her brain to find the right words to say. “elias, you have no idea how long i have been wanting you to say that. i feel exactly the same way, i love you too,” she assured, a smile replacing her previously nervous features.

With those words it was sealed, like everything felt real. He leaned over the table, kissing her gently as he still held her hand, Elias’ brain frying. Who cared if he couldn’t logically place this; his heart was guiding him now with Carmen. 

“You make me feel happy, and I love you.” He breathed out, smiling. He liked the way how the word was spoken -- love. How easy yet meaningful to say it. “Well, is there anything else you want to say before our food gets cold?”

Clementine leaned on him until she scooted into the other side of the booth he was in, waving a hand to her boss to let them know she was okay. “I’m sorry, I hope you don’t mind if I rest for just a moment.” Eventually, Clem would be able to get ice and rest completely but there was no way she was going to give up her shift. Rent was coming up and she needed as many hours as she could get. Since things had taken a turn in the town, people were going out less and less and her salary felt it immensely. “I slip all the time, I’ll be okay.” 

“I’m perfectly fine, I’m more worried about you. Don’t be sorry for taking a break for yourself.” He reseated himself at his booth, tapping his coffee as he talked to her. Back at the university, if he slipped and injured himself, he would probably be on paid leave or just use his sick days. The students could contact him online and he could send them videos for them study. Pushing someone while hurt was the cost of the work industries these days.

“At least let me see your injury. I can assess if you need to go to a doctor at least.” A sprained ankle could be the least of her worries. If worse, if she kept on working without getting medical attention, it would be horrible.

carmen just stared at elias with a look that was full of pure awe and admiration, a smile creeping upon her lips as he dove into the chemical aspects of the mechanics of her brain. she nodded slightly, her hazel eyes flickering down to their hands. the blonde gave the elder’s hand a slight squeeze, focused on how much larger his hands were than hers. 

it was something that she was always fascinated with, it almost felt as if their hands fit together like jigsaw pieces. her eyes flickered back to meet his, her smile never faltering. “can i ask you a question, elias?” she questioned, before rolling her eyes at herself, “not that, even though it’s a question. but uh, i was just wondering if you have ever been in love?”

His eyes met hers, and he could feel his breath hitch. “. . . I think I am in love right now, if that’s what you’re implying.” He replied softly, a small small on his face. The moment he uttered those words it was like the world froze around him, and the only that mattered was Carmen. And the gears in his mind started to turn, started to create a logical conclusion that seemed like truth.

“. . . Carmen, I know I’m not the brightest person, but uhm, I love you.” Of course he flubbed up the sentence, but his heart was pounding in his chest, and he couldn’t help it. Who cared if he couldn’t say it correctly? What mattered was that he said it. “Forget what I know. You. . . You’ve probably been the best thing that’s happened to me, and you’ve flipped my world upside down.”

On days when she wasn’t surrounded by eight year olds Josslyn found herself  here at the local animal shelter. Although she had Oakley had home she rescued him and knew that the pups here also needed love until they were adopted as well. Taking the few she usually took on a walk she was surprised when they snuck past her feet and took off down the street. Her heart raced with panic as she chased the three down the street accidentally bumping into someone in the process just as she scooped up two of the three. “I am so sorry about that. These little guys.. well they’re much faster than me as you could tell.” she chuckled trying to make light of it. “Tell ya what if you’re down to help me chase the last little rascal I’ll buy you a coffee? I mean free coffee and furry friends, what more could ya ask for” @peachesstart​

Elias always wanted a cat; compared to dogs, they were more calm and less needy, and who wouldn’t want a companion? But as he bumped into Josslyn, he smiled, raising an eyebrow. “I would be happy to help you, but I might not be much help.” He drawled, readjusting his clothes. “I can’t see how a puppy would be willingly be caught by me, but free coffee is free coffee.”

it did not even take five minutes for elias to start on one of his ramblings. though, carmen did not mind in the slightest. if she was being honest, she could listen to the elder ramble on about the pythagorean theorem for an hour. half of the time she does not understand a lick of what he is talking about, but she still manages to cling on to every word that comes out. “well, i guess i could say i like you a smidge as well,” she joked light-heartedly with a small laugh. 

as carmen sat there, watching elias spur into another topic, the stars. when it comes to the topic of them, it had always seemed that the other found ways to explain how their situation correlates with the stars. “you know, it’s kind of cute when you do that,” she admitted sheepishly with a grin, “can i be honest with you? i have not taken an astronomy class since i was fourteen, but i love hearing you talk about the stars. is that weird?”

Her voice made him snap out of his recent ramble, looking into her eyes as she spoke, a smile forming. “Well, uhm, I don’t know, maybe it’s your mind refiring those connections in your brain, it might be releasing chemicals in your brain, sort of like rewarding you from the information.”

Elias took her hand though, and held it gently as he shrugged. “It just might be though because I’m in a romantic relationship with you.” He loved how she talked, how beautiful she was, how she stared intently in every lecture he taught in philosophy; Carmen was just breathtaking. “So in conclusion, no, I don’t think it’s weird.”

Ouch. The girl could feel her eyes well up with tears. How did that even happen? What was the point of the restaurant’s policy on non-slip shoes if they didn’t work after someone spilled on the floor. And she thought she had just cleaned it up so on top of the disbelief of her ‘slip-up’ shoes, she hadn’t even cleaned the floor well enough. So much for the obnoxious yellow ‘Caution Wet Floor’ sign too. “Yeah,” Clem bleated, one hand leaning on the man for support and the other moving to her lower back. “I’m okay, thank you.” 

He could only sigh as he looked at her, feeling sorry for the poor girl as Elias allowed her to lean on him. “Kids these days,” he exhaled, “Don’t know why they always want to make a mess.” He set his book onto the table, a frown on his face. “Don’t exert yourself too much, as much as you have a job, I would rather prefer you to stay safe.”
