It's a mixture of sawdust, greasepaint, and mark fingers. Looks a bit like Lost-Boys-in-Hook brand 'Imagination Oatmeal,' smells a lot like a sweaty garage. Tastes like you'd expect.
Allthingsclowns is going to be a blog about, you guessed it, clowns! Due to it being a slight passion of mine I wanted a page to dedicate to the knowledge and random facts that I’ve collected over the years, which is now this page!
Who am I?
I am your curator of this alley and will be hoping to post at least once a week with clown content! I also have another account called @messenger-tothe-moths , it is my main account and not like this but feel free to have a look!

Asks are open, and very much encouraged! Please keep them respectful but any questions about clowns or even questions for the curator (me!) will happily be answered.
haha do you get the irony because in all actuality Kris would be Truman but this is another example of the soul seizing Kris’ story and you can see the symbolism because they’re facing the wrong direct— (GETS SHOT ONE MILLION TIMES)

Whiteface:
The oldest type of clown, typically Whiteface includes a full white face with delicately drawn red, yellow, and white features. The look is completed with a colourful outfit and a funky wig to match. (This category can be split off into three other categories known as: The classic, The Straight Whiteface, and The mime.) Whiteface clowns usually set the stage for slapstick clowns like the Auguste to lead the punchline, they’re considered the most “beautiful” of the clowns with their delicate makeup.
Auguste:
This type of clown is involved with slapstick comedy and pranks, the clowns you see taking pies to the face or water buckets are most likely Auguste clowns. The base for their makeup is more of a skin color and white is only applied to their eyes and mouth. The only rule for Auguste Clown costuming is they can’t wear sequins, sparkles, glitter, and shiny fabrics. Those are reserved for the Whiteface Clown. On Clownopedia they are described as “A tailors nightmare” because of the sheer variety these clowns can have with their clothing.
Tramp/Hobo clown:
Tramp and Hobo clowns are considered more separate entities in a competitive environment. The question of whether they are the same or not definitely falls on the opinion of whoever you ask. (Though historically they’ve always been considered one instead of separate.) The main difference between these two stem in their attitudes and costumes, the Hobo is oftentimes described as not afraid of a hard job whereas the Tramp would rather sit in his own misery. Costuming wise, patches and tattered looking outfits are standard for these types of clowns. Tramp or hobo clown makeup features a flesh toned base, white around the eyes, and dark “stubble” around the mouth/lower half of the face.
BONUS: HISTORICAL CLOWN
Harlequin:
The name “Harlequin” stems from old French and Medieval stories about devils and demons. The Harlequin, (Arlecchino in Italian) became popularised in the Italian street theatre play: commedia dell'arte. The Harlequin is known for his quick yet light hearted nature despite being a sly servant. The Harlequin is even more known for (I would argue) for his romance with Columbine, another character within the play. The Harlequin traditionally wore his checkered costume, along with a dark mask and his slapstick (which was used as a magic wand to change the scenes of the play.) It’s not common to see Harlequins within your stereotypical “circus” unless it’s a historical play/performance of some sort.
