Wander Over Yonder - She is The Bad Girl
“No, ma’am. That will absolutely not be necessary. I have all I need now.
“… Thank you, though.”
It’s amazing how years under their rule could not change the anxiety and struggle it caused to say such simple words. Thank you. Ma’am. I’m sorry. Things that sent quakes in her spine and a twist in the gut she no longer bore. It’s hard to breathe, but she does her best to hide it. She’s kept this up for thousands of years. What’s one more night to add to it?
“I’m going back to my research. Call on me if you need me; until then, I thank you again for your cooperation. It’s merciful of you.”
“I can be merciful, I know. You’re welcome. I trust your new work will mean you will need perfect silence to work through. Hmm?”
There’s another prolonged pause, just to see what she’d do. Then, when they were done with their drink, an ominous tapping on their glass echoed through the speakers and emphasized their last remark to her before the intercom shut off entirely and her connection to her soldiers was silenced. For hours, she’d sit in silence, no connection to the outside world.
Then again, she’s used to that sort of thing, isn’t she?
“Have at it then, Captain. Enjoy your new discovery in the silence you need. I look forward to the proposal when you have everything ready.”
She’s quick to finish off the last snippets on Al’s reply before promptly cutting herself off, speeding up the timer set on her computer for just a moment until it shuts off. She’d been prolonging it unknowingly, the downside of having her eye connected directly to the systems. As long as she was connected, she could control her access. They knew that, which must have been why they spoke up.
“A recipe,” she quipped back, promptly shutting her screen and powering it down before any sort of bug or device could sneak into it. “A possible new cure. That’s all. I got carried away in my excitement… I shouldn’t have.”
A hesitant pause. Fingers wrung each other in anxiety, back spines purposefully pointed towards the one camera she knew they were watching through.
“I’m… sorry.”
There’s a shuffle over the speakers in her laboratory, as if a figure is adjusting in its chair. Not much else is said afterwards, just a heavy pause to emphasize whatever feelings Yim’ram might have. A good little ploy, waiting to play on the creature’s anxiety until a smile curled their lips in their palace and fingers coiled around the smooth drink in their hands.
“All is forgiven, my dear. Just let me know next time. If you need more time for a cure... I’m sure I can work something out for you.”
But they both knew what that meant.
“My, my. That’s quite the vicious typing you’re doing there, Dear. Have anything on your mind for me to see?”
im screaming so i was looking at my drafts on the Hub and my fuckin notes on this one post GOD
Adaptability is a force all it's own, but do you believe the poverty level can be helped with adaptability alone, that would be a questionable stance to say the least.
“Adaptability has its limits. It’s an unfortunate truth, one we must all face and bear the consequence of. That said, I remain firm on my stance that cures cannot be created overnight, and that the will of the former man must prevail above all else. Their will holds their freedom, it would seem, as will is the strongest force mankind holds, is it not? Willpower, as it were.
“First things first, however, we must secure this world and make absolute sure the rampant monster problem is held at bay. Those creatures must remain accountable for their actions against my people, and those that can be must be reformed and reborn as new civilians in a society that welcomes them- so long as they conform to human standards. Once that is under control, I can promise you there will be more forces secured to assist the poverty problem rampant across the world. Most specifically Nyra, as you and I both know that is where the people suffer the most.
“For now, Queen Aga’tha is doing magnificent for her people. I implore you to discuss with her what details it is you might be curious about for reform and progression. I myself, unfortunately, have many larger problems I must concern myself with at this time.”
.
If it were said that the majority of citizens want reform, what would your stance then be?
“We are an adaptable people. In a world like this, one must become flexible in some sort of way, mustn’t one?
“To say change wouldn’t happen is absurd, but to say change would happen overnight is just as much. Reform takes time, and time takes patience, effort, money, willingness. There will undoubtedly always be ones who will push harder than the rest, and those who will pull against the grain. To reform any system in its entirety would require much upheaval and stress...
“It would be considered, at least.”

I go to a women’s college. We have a walkway where bricks can be purchased by alumnae. Most just say names or class years/mascots. But this one. This one is special. It speaks to me.
