I have a genuine question because I simply don't get it and I need someone to explain it to me, please
I've read that the "Louisiana fried chicken" comment is read as racist, and I can't understand why? I thought it was to mock the suicide attempt by Louis, because he was so disfigured he "resembled" a KFC nugget + the joke changing Kentucky to Louisiana because it's where Louis is from
I mean it's cruel because it mocks a suicide attempt, what am I missing?

I'm here just happy we'll have another season of this queer vampires show.
I don't know about you but I feel like every show with queer protagonists gets prematurely canceled, so I was low-key unsure about the renewal and now I'm so relieved.
Also I don't know the writers so much to get my strong opinion on them, and I'm getting that Rolin will be somehow involved so I don't expect big big changes. (Hope they'll hire some new writers too)
I'm very curious and as I said, overall relieved!
(I'm really here just for the drama in the show, don't care about the drama about the writers and actors as many things feel too parasocial)
What if your mom took you to see the girls you play dolls with from down the street get burned alive. And then you go to Paris and finally find love but then you get assaulted and then your assaulter burns themselves alive in front of you. And then your first love burns themself in front of you. And then you go to Italy with your mom but then she abandons you and so you bury yourself for 80 years only to be pulled out by a sadist who tells you to watch over this statue so you don’t burn to death. And then the statue attacks you randomly one day and now you feel this evil ancient power inside of you that you have no idea what to do with. So you go to America and fall for this hot guy that reminds you of your first love but you keep fucking it up so you give him a daughter but then you fuck that up too and they kill you. So you wallow and then decide to do the revenge thing but then when it’s too late you realize it isn’t what you actually wanted because once again you’re a little boy in France watching a girl burn alive at a trial BUT ITS YOUR DAUGHTER.
And then your exes get together and many years later you're in your house alone and learn that your old love almost burned himself alive. what then
I loved the writing this season of TVL.
It wasn't perfect, nothing is, and I hope they will wrap up a lot of things they didn't show us this season in the next one. But I still liked the job the writers did.
I liked that the characters were different than in S1 and S2, because they were shown to us in a different person's perspective. I add all they showed us this season to what we already know about the characters. I don't think they were changed or ruined, I think they were expanded on. Anyone you ask will have a different opinion on you based on their experiences of you, and none of them will know the real you.
I love that Louis was held accountable for the wrongs he's done, but I don't think he was painted as a villain, as I've seen people claim online. Everyone in that show does bad things. Everyone makes mistakes. Just like in reality, only real people usually don't go into such extremes. I personally don't see Louis portrayed as a bad character or a bad person, but a man who tries to do good things, but is misguided in his attempts.
I like that Claudia got to finally scream at the both of them and show her angriest self. That she wasn't being painted by Louis as this innocent child, so at odds with her own words in her diaries.
I like that Armand got to gremlin out. I like him a little evil. I like him spiteful. And I love that he has finally broke free from his role of the victim and embraced his wrongs. Maybe I'm projecting, but I see in him the need to scream "yes, I did horrible things, I fucked up, but so did you!".
And I liked that they managed to make me feel with Lestat. That they didn't go in and completely erase the first two seasons, that they didn't remake them, instead, they showed us why those things happened the way they happened. They gave us a way of seeing horrible acts with a bit of compassion.
I love that these characters are flawed. I love them for their flaws. None of these vampires are heroes. They never were. But we are all the heroes in our own story, and we were seduced by the tale.
With all the things happening in this season I must admit that the question that pops up in my mind more often is: why were Daniel and Armand on the same plane??
They were going to NY from Dubai all that time after the interview? Why they stayed in Dubai? Why take the plane together if Louis didn't want to risk Armand hurting him? Or it's from another trip altogether? Were Armand and Daniel going on little trips together? Were they dating? I need to knooow (I mean I don't think they were dating but still)
(Also my headcanon for now is that Armand turned him because Daniel was dying in some way and he wanted to save him)

Ok i have a take on the ragdoll discourse to make everyone angry at me.
Lestat is not Armand's maker. He is not Armand's lover. He is not his parent. He isn't even his friend. He hates him. He owes Armand nothing and Armand has hurt him in innumerable ways. (at least so far in the narrative). He can strike a low blow in a diss track. It is a low blow, but that is what a diss track is for. I could see someone probably being like "the for sale is in reference to Lestat buying the company with his generous endowment (pun not intended this time)" but not paired with ragdoll. At best Daniel Hart wrote a very clumsy line. But again, who cares. It is a diss track it is supposed to hurt. Now, on the other side of the argument, is that Sam Reid said his character wouldn't do that. He might have meant "he wouldn't do that to Claudia" or "he wouldn't do that to someone he cares about" or he could have misspoken or forgotten than line from the song because he is not an omniscient being and because he probably has a lot less input in the songwriting decisions vs script. Who knows? Actor interviews are not CANON, they are allowed to be not 100% correct, it is not a plot hole. There are press tours where actors and showrunners outright lie about the material, this is inconsequential, and doesn't invalidate the spirit of what Sam is saying. Because it is a diss track it is meant to be insulting. Who writes a diss track with no insulting lines? That said, I do have a final quibble as to what Lestat is *trying to say* with the line in context. Because it is saying he was sex abused as a child but it is not *mocking him* for being sexually abused as a child. It is mocking him for using that as an excuse for his current attitude.

Lestat's whole thing is he refuses to be defined by his past. Here, we see Lestat talking about meeting Armand. Armand lives in a coven where they are all poor beggars and tells of his backstory being a sex slave before he was rescued, showing his painting at the Lourve, always looking gloom and having 101 rules on how to be a vampire. Life is so cruel and hard, and your life should also be artificially cruel and hard. And this is completely antithetical to Lestat's way of life. He doesn't dwell on the past. He refuses to live in misery, or inflict more misery on himself. He doesn't add penances and rules to life, and never says "pity me" for his past or his abuse. THAT is what Lestat is mocking about Armand, that is why he is telling Armand to fix his face, because he is always sad and dour and gloomy and LESTAT DETESTS THAT. For him, the right thing is to always look onwards.
Is Lestat right? No, Lestat is at the opposite extreme of refusing to deal with the past. But he is also right that Armand's attitude doesn't do him any favors, and it is worse that he dragged others into his web of misery.
Tl:dr; people can say mean things in the murder show, actor statements aren't gospel, and don't take lines out of context.
This: I don't think Lestat wanted to diss Armand's lack of beauty, it's about his sad/wet dog look. He knows that Armand is stunning, but the point is what OP said.
Also he met him when Armand was underground with a bunch of desperate guys, then a bit of Paris, then he made him participate in Claudia's murder, then he steals his ex and comes back after 70+ years with his puppy eyes and a long coat. I can see where the diss comes from, but Armand knows he's beautiful (he can read people's minds)

the very idea that someone could sit down, watch lestat puke while still trying to rationalize the abuse, have a full blown panic attack over it when louis yells that there is no rationalizing this, and then go say it's consensual...that it's not portrayed as abuse...insane...
i also think a lot of people aren't really getting the *point* of louis' reaction. it's extremely harsh and judgmental and completely insensitive to the fact that lestat is being abused, but that is the purpose of it. the entire season is lestat attempting to justify it. this is louis saying that you cannot justify it. there is no rational way to justify that happening. and when lestat has a breakdown over it, they both sort of realize at the same time that this means lestat has been suffering incestuous sexual abuse for 200 fucking years.
it overwhelms lestat, and it clicks for louis. that's when he changes tacts, when he comforts lestat, when he gently tries to help him admit that it's been abuse all along in the bar. it's so realistic, such a necessary sequence.
i think there is unfortunately a knee jerk reaction people have to abuse like this, esp when it's mother/son, where it's just "gross", "weird", or "sick", as louis says. where the child is not taken to be a victim, somehow. i think the show is very honest in having this be louis' initial reaction, until he sees lestat's panic, until he properly thinks it through for a second. and then he gets it, and he feels horrible about what he said. again, it's just all very realistic and bittersweet. everyone involved did an incredible job with this storyline imo.
With all the wrong things Louis and Lestat did, I don't think we can blame any of them for their argument about the incest thing.
Lestat knows it's wrong, he himself feels sick, he himself doesn't want to his relationship with his mother to be like that. He also knows that Louis would always see through and he would always step in; Lestat wanted to be confronted by Louis! He needed to hear that from him. He left crumbs and it all went down worst that he imagined, maybe, but he knew he needed to have Louis perspective in this.
Louis' reaction is what Lestat, deeply, really wanted. It's raw and cruel like Louis is, but it's honest and shaking. And when he sees Lestat feeling awful he knows that there's more to it and the "blame" has done its purpose, and the blame leaves space for affection and support (what Lestat needs).
Lestat physical reaction is like that not because he thinks Louis hates him, but because the weight of it all came crushing on him all at once, the weight of the trauma he tried to suppress for so long, the possibility of his mother being yet another abuser to him.
And the hug! My God the hug and the acting.
I mean statistically it shouldn't even have been the worst double date ever
