the only gay man never mentions he's attracted to men unless you romanced him in the previous game (where his entire arc is about his sexuality) and even then he just calls the inquisitor a close friend despite them presumably being in a relationship for a decade. half the major factions force you to witness an f/m relationships play out and see them flirting while there are literally no major f/f or m/m npc canon romances that you're Forxednto witness. the only m/m companion relationship gets the least exposure and the f/m relationship clearly has the most time and effort put into it. just saying.

Despite the fact that 1/4 of the world’s population is Muslim, Muslims make up only 1.6% of speaking roles in western film and media - and 92.7% of those Muslim characters were either victims of violence or perpetrators of violence.

It shouldn’t be a question as to why Islamophobia and violent hate crimes are so prevalent in our society when more than 90% of our portrayals in media are violent, linked to terrorism, or in need of a white savior.

The statistics are disgusting.

Riz Ahmed has pointed out before that we all have a responsibility to portray Muslims in our media, even in fandom. He’s mentioned that storytellers, not just the corporate ones, but us in fandom spaces, can help combat racism and islamophobia by making a commitment to diversifying our content and portraying marginalized communities in a positive light!!

YOU can help!

I’m so excited for his initiative, and I hope it helps on the corporate end of things - but in the meantime, we as a fandom need to take steps to do the same instead of waiting around for a bunch of old white men to decide real Muslim stories are worth telling.

i feel like those posts thatre like “REAL gay people don’t talk about yaoi discourse they go to gay clubs and do ket” are crazy like i understand they’re critiquing a hyper specific genre of online queer but babe they can do both… i know people who are ravers and are always on shrooms and read mcr rpf like i feel like we draw a big line between the online queer community and the in person one but that girls at gay bars have tumblr accounts it’s really not that seperate
