i actually watched the lecture and while i don't agree with all of amin's core positions (he's a gender abolitionist and i'm not, so i would expect that) when he talks about crossdressers he clearly does so in a context of a case study of historical self-identified "heterosexual transvestites." to roughly oversimplify, the talk as a whole is about the theory of identity construction as a function of class and racialization and how economic opportunity = leisure time = space to create Identity as separate from Action. basically, that white trans women, especially those attracted to women, historically delayed transition because they had more to lose than black and latina women, and the barrier between the lived experience and internal sense of self created certain identity-forward ways of thinking about gender

whether or not you agree with his conclusions about identity construction is up to you, but you have to actually back that up with an argument about theory instead of just making shit up to poison the well. (considering he's a brown man talking about the disparities in trans experience created by white privilege, this reeks of coming up with any reason you can to smear an uppity academic of color l o l)

Hey remember when everyone was panicking about everyone taking estrogen HRT being put on a registry and that same law making it illegal to import estrogen from overseas and a felony to DIY? Remember when everyone was rightfully horrified about how inaccessible this would make transitioning to transfem people?

Trans men on testosterone HRT are on a registry because testosterone is a controlled substance. It is illegal to import testosterone from overseas and it is a felony to DIY with it. Still, the same people who were panicking over this law for transfems will belittle and bully transgender men who do not DIY or are rightfully afraid of it.

Hey so you know how people always talk about transmasc erasure? Coming across that paper on Tumblr discourse on transandrophobia reminded me of something.

When I was doing my criminology degree, I went to several professors with several thesis ideas, and all of them were denied. These were all ideas based on transmasculine crime and victimology stats. Every professor shot down every thesis I had on ideas related to transmasc victims of various crimes.

Their reasoning? There's no need for this. This is useless. Nobody is interested in reading about trans men and transmascs being victims of crimes. They wouldn't even let me do my thesis on estimating more accurate stats on transmasculine victims of homicide. Which is an INCREDIBLY important thing!

So yeah. Next time someone talks about how trans men and transmascs aren't victims as much, remember this. Researchers don't want to research this. They won't allow people who want to do so, to do so. I couldn't get anyone to advise me on these papers.

hey so what do you actually think transmedicalism is? because your post about it really suggests you don't know. i'm not trying to be harsh in any way, i just want to be informative and help you understand :-)

Transmeds think that dysphoria is required to be trans. That's the one "universal" piece to their opinion and countless of them will say that it's all it means and nothing more, yet go out of their way to shit talk people who are nonbinary, GNC, genderfluid, etc for "coopting transness"! I've watched people in my own circles who were hiding being a transmed until they made their reddit known shit on the idea of transmasc people enjoying traditionally assumed feminine things or having different levels of dysphoria or transition goals and call them trenders even if they're actively on HRT and medically transitioning because the concept of being alt or a theatre kid or liking eyeliner and crop tops is so foreign to them that the idea that a form of transmasculine person who ENJOYS that is somehow a personal attack. And like I've said I had a teacher who literally told me that by liking cosplay I wasn't really a man because "no real trans guy would feel comfortable in a skirt for any reason". But fuck me for noticing a pattern where the majority of transmeds tout the DSM definition of dysphoria while casually inserting things that aren't even there like "wears makeup" or "doesn't bind" or "has the nerve to be a GROWN ADULT???? Having SEX???? IN A WAY I WOULDNT PERSONALLY?????"

And I've had the better part of 8 years to watch countless self-identified transmeds become right wing grifters and peddle (inter)sexist pseudoscience about "male and female brains", acting uselessly like appealing to the idea of transness being a mental illness or physiological difference will save us from the administration that is actively trying to reverse ADA protections. So nah, I'm not pretending there's anything "progressive" about transmeds either.

Transmeds at best are the stupidest crabs in the bucket, and at worst are knowing and willful contributors to pushing back every ounce of progress made for queer people for the sake of trying to convince fascists to let them be their token tranny.

For every 1 "respectful transmed who just disagrees on specifics of lingo/normalization" there's thousands of outright fucking bullies who waste their lives shitting on every flavor of trans that isnt exactly like them and you should be embarrassed to associate yourself with them.

Also for brevity - me bringing up my medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria is not out of agreeing on its necessity or to put myself above any other trans person who isn't in that position, but to prove the point that what shithead losers think gender dysphoria is and try to police it by is in direct conflict to how professionals document and diagnose it. Because according to the transmeds who "only think dysphoria is the deciding factor", me being alt or enjoying some feminine things or wearing costumes or not confidently wanting bottom surgery or putting accepting my intersexuality over validating my transness makes me a trender, a co-opter, a "delusional cis girl". My behavior somehow proves I don't have dysphoria, never did, and will be a detrans statistic ruining their "progressive" movement.

But if you ask the care team literally prescribing my HRT and watching me climb my way into actually giving a fuck about my life for the first time in 26 years, none of that is what decides gender dysphoria, and the fact I am dysphoric was painfully self evident well before the dx. The amount of repression I had from years of being told I could never be a real man was self evident. And the transmed communities destroying the ability for people THEY SUPPOSEDLY THINK BY DEFINITION ARE TRANS to have any confidence in pursuing anything that isn't detransitioning and killing ourselves, to me, is the most self evident thing of all.

So no, I don't believe in "you just need dysphoria to be trans", because at least 60% of y'all don't even fucking believe it and you're the ones fucking saying it.

I was sexually harassed after I explained to my harasser over and over again that I'm a trans man and explaining in detail what it was. I told him I was born with a vagina but was actually a boy. So he grabbed my crotch to see if I was lying

He decided to just check for himself whether I'm afab

So no actually telling someone your a trans man does not protect you, it does the opposite.
