i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: they should have told charlie everything! sure, he would have become a LOT more protective of and watchful over bella, but is that not exactly what everyone wanted for her—to not be able to be so reckless? not to mention that it would have been helpful to the cullens to have someone in the police force willing to clean up after the vampires lest the volturi get testy. plus it’s not like charlie would have anyone to tell! i mean really what’s he gonna do, rush over to billy’s house and be like “oh my god the cullens are vampires!!!!!” only for billy to be like “i know”
honestly charlie would have been such an asset to the team - aro’s pasty ass wouldn’t have been able to know shit by trying to spy on him or holding his hand
Somewhere in the back of his mind Charlie registers that he’s just dropped his half full can of beer. In the same part of his mind he notes Bella frantically grabbing paper towels and a look of concern across Edwin’s face.
At the forefront of Charlie’s mind there’s nothing but white noise. The scar on Bella’s wrist is seared white hot into his mind. He’d never paid it much attention before and he regrets that now.
He needs–he needs something. He needs to process. Charlie is halfway to Billy’s when he realizes he’s driving to have a conversation with Billy about his daughter’s vampire boyfriend. Should he kill him with a stake instead? That’s more proactive than having a conversation. He’s not human would it count as murder? Newton’s probably has stakes. Bella’s voice rings in Charlie’s head before he can turn into Newton’s parking lot, “but the stories are wrong, vampires can’t be killed by humans.” Oh, that’s right. An unexpected laugh bubbles out of Charlie. Then another, and another.
By the time Charlie arrives at Billy’s he is laughing so hard tears are streaming down his face. He sees Jake step outside and take in Charlie’s maniacal appearance. Charlie steps out of his car and Jake shouts, “You alright, Chief?” He’s shirtless. When is this kid ever not shirtless these days. It’s 50° out and he’s shirtless. “Why don’t you ever wear a shirt, son?” Charlie grumbles as he makes his way inside.
“Charlie! How’s–what’s wrong?” Billy is sitting in front of the TV. Bass fishing is on. Charlie stumbles over and collapses into the seat nearest Billy.
Charlie laughs bitterly. “Oh, nothing! I just found out my daughter’s boyfriend is a blood sucker! And I mean that in the most literal sense!” Charlie’s declaration is met with silence. It sinks in that he’s just announced something that could have him committed. Imagine that, Dr. Cullen asking him if he’s well because, “some people are claiming you think I’m a vampire?”
Charlie backtracks, “Shit–I don’t mean literally, I just mean–”
Billy roughly grabs Charlie’s shoulder and turns Charlie to face him. “He’s a vampire. Yea, I know. Jacob’s a werewolf.”
Charlie loses consciousness.
