Happenings Lately

Hey all, it's been a long while since we've been on this site and here's an update on what we've been up to. We just finished recording/co-producing an EP with singer/songwriter Ashley Pagano (who came all the way from New York to record with us) and are very pleased with the final product of our first real collaboration with another artist. Should be posted by her in the next month or so, when that happens we'll share the link so you can check it out! 😊🎼🎶

Trying to figure out what direction to take our music is difficult. I think once I figure out a concept, it will make things a lot easier. A message to all who have participated in the ALS challenge-

Raising awareness is great, and the ice bucket challenge is a way to spread awareness of. I commend you for your participation and I think it's great that ALS has raised over $62.5 million since the challenge began.

To those who donate instead of participate in the challenge-

That's awesome. You won't have a bunch of cynics that claim you're destroying the earth by dumping a bucket of ice water on your head to raise awareness for ALS.

A message to all who oppose the challenge-

Do you really think that wasting the amount of estimated water for ALS is even close to the huge amount of water that we waste each day from things that for charitable causes? Coke sells an estimated 560 MILLION liters of soda EACH DAY and it takes about 3 liters of water to create one liter of Coke. 560 million liters per day times three is just under 1.70 billion liters per day. Per year? Over 620 billion liters of water, just for coke. That is WAY more than the ice bucket challenge...per day...for one product...by one company.

Even if some people are doing it because it's trendy or for the attention, the exposure and spread of awareness is what matters. Seriously, how often do you find people on the Internet coming together for something positive?

This is coming from me. Being pessimistic about a genuinely good cause is just being shitty. Want to stop wasting water? Stop drinking soda. The average American drinks 44.7 GALLONS of soda per year. Not sure if it takes the same amount of water per soda to create every soda, but if you drink solely Coke, that's 89.4 gallons of water per year the average person is wasting, or 338 liters. Considering that the ice bucket challenge is probably about a gallon or two of soda, that's nothing.

What a sad world we live in.

My music is very important to me, which is why the album that Evan and I had most recently completed was a concept album, one that drew from many influences. The album is about a man who has found love, but is still striving for more out of life than the monotony of day in and day out life. His dreams direct him to what he is destined for; he sees the "Phoenix" constellation in the sky. "Phoenix" is the symbol for rebirth and he comes to the conclusion that his dream to visit space has never died. He is conflicted to say the least; he has the love of his life on earth and his dreams are millions of miles away. He bids his love farewell at Gate 17 in preparation for training. After weeks of training, he has become very distraught. He misses his lover and wishes she would come with him. After some affectionate words comes a fight. He feels she does not understand the emptiness he felt before deciding to go on this mission and she feels that he does not understand how empty it makes her feel to be left alone. On the day he is to embark on his mission, he waits to see her face one last time before he departs, but she never shows. Upon launch, he is filled with a mixture of anticipation and sadness. He gazes into the sky and all he can see is her. After hours of misery, he decides to take a tour on the ship to try and get things off his mind, but cannot seem to. He begins to fantasize about her and feels as if he cannot go on without her. He begins to search the ship for any shred of her presence and discovers that she had snuck onto the ship. The joy that he feels seeing her again is cut short; the ship has been struck with an asteroid. The ship is ripped into pieces and their bodies are flung into the endlessness that is space. They are unable to fight the impact of the crash and are torn from each other's arms. All they can do is gaze at one another as gravity consumes them. He has a hard time accepting that she is gone and he will likely die as well. His senses begin to fail as he begins to lose his equilibrium. He begins to ponder the meaning of his existence and why he chose his dreams over his lover. He is furious as he comes to the realization that he could have led an acceptable life on earth with her if he had just stayed. The only solace left was his imminent death. His last sight is "Deimos" as he takes his last breath. After hours of suffering, he has found Moksha in death. Thank you to those who have read the story. ~Bret. One of the most personal songs off the album. The song is about my battle with "vertigo." Vertigo makes you feel like you're drunk on a boat, but all the time. I have taken medications to try fixing, I've had scans done on my brain, I've had blood and urine tests, just about everything. I went to the doctor a few days ago (after an ER visit) and I'm waiting on my latest test results. I'm not sure if it's just vertigo or autoimmune, or something else. 6 years of trying to figure it out, it's frustrating... I should find out the results sometime between now and Monday. Hopefully someone can relate to this song. Anyways, enjoy your night. ~Bret.
