After having two obsession talks about utaittes, I thought I should do an appreciation post of a few of my favorites. Just because I haven't talked about them here does not mean that I wont in my next few posts ;ㅁ;

Name: Gero DOB: January 23rd, 1986, 0 o'clock. Blood type: A Likes: Fried rice, Miyazaki Aoi, JK

Who shall I start with? That's a simple question.

First things first. Without a doubt, Gero is my favorite utaitte of all time. I usually have hard time picking absolute favorites with anything, but Gero is too incredible to pass by.

This guy and his shouting just has no answer. He loves it, and does it just about every song. Gero not shouting in a song is like someone not adding ketchup to really plain french fries.

二息歩行 (Two Breaths Walking)

There aresomany covers of this song, but Gero's cover is still my favorite. The scream at 2:20 kind of made me jump at first, but I think it's a nice touch. Really, this guy is a utaitte shouting legend (Look at the 3rd video for a better example). To top it off, his singing voice is beautiful too.

Just Be Friends Piano Arrange

Why are you suddenly singing such soft songs...? I always imagined a song without his shouting wouldn't be worth listening to, but something like this... All these feels.. Marry me. I mean, just listen to him trying so hard not to scream. Even slipping a bit is adorable.

But just amazing shouting and a beautiful voice wouldn't be enough to make me this obsessed.

Double Lariat

(Gero is the guy on the left) This video is actually how I found about this guy. His sense of humor. Love it, embrace it. Seriously. This guy. Around 3:35, his short talk sums up my top two favorite part of his personality. The JK comment, and his obsession of fried rice.

In an interview, he was asked " What do you like better: girls or fried rice? " He straight out, without a doubt, answered: " fried rice ". But aside from that, his sense of humor is just amazing. Gero is my hero.

Also, this song is part of the Negero Radio series that's been extremely popular. Technically, it's Gero and Neru ( the other guy in there ) singing and talking. I've been through all of them and found all of them really hilarious.

Singing the Pokemon theme song like a boss.

He's so awesome, right? But he's also beautiful too.

This is another reason why Gero is my hero (hah. That rhymes). This was taken for part of his first single album, Gourmet. If it weren't for those arms, I would've never guessed that he was a guy. I remember screaming then cracking up the first time I saw this. Oh boy, do I want this album.

That face on the bottom right corner is Gero's signature face, also known as No-se (･｀ｪ´･). I use it quite frequently as well because of how cute it is.

But for closing, here are a few of his awesomeness:

Rainbow Girl feat. Ron

This was originally a song from Miku's side in a more upbeat version, but Gero has his own instrumental arrange and PV. I personally think this is amazing in singing, arrangement and PV quality. I listened to this before the original, and I really could not listen to the original anymore.

くたばれPTA ( Kutabare PTA )

This song practically came to life because of Gero. Seriously. Maybe I am biased because Gero was the reason why I found out about this song, but I really cannot find any other cover that I like better than this one. I wouldn't be surprised if they said this song was made for Gero. The shouting fits in too well not to be part of the song.

マトリョシカ( Matryoshka ) Band Arrange version

This is one of my favorite version of Matryoshka because I think the band arrange fits Gero really well. I also really think the mood of the song fits Gero's voice really well; so much room for shouting.

Also, give it up for the awesome picture starting at 1:28.

セツナトリップ( A Momentary Trip )

I don't have much of Gumi's songs because I never had the time to look through her, but this is one of the few I have. Again, Gero is the reason why I found the song. But really, I think his voice fits really well with the fast well with this song partly because of how fast it is. His slow, soft singing is amazing, but it feels more like Gero-rin when he sings fast, upbeat songs with shouting.

Halo

This is another song of Gero without screaming. But instead of being super slow like the piano arrange of Just Be Friends, it's still like a regular band song. I've often favored many songs like this, so I just had to put this up as well.

Also, " Halo " is technically " Hello " just translated oddly because that's how they pronounce it in Japanese.

Scissorhands

Another non-shouting Gero song. This isn't necessarily my favorite cover by Gero, but I still think it's done really well.

Another

Another one of those songs that has a lot of room for shouting; I'll call it a Gero song. Really, Gero goes really well with Rock and metal. This song was updated a few days before Halo.

二息步行( Two Breaths Walking )

This was during his Taiwan concert I wanted to be there too. According to report, he looked like he was kind of sick and the fans worried about him. Either way, he did a great job as usual with his singing, although it started to feel like he ran out of breath as he went on.

Appreciation to his voice and awesome sense of humor.

Pon Pon

This one is pretty self-explanatory, I believe. Everyone has practically heard Pon Pon before... But Gero really makes this one fun. His " Kawaii voice " is hilarious. But even more, just because he shows off his awesome shouting just makes it better. Most of the covers I've heard of this were just trying to sing like the original. That's not a bad thing, but I think showing off one's strongest characteristics in such a distinctive song is much more appealing. Gero also sounds like he really is having fun with the slight slip in laughter in the very beginning, and with how he goes from pon & way to pon & neko & sorry.

Magnet

I think this is the one of the most overly covered song ever. There are countless versions of this song that it's not even funny; but this version is hilarious.

Like the Double Lariat video, this is part of Negero Radio series. They had a special guest, ASK this time ( you know, the pimp guy at the end who couldn't shout with Gero and Neru? ). But Gero and his fried rice love...

人柱アリス( Alice Human Sacrifice )

This is another Negeru radio series. I can never show and end to my appreciation for Gero's personality. He just had to shout at the 3rd Alice. Out of all the Alices he could have done. I wont talk too much about Neru and Nelmo right now. Also, the Street Fighter game play part at the middle can be kind of boring... but aside from that, I really enjoyed this one.

Shota Shota Night Fever

This is a parody of Luka Luka Night Fever. And this is where Gero got his tittle as the Shota of Kansai. Oh man, the voice. The shota voice kills. Of course, Gero would end up shouting at the end, huh?

Kondo Takashi - Sakura Addiction

Just a Kondo-only Sakura Addiction. I like the original cover sung with Iida as well, but I really like the acoustic-ness of this version as well. But in this one... he sounds more like Fon than Hibari (Which I don't dislike since it brings in more of the softness into the song). I don't even know. I'm such a KHR-freak... But it's not only because of KHR that I appreciate his voice (of course, I would have probably never even heard of him if it wasn't for the anime, but still).

Lim Jae Bum - For You

This song… This song is just… beautiful. This song, that’s around 10 years old still has an amazing impact on the music industry. Lim Jae Bum has re-sung this song in the show “나는 가수다” (which he came in first, of course), and it immediately went up in second place in the Music Bank chart. Not only that, but it’s still rated the second most sung song in the Korean karaoke (aka 노래방)… If he actually went around like other singers and did some advertising, there would be just so much more impact… This song almost brought me to tears when I heard it in full audio mode during the live version in 나는 가수다…

I such at translating, and I don’t think anyone could possibly put the true meaning of these words into another language, but here’s my very bad/rough translation:

We must be two loves tangled in complicated fate. Everyday, I owe you a debt that I cannot repay. Like lovers, sometimes like strangers. Is it okay to continue to live like this? You’re still there with the many misdoings and frequent good-byes. I know that the only person in the world who made me live properly is you. To live without any regrets, I know that I have to hang on to you… My rough thoughts, anxious eyes, and you who is watching. That’s probably a war-like love. I’m dangerous, and I love you, so I’ll leave from your side. (x2) I’ll leave for your sake.

I can't stop obsessing over this song even after such a long time... Really, Radwimps is just so amazing ;__; After hearing just a few songs from them, it's not that hard to tell that they actually have the basics and composition nailed down as a band. A few things I love about them:

1. Genre: If Ellegarden is the complete American-style rock representative, then Radwimps is the one of the top mix of American and Japanese. Even with the American rock band qualities, they still maintain their strong Japanese style as well. Even so, they are very diverse in genre, which I absolutely love. Not being restricted to certain types of music, their songs consists of everything starting from soft and simple melodies to complicated head-spinning beats. (i.e. Order Made is obviously not rock, and is super soft and simple. Oshakasama is super long and complicated...)  

2. Music: Really, their parts are practically all solos. They don't sound very complicated, but they're actually really well packed with notes that require quite a bit of technique. Not only that, but they restrain from blasting distortion, which is often highly unpleasant to the ear by majority. Many tend to like the natural sound of the guitar itself, and Radwimps greatly appeals to that side of the likings.

3. Vocal: First thing, straight off; the vocal is really unstable. Yes, criticism. He sometimes (often) goes off of tune during the lives, nor does he have some amazing singing ability. However, there is a reason why I love his voice: it fits perfectly into the type of music that Radwimps produces. I would probably not listen to Yoijiro (the vocal) if he was alone, but neither would I listen to Radwimps without him.

4. Lyrics: Aside from the first three, this is probably the greatest reason that I am so attached to Radwimps. Not only does their genre is unique and diverse, but their lyrics are very interesting as well. Surely, they do have a lot of love songs for a rock band, but no matter, they're all amazing. Iindesuka is a cute representation of feelings with some comical insertions and some serious (not directly; tone wise) follow-ups. Tremolo also goes to mentioning how he will collect 1 Yen from everyone for their wedding. There are too many examples to mention, but my point is that they have some brilliant lyrics. They're also often touching and easy to sympathize with, allowing the listener to drift into their music.

Hatsune Miku - Rolling Girl Song By: Wowaka Cover By: Guriri

There are many interpretation of this song... Of course, not being specific in meaning, it can be taken in multiple ways. The Barnum/Forer effect may be occuring.

I personally thought a situation of prostitution made the most sense... especially at the part where the 'downill tempted the girl'. People who took the lyrics in terms of 'becoming human' or 'grades', that part doesn't fit in as well as the 'prostitution' interpretation. Becoming human or bringing grades up, although difficult, is an achievement in the end, however, prostitution is not. It's a fall in humanity, and giving up the conscious or sense (downhill) will make the 'rolling girl' feel lighter (even if it is in a disorted way).

Anyhow, the fact that this song portrays the hard work and effort done by the 'rolling girl' brings pain and misery doesn't change. Describing someone who faces the hardships of life while pushing his or herself to go on in terrible situations, this song may also be portraying the despair, exaggerared or not, that everyone carries or faces.

No this is not really Askesaka Satomi. This is a fan version that's just been done really well. Although I absolutely love the original, I also like this version as well. This version is a bit more light.

I'm suprised that this wasn't the first thing I stuck up in this blog... One of the very few songs on my 'Never-Get-Sick-Of' list. Loved the song (and singer and characters) enough for me to get over my cheapness and buy the actual CD (Hibari's side). Obviously, I got the used one ;] But even the used version was too much for Mukuro's side ;-; I have no idea why I love this song so much. Upbeat, yet somewhat... sad? I don't know how to describe it. Of course, Kondo and Iida has a big part of my favor... but still. Maybe my love for cherry blossoms also somehow contributed to my liking of this song (No, I didn't come to like sakura after KHR. This came wayyy before to a point where my 7th grade research poster was about Cherry Blossoms).

Suguru Inoue(井上優) & Hidekazu Ichinose (市瀬秀和) - 俺達のJOY!

Just one of my KHR obsession moment... :P Besides Sakura Addiction, I really liked this song. Not only because it was Gokudera and Yamamoto's seiyus singing together, but the lyrics and the meaning that follows. The sense of simple joy behind the hard times everyone goes through... It just feels like I'm being lifted up from all the complicated thoughts (which I don't hate, but can get a bit too much at times).

I wanted to upload the concert (Rebocon) version, but I couldn't find it on youtube ;-;

Deepside - What I Need

Yes, another song from a MMV. But this song is also a show for a modern/typical boy. First seeking someone who might fill their sides with material pleasures or the values qualites of society, then realizing that's not what's important. Although not necessairly making the smartest choice at first, the speaker discovers his true endearment... heart-warming, right?

But I kind of see it to be selfish. Although doing it for the good of the one he 'wants', in the end, he is only doing it for his pleasure (Well, I guess not exactly since he needs to go after someone else, but holding onto her would make her miserable... So trying to get away from her for his relief is also for her own good in a sense).

But that's just my negative point of view P:

Matsushita Yuya - Trust Me

There are so many parodies of this song (Durarara!! Ending), it's amazing o_o Besides the melody and the vocals, the lyrics which portrays the heart of one willing to love and comfort another pulled me out of the chain of self-pity songs. It's a good song for times where I need to shake things off and start walking forward end. (Well sort of. It's just kind of heart-warming)
