Traversing the forests alone could bring peace alongside potential risks ; while he knew better than to let his guard down, there comes with it a molecule of guilt at his easiness to start. It had been a while since she had seen anyone bow before, and much less to her and so low. It felt weird, especially by someone she had startled enough to draw a blade from. At least he seemed to understand. "Nah, not too scary. I've seen much scarier things than a stranger with a sword." Well, that was a bit of a lie, but it just so happened most scary things she saw were exactly that, strangers with swords. Well, maybe Abyss Mages counted as scarier, and she's seen a good few she's had to skirt around.
"Oh, you don't gotta, unless you're also looking for sunsettias?" Amanda wasn't to keep on accepting help from a stranger, especially when she needed the Mora from the commission. There was no way she'd accept help on it without splitting the payment, it was only fair, but she didn't exactly know if she could afford to share at the moment. "Are you also in the guild? You don't have the uniform, but not like I do either."

"Oh-!" Had she been that quiet? Amanda's steps were often much quieter than she realized, something that was both blessing and curse. Good for swiping the mora of people too rich for their own good, bad when innocent people like this stranger in the forest end up spooked by her sudden appearance. "No trouble, promise." She holds her hands up, showing nothing was held in them, "My bad. I'm just foraging around here on a commission."
Actually, I think girls in middle school and high school should still feel comfortable having fuzzy pillows and lava lamps and glitter pens and sequin tops and a colorful wardrobe and whatever else they think is pretty or cool. Maybe we shouldn’t, like, try to beat the personality and life out of the youngsters, neither should we expect them to act like anything other than their actual age.
People wonder why kids are so obsessed with video games when I see grown adults telling *elementary schoolers* that they’re too old to play with dolls or play food or train sets, or that they’re being “ridiculous” for pretending to be animals or Frozen characters. STOP GIVING THEM MONEY! stop trying to make crab day or whatever else happen. paying for stuff from the shop is rewarding them for ignoring the userbase continuously and doing things the majority don't want, even if the things they're doing and allowing can cause actual deaths. staff shouldn't be praised and get profit for ignoring their users in exchange for trying to turn tumblr into twitter 2 ft. tiktok. at this point i don't even care for "staff are people 🥺 be nice" arguments, because even when people are being very polite in feedback, they're perfectly fine ignoring it in exchange for implementing changes nobody wants or asked for, all because new users may like it more (and forget anyone who's used the site for years, apparently).
leave bad reviews. don't buy things from the shop. send feedback, even if they never reply. email them and @ the staff, send asks to the wip blog. don't just blindly buy into "we need to support the site, buy xyz shop product", they don't deserve more money for giving a worse product.

There's little coordination to it besides color, the dirty leggings and boots clashing with the top meant to be more refined, and the sash tying it together just a simple knot in the back. She dressed more for practicality and recognition than for style. "Oh, and I like those kind of orb looking ones, they just look fun to use and have around. Like, I could use it as a ball as well as a catalyst, and throw it if someone is too far away." She seems proud of the idea, a small grin as she imagined chucking a solid rock ball at her next attacker. If nothing else, the young hero was creative.

he listens along without any other notable commentary, merely humming and nodding when appropriate. the thought of using the weapon to bludgeon her foes elicits a furrowed brow and faint frown — yet ren chooses to hold his tongue. it's a matter of personal preference; if that's what she wants, then it's up to him to find a way to accommodate that in the final design.
chewing on the end of his pen, the wanderer shoots the empty page a lingering stare. ( trying to ORGANIZE his thoughts. ) then, he begins to sketch. colors can always come later — it wouldn't be difficult to conjure up a palette that mixes cryo blues with the darker hues of her attire. a sphere of polished gemstone for the focal point, perhaps. he surrounds it with interlocking shards — rough at the edges in a way that intentionally resembles CRACKED ICE. ideally they would be able to rotate around the core, like the debris suspended helplessly in a celestial body's gravitational pull. shifting accordingly to protect the inner workings of the catalyst, cushioning against the point of impact — on the off chance she does decide to use it to bludgeon someone. he thinks the design could probably use some polishing, but it's certainly a start. particularly when taking into account such an unconventional request.

As Ren works, in lieu of having anything else to do, Amanda slowly comes up behind him, watching him sketch from over his shoulder. He was good, really good, as he was most things. She figures immortals, which she has to imagine he is, must be good at a lot of things. Has she ever even asked if he is immortal? As she watches, she idly goes through her list of beings he could be, crossing out ones he couldn't be. An Adepti was her first guess, but with how much he liked Sumeru and how he never talked about the late Geo Archon, that had been ruled out pretty quickly. It would be easy to just ask him, sure, but she kinda liked the mystery that surrounded her teacher, it made him even cooler.
Besides, she doubted she'd get a straight answer. It always seemed like a bit rude, like it may be a sensitive subject. Ren wasn't exactly the most level headed person, after all. No one who had killed multiple times was.
Finally, her speculating came to an end when the final rough draft was shown to her. Her eyes widened once more, like she was forever in awe at him, "Wow, that looks sick! Haha, I almost feel bad for anyone who'd try and steal from me if I had that with me, it'd be able to knock someone out cold if I threw it!" No pun was intended, of course. "How much would you need? I could help you gather the materials, least I could do if you don't need Mora."

oh? she certainly seems INTERESTED now — that's good. part of him had been worried the kid would insist on being stubborn. ( like someone else he knew who refused to upgrade to something more befitting of their skill ... ) faint smile pulls at the corners of the wanderer's mouth; perhaps her enthusiasm is a bit contagious, or perhaps it's simply the prospect of getting to pour his all into a new PROJECT. it's been so long since he last had the opportunity to craft a weapon synonymous with art itself. the balladeer's catalyst didn't function in a conventional way — and in many regards, calling it a catalyst at all was a bit of a stretch. he always held a grudge that he wasn't given the chance to make it himself, even with all of the fatui's resources at his disposal. ( good riddance; he's not shedding any tears over losing the thing. ) the weapon he wields these days, while something ren looks upon with a considerably more favorable opinion, was still a gift nonetheless.
besides — it would reflect badly on him to have his student waving around a piece of JUNK. talk about embarrassing.

❝ a treasure hoarder wouldn't know iron from silver. they would only see it's been POLISHED and let their greed supersede common sense. ❞ he waves a hand, mockery in every syllable. it isn't directed at amanda — but rather, the wastes of BREATH that exemplify why he views most mortals as something equivalent to ants milling about their LOATHSOME little colonies. ❝ they saw something that looked impressive enough to be valuable and took it. ❞ eyes close; the wanderer exhales a faint sigh. he's not normally one to watch his tongue, but he can tell by the way the kid is acting, she's more than likely going to take every CRITIQUE of the book PERSONALLY. he would admire the respect she shows her weapon if it wasn't a piece of junk — at least by his standards. although, ren supposes anything would be an upgrade compared to what she was wielding before ...
❝ don't worry about the mora. ❞ eyes open; he crosses his arms — then thoughtfully raises a hand to his chin. ❝ you don't need to spend a small FORTUNE to get a good catalyst. ❞ not when one happens to know someone with experience in forging weapons. surely finding the right materials wouldn't be too TEDIOUS; the wanderer spends enough time traveling, he could simply collect them as he goes. ❝ don't misunderstand, ❞ ren continues aloud, ❝ i'm not going to patronize you by dropping a fancy new catalyst in your lap. but if you put in the work to get STRONGER ... ❞ a shrug, ❝ who knows? your efforts might be rewarded. ❞
it seems like a fair enough trade, he thinks. rewarding strength with a WEAPON to match — not a gift, but a sign of some considerable accomplishment. he's always found it more interesting to deal in currencies other than simple MORA.
"Oh." There's disappointment in her voice, even if muted. Truly, she had liked her new weapon, even if she had absorbed its rather boring story within a few nights. It did the job well, better than her old one, and it felt like she wasn't as restricted with it as she previously was. Was it possible to 'outgrow' a catalyst or weapon? She was still new to all this elemental powers business, perhaps guiding her to her less than standard style of fighting. Amanda learned how to use her catalyst the same way she learned how to use her fists, but just doing it and seeing what worked. If that led to her either in a pile of snow or with a sprain respectively, then that was how she learned.
Ren's insistence on not needing Mora gives her pause, brows furrowing in confusion. Surely she would, she'd already talked to blacksmiths and learned just how pricey and material costly weapons could be. Maybe at some point she'd be able to save enough, but Mandy has already given up much desire to have one of the fancy ones they could make.
Then, he continues on. And finally, she remembers. A talk during one of their nights camped together. One that had surprisingly been more on Ren's side, and one that had put her to sleep due to how relaxing his voice was, and how little she understood of what he was saying. What she did remember before slipping into sleep, however, was talk of weapons and forging. The weapon disappears in her excitement, a grin forming, "Really? I mean, not like I didn't plan on getting stronger anyway, but- you mean it? What kind could you make me?"
