Published!
Think Equal invited @artofsuri and I to tell the fantastic and important story of Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala - the first Lankan to summit Everest. Copies are now available at Think Equal's Colombo office. It'll be headed to schools island wide this month and hopefully a few bookshops, too.
This Is A Box
That @artofsuri has been making neat stuff again: she held the Creating Heroines pop-up stall last month where visitors could drop in and create a heroine. The she made a zine as part of a collaborative art project with the British Council’s literature team! You can download the free zine here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13qPYRXlPvuIDKiNTkcBs5_lNOYQnzG1K/view
We’re in Pxp!
Still can’t quite believe our luck - @HassanOE who runs the fantastically informative Strip Panel Naked accepted Metta Helmet for publication in the newest edition of PanelxPanel! It’s a mere $2.50 and the comics criticism is very, very good. It really is the best comics crit magazine out there. If you work in or want to understand comics in more depth, you should pick up a copy here: https://gumroad.com/l/PXPNO7
Please to enjoy this haiga made from a packet of cigarettes. Text and collage material came from a single packet. @artofsuri refused to smoke the entire contents before making the collage because she is a spoilsport.
A new thing @artofsuri and I are playing with: choose a single sheet from a newspaper; make a visual haiku (haiga!) using only words and images from the page.
@artofsuri insists on calling these ‘Haicuts’, but this must not be tolerated.
Honourable Mention!
@artofsuri and I entered the annual Jane Reichhold Memorial Haiga Competition and did pretty well for two noobs.
The full issue is out now: https://prunejuice.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/pj-231.pdf
Kirkus Reviews on Elements: Fire!
Tough love from Kirkus reviews.
Elements won an Ignatz!
Elements: Fire, edited by @neekaneeks won the Ignatz Award for Outstanding Anthology! @artofsuri and I have a comic in it called Metta Helmet. Taneka was a wise and understanding editor and it’s a hell of a thrill to have been a part of this. Big hugs to our fellow contributors.
The Editor-in-Chief of @comicsbeat has a thorough rundown here:

Pencils are inks
@artofsuri is refining her process and this is what the new pencils look like. We’re quickly learning that when you work on something for years, as you improve in your craft, you sometimes have to go back and revisit the old work, rearrange the furniture or, you know, tear down the building and start again…
We may have to shift publication date, but we’re hoping it’ll be worth the wait. The pages are coming along nicely. More updates, soon : )
Isuri’s on a Top Ten list (again)
What a nice write-up from these folk:

The Girl Who Climbed The Tallest Mountain - nearly done!
@artofsuri has nearly finished the final artwork (a few tweaks of the cover left). We were commissioned by Think Equal to tell the story of Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala, the first and only Sri Lankan to summit Everest.
The book should be out in a few months but in the meantime, if you want to meet Jayanthi and her climbing partner Johann, they’ll be at this year’s Lanka Comiccon - pop in and say hi!
Emil Ferris's debut “My Favorite Thing Is Monsters” and Rep. John Lewis's “March: Book 3" garner multiple Ignatz nominations.
Elements has been nominated for 'Outstanding Anthology’! Big hugs to our fellow creators : )
Reviews!
These are gracious and heartfelt and I don’t know what we did to deserve readers like this but boy, are we grateful.
The Girl Who Climbed The Tallest Mountain
More from the picture book @artofsuri and I are making for Think Equal.
The book is about this amazing woman’s inspiring quest to be the first Sri Lankan to summit Everest.
The book will be provided free to Sri Lankan schools and be sold online by Sri Lankan publisher M.D. Gunasena later this year.
