Summary: You drink a little to much at your nephews wedding and Maekar looks after you. (Modern!Maekar x Wife!Reader)

He clutches your purse in one hand the other on your hips trying to guide you into the suite and stop you from sprinting down the hallway. Your nephew Valaar had married his girlfriend Kiera. The wedding was beautiful, you’d told Maekar as much through your tears after they had read their vows. You flourished in this environment. Chatting animatedly with distant relatives whose names Maekar couldn’t even remember, cutting up the dance floor without a care in the world, your smile never dropping. Quite the opposite of your husband which his family loved to point out still even after your years of marriage. He sat happily on the white cloth-coated wooden chair swirling his whiskey around his glass and watching you dance sweetly with Baelors youngest son Matarys. Your kids had been present for the ceremony and part of the reception but as the hour grew late and dance moves became more sluggish, Maekar accompanied them up to the hotel room with their nanny Layla, tucking the youngsters in and thanking Layla once more before returning to the party.

And seemingly in that brief time he was gone you had drunk half of the bar because the whole time he was watching you you had drunk only 2 strawberry daiquiris but when he came to escort you off the dance floor at 4am your words were slurred and steps stumbling.

“Maeeekkaaarrrrrr.” You whine out happily, hands immediately gripping onto the lapels of his suit jacket he still hadnt taken off. “Have you-“ Hiccup. “-Have you come to dance with me?” You start swaying your hips and Maekar has to fight a smile.

“No. Ive come to take you to bed, its late.” He says, stood ramrod straight in the middle of the dance floor.

“Ugh.” Your face falls into a frown. God youre so cute even when youre mad. “Youre such a spoil sport.”

“Mhm. Come on.” He uses his hands on your hips to steer you back to your table to collect your belongings and say your goodbyes to those who were still awake and eventually out of the hall. In elevator your kicked off your shoes and leant your entire body weight against your husband’s broad chest, hands wandering before his placed them back at your side.

“You cant-“ Hiccup. “Expect me to keep my hands to myself while youre in that suit. Im sure atleast three of our kids were conceived while you were wearing that.” You smile at the memory.

The elevator doors slide open and Maekar guides you out while grabbing your stuff from the floor. You make it to your room and flop onto the bed. The suite was large, more like a penthouse to be honest, and your bedroom was nestled between the kids rooms so he was doing his best to keep you quiet while he relieved Layla of her work. Just as he thanked her and told her to sleep well a loud drunken chant of Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis pierced the quiet.

He shut your bedroom door and walked over to you. “Shhhh. The kids are sleeping.”

“Rhae loves that song.” You slur as Maekar fiddles with your zipper before finally pulling it down.

“She does.”

“I love her. I love you, y’know that?”

He pulls the fabric down over your legs carefully leaving you in just your underwear. “I do.”

He sits you up so he can start removing your makeup, grabbing the wipes from your suitcase and pulling a few out. “‘nd you love me?”

He wipes at your face carefully trying to get all the glitter off your eyes, humming to himself before responding. “More than anything.” Your smile crinkles your eyes and makes it hard to wipe the mascara away. Once hed got it all he laid you down in bed and pulled the covers up to your chin. “Sleep.” He kissed your forehead tenderly and headed to the door.

“Are you not joining me?” Your voice carried a genuine sadness.

“I will, I just need to get you some water and painkillers.”

“Mmkay. Youre so good t’me. Love you.” You murmured clearly half asleep already. And once he came back you were. Curled into the sheets and snoring softly. He carefully took his own suit off and slipped into bed. You cuddled into him unconsciously, blissfully unaware of the hangover that would hit you in the morning.

Parties werent your scene. You wouldnt say you hated them, but if there was a choice between that and an evening spent cozy in bed with a book? Youre picking the book. The chaos unsettled you. But tonight you feel restless. The bed in your tent doesnt feel as soft as usual and you cant get comfortable causing you to toss and turn and therefore keep losing your place on your page. You huff. You miss your husband, Lyonel. Your mind drifts to him most definitely still in the Baratheon tent drinking copious amounts of wine and commanding the dancefloor in the middle.

Defeated, you close your book with a loud snap and grab your gown from earlier that you had discarded lazily on the floor, slipping it on and trying to make yourself look presentable. The guard outside nods at you as you slip through the tents entrance and head towards the lively bustle of the large yellow tent at the other end of the camp. You pick at your nails nervously. What if Lyonel doesnt wish to see you? What if you ruin his fun? Despite the racing thoughts your feet never falter eventually leading you to duck beneath the yellow cloth into the dim light of the party.

You dodge dancing bodies left and right, peering over shoulders in hopes of spotting a familiar pair of antlers. Little do you know your husband is just out of your field of view finishing his glass of wine and staring you down like a predator does its prey.

You squeal when a hand lands on your shoulder and spins you round, only relaxing when your eyes land on the persons face. "Lyonel."

"To what do I owe the pleasure? Have I had too much wine, or is my sweet wife truly in my tent?" His voice is as jovial as ever, grinning widely as he speaks, his eyes raking over your form hungrily.

"I felt restless," You half shout having to battle with the noise of the party. "I thought I would come and… see."

"Mmmh, you honour me, wife. Never did I think id get to see your pretty face in this light." His words are slurred with wine but nonetheless sincere. "Come," He grabs your hand. "Dance with me."

Your eyes widen slightly. "I do not know how to I-"

"You may forget, my love, that I have seen you dance before. Mayhaps only once but I have seen it, and I know you can move those hips." He winks before lifting your hand and spinning you. You try to relax and let the music flow through you and follow whatever Lyonel is doing. He makes it look so natural like he doesnt have a care in the world- which you know to be the truth -spinning and stepping like he came out the womb doing so.

He watches you hungrily, eyeing your every move and cheering you on. He whisks a glass of wine from a plate of a servant and brings it to your lips encouraging you to drink. "Here, it will make it easier, clear those worrisome thoughts from your mind."

You drink it all, wiping your mouth as he throws the cup carelessly over his shoulder and smiling and giggling up at him. He cups your face and kisses you far too passionately for the amount of people around you but a series of cheers reassures you that they dont seem to mind. Perhaps parties weren't so bad after all.

He rises from his chair and stands right infront of you, eyes never leaving the bunch of flowers. He takes them from you, placing them gently on his desk, fingers running over the silky ribbon that holds it together.

He takes in your appearance for a moment before wrapping his strong arms around you and squeezing. You reciprocate of course, youd never turn down a hug from him- especially one he initiated. Anyone else would fear he was trying to wrap around them like a boa constrictor, but you dont. He hugs you impossibly closer but still holding back some of his strength as to not hurt you. Its hard but he does it. He cant express his love well through words so a slightly stiff bone crushing hug is the best way for him to.

“You are very sweet, wife.” He whispers softly into your hair. A quiet sentence that holds more love in it then anyone else could understand.
