i was a little apprehensive to watch this because itâs four minutes long and i have a short attention span, but within the first 30 seconds i was hooked.
Headcanons for Luke Pattersonâs Girlfriend from 1995
The link to part 8 is here
This is Part 9. Thereâs no title for it because Itâs pretty random. But Basically. Luke is in 2020 and a certain someone reminds him of his dead girlfriend.
So, we all know that after the boys died they saw their own bodies, then their funerals, and then everything went dark until Julie played their CD blah blah blah.
During that time they didnât see Bridgett. So itâs only after their CD gets played and theyâre in 2020 that they realize she died too.Â
And they assume that she passed on.Â
Theyâre all sad about it and grieve in different ways.Â
They bring it up around Julie but only in passing because itâs painful to talk about. Especially for Luke. Â
So Julie knows they had a friend, who acted as their roadie, who they were close with, but she doesnât know anything else.Â
Fast forward to when Julie is about to play a song after the rally. Sheâs watching Dirty Candyâs performance. Luke and the band poof in right beside her to show their support.Â
Luke sees the girls performing and does a double take because That girl looks like Bridgett???
Slightly different skin tone, different height, and definitely a different style but thereâs an energy about her that he canât shake.Â
Luke nudges Reggie. âDoesnât that girl remind you of Bridgett?â
Reggie gives him a look of disbelief. âYou mean the girl in pink? No. Not even a little bit.âÂ
Luke wanted to argue with Reggie but he realized he didnât have a specific thing to point out about her that would convince the bassist.Â
But as he watched the girl sing he found himself pulled into a memory.
It was his freshman year of high school and he was trying out for the basketball team.
The coach was a cranky older woman who coached most of the athletic programs at school.
There were a few freshmen trying out but for the most part it was seniors and juniors whoâd already been on the team before.
So Luke was making small talk with the coach to try to get on her good side as everyone was walking into the gym.
When they all stepped through the doors they saw that the girls from cheerleading tryouts were there.
It was a bunch of senior girls sitting at a table with underclassmen on the bleachers. And then Bridgett was at the center of the gym.
The coach didnât look happy. She glared at Bridgett and then the older girls at the table âI thought I told you girls to be out of here by 4:00!â
One of the senior girls is like âSorry coach. We just have one more girl. Take a seat. Weâll be done before you know it!â
The coach sighed and told all the guys to sit down.
Luke was honestly surprised Bridgett was trying out for cheerleading. He hadnât known much about her yet besides that she was quiet and loved music.
When he saw her around school she was mostly by herself. She had recently gotten a choppy punk haircut and she had cut small slits into her gym uniform to match the look.
Luke sat on the first row hoping that sheâd look his way.
The same senior girl turned to all the boys as if happy to have a new audience. âFor tryouts, we asked everyone to come up with their own cheer and then go into our fight song routine. So thatâs what Fringe is going to try to show you guys.â
Luke could swear he saw the other girls were giggling to themselves.
All eyes turned to Bridgett who seemed determined to ignore everyone on the bleachers. She let out a nervous breath before clapping her hands together.
âFrom east to west, Los Feliz is the best!â she shouted with an energetic smile on her face. She clapped in rhythm to her rhyme and rocked form one foot to the other.
âFrom east to west, Los Feliz is the best!â
She did a body roll which made a number of guys on the bleachers hoot and whistle. She seemed to draw energy from the attention and it put more bounce in her dance.
âThat other teamâs a mess, they know we are the best! Now everybody cheer, cause you know the best is here!â
Bridgett then started chanting the school fight song with so much enthusiasm that everyone on the bleachers started chanting with her.
When she was done the stands erupted in applause. She looked over with an elated smile and in that moment her dark brown eyes meet Lukeâs.
Her cheeks immediately became red and Luke stared at her in awe. Sheâs so beautiful.
The senior girls looked annoyed. And in a clipped voice one said, âif you made the team, weâll give you a call.â
He didnât get the chance to talk to her until the weekend when he was at Bobbyâs house.
It was one of those moments where he had to lie and say he was going to the bathroom, to sneak away and see her.
He asked if she made the team and she let out a sigh.
Bridgett: âNo. The coach called my parents and told them I danced inappropriately and my gym uniform had revealing holes. So now I have a week's worth of detention.â
Luke: âWhat?! Thatâs insane!â
Bridgett shrugged âItâs whatever. I wouldnât have liked being around those girls anyway...â she shifted her eyes to her feet. âI really wish you hadnât been there. Then I could pretend like it never happened.â
Luke: âWhy? You had so much energy and got everyone in that room pumped. You connected so well with everyone! You wereâŠ. incredible.â
Luke blinks back to reality when everyone in the gym is on their feet applauding the girl group.
The girl in pink gives an elated smile scanning the crowd with her wide dark brown eyes.
She shouts over the noise. âBe sure to check out my new YouTube video!â
Luke knows heâs not crazy. That girl looks like Bridgett and it kinda freaks him out.Â

If youâre wondering where you can read part 7, itâs right here.
Part 8- Orpheum DayÂ
Orpheum day was going to be the best day of their lives.
Weeks beforehand they were inviting everyone at school to come.Â
They photocopied posters to put up all over town.Â
They played the bandâs music over the speaker at the music store.
Did EVERYTHING to get the word out. Â
Reggie and Bobby insist on planning what to wear days in advanced.Â
Bobby: âWe gotta get our look right. Every band has a look.â Reggie: âThere will be girls there. We gotta look hot.âÂ
Lukeâs like: âGuys! Itâs not about how we look. Itâs aBoUt ThE mUsIc!!!â Â
Each member of Sunset Curve is a ball of anxious excitement.Â
They keep asking her to do things she already does for every gig they haveâCan you make sure we bring all the cords we need?â âCan you help with set up?â âCan you be there for the soundcheck?â
Bridgett doesnât mind, she just smiles and is like âOf course! Whatever you guys need.âÂ
Around the otherâs Luke is the optimistic one saying âThereâs nothing to be nervous about! Weâreso ready!âÂ
But when he talks about it will Bridgett alone he gets all vulnerable. He just wants to make it so bad and doesnât want to mess it up.Â
Bridgett tells Luke that she thinks he would invite his parents.Â
Luke immediately says no and has a bunch of excuses. âThey wonât even come.â âIf they did come it would just be to tell me to drop the band.â âThey wonât like my music.âÂ
She thinks its unfair to assume what theyâd do. âYou donât want to be mad at them forever do you?âÂ
Luke gets really defensive. Itâs the first time heâs ever yelled at her.Â
Luke: âTheyâre the ones who are trying to control me!â âWhy would I invite them, when theyâre just going to ruin it?!â âAnd why are you defending them! They donât even like you!âÂ
Luke knows that he messed up because Bridgettâs looks really hurt.Â
Bridgett: âWhat?âÂ
Luke:Â âIâm sorry, Bj. I shouldnât have said that.â
Bridgett: âThey really donât like me? Why? What did I do?âÂ
Luke tries to backtrack what he said. But Bridgett is convinced she did something wrong. So Luke explains the argument that he had with his parents and how they assumed she was a bad influence.Â
Bridgett is clearly upset and Luke hugs her to comfort her. âYou didnât do anything, Bj. Youâre incredible.âÂ
When the day arrives Bridgett gets so caught up in preparing everything for them she forgets to eat.Â
She wears the Blink 182 shirt Luke gave her. With everything happening, Luke doesnât even notice.Â
As theyâre prepping for soundcheck Bridgett notices Luke looks a little restless.Â
âHey,â She gives him a quick peck on the lips and says âIâm so proud of you.âÂ
Lukeâs nervousness melts away and he wraps his arms around her. âCan I get another one of those? I need extra luck today.âÂ
Bridgett gives him another kiss and Bobby makes a disgusted noise.Â
Bobby: âPlease stop. This is gross.âÂ
Itâs time for soundcheck and Luke tells the band to play Now or Never because itâs one of Bridgettâs favorites.Â
Itâs the best theyâve ever played and Bridgett knows this show is gonna be amazing.Â
Bridgett meets Rose.Â
Rose: âYou know these guys?â
Bridgett: âYeah. Iâm their roadie.âÂ
Rose: âTheyâre amazing! Itâs catchy like Beach Boys but has the hard instrumentals like Green Day-â
Bridgett: âOh my gosh! I love you!âÂ
Rose and Bridgett are talking about music and Bobby comes up to them to start flirting with Rose.Â
Bobby: âSo⊠you come around here often?âÂ
Bridgett mockingly: âPlease stop. This is gross.âÂ
Luke gives Bobby a wet will and Bridgett laughs.Â
When she hears theyâre going to get street dogs she goes with.Â
When they get there and she sees the condiments are in the back of a car she makes a face.Â
Bridgett: âGross.â
Alex: âI thought you said you were hungry.âÂ
Bridgett: âNot hungry enough.âÂ
Reggie teases her about being a wimp and then takes a giant bite from his hot dog. He then makes a face indicating that itâs not good at all. Alex who had also taken a bite winces. âThatâs an...interesting flavor.âÂ
Bridgett: âYeah. I thought so.â
Reggie: âI dare you to eat one.â
Bridgett: âNo way.â
Reggie: âCâmon. Itâs just a little strange tasting. Itâs not gonna kill you. Iâll give you five bucks.âÂ
Bridgettâs stomach growls loudly and Luke hands her his hot dog.Â
Luke: âJust take a bite of mine. Iâll finish it if you donât want the rest.âÂ
Bridgett reluctantly gives the hot dog a bite. It isnât as bad as she thought it would be, but it isnât something she wants to keep eating.Â
The guys laugh at the faces she makes as she swallows.Â
She hands the rest of the hot dog back to Luke.Â
Bridgett: âYeah. You can finish it.â to Reggie âYou owe me at least a dollar.â

If youâre wondering if thereâs a part 6, there is, and you can find it here.
Part 7-Their RelationshipÂ
Bridgett and Luke have one of those relationships where theyâre just happy to be around each other.Â
Lukeâs already a genuinely happy person but if Bridgett walks into the room or someone mentions her name BOOM. Wide smile on his face.Â
Bridgett is pretty chill but just seeing Luke or his name being mentioned gives her an excited energy.Â
Itâs not a first relationship for either of them so theyâre not awkward. But since they like each other so much and donât want to mess anything up they do get nervous.Â
They blush every time theyâre alone.Â
There will be an a little bit of hesitation before initiating physical affection.Â
It takes them a few tries to really get comfortable around each other.Â
They start by just talking honestly about what held them back from making a move for so long.Â
Luke: âWait, you liked me back then?!â
Bridgett: âI thought you always saw me as a sister.â
Luke: âSeriously? I always thought you thought I was dumb.âÂ
Bridgett: âIâd never think that about you!âÂ
But eventually they get to the point where they feel like they can talk about anything with each other. Until theyâre never nervous around each other.Â
Bridgettâs first love language is words of affirmation.Â
So sheâs always complimenting Luke. âYou look so nice today.â âYou smell good.â âYou did awesome in rehearsal tonight.âÂ
She tries to build him up in different ways every day which Luke loves.Â
Luke doesnât compliment her as much. Not because he doesnât appreciate her, but because he just doesnât think to.Â
The times he does, he doesnât get specific either. Heâll just be looking at her wistfully and say âYouâre so incredible, Bj.âÂ
What Luke doesnât give in compliments he makes up for in kisses.
Cheek kisses, nose kisses, kisses on top of her head, quick kisses.
Lukeâs first love language is physical touch.Â
He initiates most of it because Bridgettâs past relationships werenât as cuddly (for lack of a better word)
So heâs always standing close enough that their hips touch, has an arm around her waist, around her shoulders, holding hands.Â
Not too much in front of the band because they donât want to make their friends uncomfortable.Â
But if theyâre all just sitting around being lazy Bridgett is gonna have her head on Lukeâs shoulder.Â
Sheâs absently play with the rings on his fingers.Â
One day when theyâre alone Luke acts a lot more touchy than normal.
Bridgettâs like: âMaybe we should talk about boundaries.â
And at first Luke laughs and is all âBoundaries? What are those?â
But Bridgett is serious and explains what she is and isnât comfortable with. And Luke listens and is 100% respectful.Â
While theyâre talking about it, she asks if he has any boundaries. Luke is surprised by the question but after thinking about it for a minute realizes that he does.Â
And Bridgett is 100% respectful of him.
So they never cross any of the otherâs boundaries when they cuddle. It makes them both feel cared for and safe.Â
Every once in a while Bridgett initiates a slow kiss when they're alone and Luke absolutely loves this.Â
Also right before a show will ask Bridgett for a kiss for luck.Â
Sheâll roll her eyes then check and make sure the band isnât watching but always gives him one.Â
Luke will try to make it last as long as possible so sheâll need to push him on stage. âYouâve gotta go!â
They share food all of the time.Â
Bridgett will buy Luke a pack of m&mâs and then five minutes later theyâre both eating from the bag.Â
Sometimes they do it to save money. Like theyâll buy a McDonaldâs meal, share the fries, tear the big mac in half, and drink out of the same straw.Â
But they just genuinely like sharing food so even when theyâre not saving money they just eat off each otherâs plates.
Luke finds out Bridgett doesnât know how to play guitar.Â
Luke:Â âYou fix guitars all the time!â
Bridgett: âI can tune them but I canât play.âÂ
Teaches her the basics by sitting behind her and putting his hands over hers.Â
Is laughably bad at picking up on it. Can barely pluck out Mary Had a Little Lamb.Â
Bridgett:Â âStop laughing at me!â
Luke: âYouâll get it. Weâll just keep practicing.âÂ
One night on theyâre all on their way back from a gig.
Bobby is driving, Alex is in the passenger seat, and Reggie, Bridgett, and Luke are in the back.Â
Reggie is dead asleep (loudly snoring)Â
Luke has an arm wrapped around Bridgett and sheâs dozing off on his chest.Â
Luke kisses her hair and whispers âI love you,â
Bridgett jerks awake so fast that her head knocks into Lukeâs jaw.Â
Luke: âOW!â
Bridgett: âIâM SO SORRY!â
They look at each other both in a deer in the headlights kind of way. Â
Luke: âI thought you were asleep.â
Bridgett: âI mean, I kinda was but-â
Bobby looking suspiciously through the rearview mirror: âEverything okay back there?â
Luke and Bridgett not wanting to talk about what just happened with Bobby and Alex listening: âEverythingâs fine!â
When they get back to the house they sit on the front porch and talk about it.Â
At the end of the day Luke didnât want that to be the first time she heard him say it, but he still meant it.Â
And Bridgett isnât sure if sheâs ready to say it back yet.Â
Luke is obviously disappointed. But to lighten the mood says âyet?âÂ

Part 6- First Date
They borrowed Bobbyâs carÂ
The drive to San Diego is about 2 hours and they take turns driving.Â
The entire way to the concert Bridgett is playing every Joan Jett CD she owns and is rattling off Joan Jettâs history and what her songs did for rock music.Â
It is her mission to make sure Luke is as hyped as she is to see this concert.Â
At first Luke was just happy to be spending time with Bridgett but as she talks about Joan Jett he becomes genuinely pumped to see the show.Â
They both tried to dress nice for each other but when they get out of the car their clothes are wrinkled. They both find it funny.Â
Before they go to the theater Bridgett tries to convince Luke to stop so they can get a pizza but he insists they get street dogs.Â
They end up being the best street dogs theyâve ever had.Â
Bridgett: âWow. Mine is actually good.â
Luke: âSee, told you this was a good idea.âÂ
When they get outside the theater thereâs a huge line of people mostly in their mid thirties early forties.Â
After 15 minutes of waiting Luke gets restless and starts looking around. At 20 minutes he starts to get out of line. Bridgett asks what heâs doing and he doesnât answer, just says heâll be right back.Â
Ten minutes pass and Bridgett starts to get nervous only for Luke to rush back, grabbing her hand.Â
Luke: âCome with me.â
Bridgett: âBut weâll lose our place in line!â
Luke: âDonât worry about it. Câmon.âÂ
Luke takes her around the building to a back entrance and opens the door. Luke explains how they might be able to see the show from the ground if they sneak in this way. Bridgett looks really apprehensive.Â
Bridgett: âI donât know about this. They could kick us out if we get caught.â
Luke just smiles wide and grabs her hand âDonât worry. Weâre not gonna get caught.âÂ
So they sneak in hand in hand.Â
Both a little extra smiley because theyâre holding hands.Â
But then they get caught by this large buff security guy. He looks really annoyed at them especially since theyâre teenagers.Â
Heâs about to kick them out.Â
Luke is trying to convince him not to.Â
Bridgett looks extremely sad like sheâs gonna cry. Luke sees this and then turns to the security guard with a whole new fire in his eyes.Â
Luke: âAre you married?â
Security Officer looks at him apprehensively: âWhat? Why?â
Luke: âI want you to think back to your first date with that person. How special you wanted it to be.â
Bridgettâs entire face goes red,Â
Turns out that the security man did have a heart.Â
Not only did he not kick them out, but he lets them onto the ground to see the concert.Â
Bridgett in pure disbelief: âI canât believe that worked.â
Luke smiles at her âYou keep doubting me. About the hot dogs, about the seats-â
Bridgett: âIâll never doubt you again.â she says and laces their fingers together.
The concert is amazing.Â
They jump up and down like maniacs.Â
Hoot and hollar during the guitar solos.Â
Scream along to the lyrics.Â
At some point the band plays Crimson and Clover and Luke wraps both arms around Bridgettâs waist and they start swaying to the music.Â
Theyâre slow dancing in the middle of a concert with their foreheads touching.
Theyâre both a little nervous but so happy to have such a soft sweet moment.Â
The concert leaves them a little drained so the drive back is a lot more chill.
They talk a little but for the most part just listen to the radio.Â
At one point while Bridgett is driving and Luke has his head leaned against the window.Â
She absent mindedly starts singing along with the radio. Luke sits up and is like. âYou can sing?! I had no idea you could sing!âÂ
Bridgett is embarrassed. âI really donât singâŠ. I thought you were asleep.â
Luke: âBut you sound so good.âÂ
Bridgett: âI really donâtâŠâ
Luke asks her to keep singing and she sighs, âOnly for you.â
So she finishes singing the rest of the song with the radio.Â
When they get back to the house Bobby is waiting on the porch like a dad.
But heâs mostly concerned about his car. âDid you fill up the tank? You didnât ding her did you?â Â
Meanwhile her actual dad is all smiles. âDid you guys have fun?âÂ
Bridgett tells her dad all about the concert while Luke goes to the garage and gets ready to go to sleep.Â
At some point thereâs a knock on the garage door and Luke opens it to see Bridgett pulling her sleeves over her hands nervously.
Bridgett: âI just wanted to say goodnight.âÂ
Luke smiling: âOkay. Goodnight-â
Bridgett interrupts him with a kiss that is far too short for Lukeâs liking. But heâs so stunned that she kissed him, he doesnât react.Â
âGoodnight.â she says then runs back into her house.Â
That night they both definitely lay awake with butterflies in their stomach.Â
The next morning Luke pays her back for that kiss.
When i write part 7 the link will be here.
Edit: changed the gif just because I wasnât a big fan of the last one. Sorry if some of you got confused.Â
This is part 5. There will be no more parts after this.Â
Immediately after the war was over Genji had enrolled to begin her training to become a Fire Sage.Â
She had told Zuko about it the day before his coronation. âI leave for Crescent Moon Island the day after tomorrow!â Sheâs beaming and Zuko says âIâm so happy for you.â but heâs actually really disappointed that sheâs not staying.Â
Zuko: âHow long will you be gone?â
Genji: âNot sure yet. It could be a few months.â
Sheâs in the front row cheering for Zuko during his coronation.
Zuko goes to the docks to see Genji off when she leaves for Crescent Moon Island. She hugs him tight before she goes and sheds a few tears when he says goodbye.Â
After she boards the boat they wave at each other until they canât see the other person anymore.
The Sages chastise her for acting improperly. But she lets the comments roll off her. Sheâs a lot more sad leaving Zuko than she expected she would be.
Sheâs at Crescent Moon Island for several weeks. The majority of the time she works with earth benders and non benders to rebuild the temple. Â
When sheâs not doing that sheâs having in depth history lessons with the other sages.Â
Or sheâs meditating (the Sages meditate for four hours a day at least).Â
Zuko and Mei still have their moment but it doesnât happen the day of his coronation. It happened a few weeks after Genji left.Â
When the Sages have made significant progress with the Crescent Moon temple two other Sages take Genji on a pilgrimage to the other nations.Â
Genji had seen most of the Earth Kingdom before but this trip she gets to go to the Northern Water Tribe (where she sees the Northern lights and the Spirit Oasis) and the ruins of the Eastern Air Temple. Â
The entire time sheâs away from Zuko they exchange letters (a letter a week at least and multiple in a week when she goes on her pilgrimage).Â
Most of the Sages discourage her from writing these letters.
Between their daily duties, lessons, and mediations the only times she has to write to him is while sheâs eating so she has people looking over her shoulder all the time.Â
One time when she was writing, a Sage glazed at her paper and saw the word âZuzu.â and yelled at her for having an indecent relationship with the Fire Lord and not taking her commitment to the Sages seriously.Â
Her face becomes hot âWeâve known each other since we were 8 years old! Iâm allowed to miss him!â then storms off.
When sheâs not around them they grumble that theyâre wasting their time training her because of her relationship with the Fire Lord.Â
Shyu is the only one that sees the benefit of training her either way.Â
Mei and Zuko break up without it having anything to do with Genji. They just donât balance each other out right.
When Zuko and Genjiâs letters become more frequent they also become more tender. âI really miss you.â âI want to see you.â âI wish you were here.â âWhen are you coming back?âÂ
She comes back to the Fire Nation capital for a few days to get some documents from the Dragonbone Catacombs to put into the new temple.Â
When her boat docks, Fire Lord Zuko is there to greet her.Â
Genji really wants to hug him but the other Sags are there and she doesnât feel like being yelled at, so she bows and says a formal âItâs an honor Fire Lord, Zuko.âÂ
But when their eyes meet they canât hide their pure excitement at being together again.
That night Zuko sneaks into the Sages quarters of the Dragonbone Catacombs to see her without anyone else around.Â
Itâs the middle of the night when she hears the knock at the door so she starts out on high alert but then hears his voice saying âItâs me.âÂ
She opens the door quickly pulling him into her room. He has on a hood and is carrying a bag.
Zuko: âI donât want to get you in trouble but I had to see you-â she cuts him off with a big hug. Her face nuzzled into his neck and heâs holding her tight against him.Â
She pulls away from him and is practically bouncing around the room as she tells him everything sheâs been doing while she was gone.Â
Even though most of what sheâs saying was in her letters he listens with a tender smile on his face. When she runs out of things to say she just stares at him with love in her eyes. Zuko takes her face in his hands.Â
âDo you have any idea how much I missed you?âÂ
âI missed you too-â she starts to say and he kisses her.Â
Genji pulls away too soon. Thereâs a sadness in her eyes. âZuko, you know I canât-â
But Zuko has a speech prepared and says, âI never wanted you to leave. After the war, you were so happy to be joining the Sages... and you had so many plans to make the world better and I didnât want to ask you to stay. But now Iâm afraid if I donât ask.. Iâm gonna regret that decision once itâs too late.âÂ
Thereâs a pause where Zuko is reaching into his bag. Genji thinks about saying something but her breath catches in her throat when he pulls out a box.Â
âIâm ready to offer you a life of love and happiness, if youâll stay here with me.â
Then he opens the box and itâs a betrothal necklace.Â
Genjiâs eyes are wide and she regains the use of her tongue. âWHAT?! Zuko, you know thatâs a betrothal necklace right?! Are you serious?! Am I dreaming?! WHAT?!âÂ
Zuko looks her in the eyes and says. âI am serious. I love you.â
Genji is still sputtering a million thoughts running through her head. âBut-i engaged?! Then Iâd be Fire Lady?!â
A Sage knocks on her door. âGenji, are you alright? I heard yelling.â
She puts a hand over Zukoâs mouth and calls. âYeah! Sorry for waking you. Bad dreams.âÂ
Zuko kisses her hand and whispers âYouâd be a perfect Fire Lady.â
âYou couldnât have asked at a worse time!â she whisper-yells âIâm supposed to go back to Crescent Moon Temple tomorrow and say my oaths!âÂ
âWell, I couldnât have asked you in a letter!â Zuko says and she shushes him. Zukoâs eyes become worried. âDo you not love me?â
âOf course I love you,â Genji says immediately.Â
âThen donât become a Fire Sage. Marry me.âÂ
âItâs not that simple, Zuko!âÂ
Zuko only leaves at the promise that Genji will give him an answer after sheâs slept. But once heâs gone Genji only paces in her room until the sun comes up.
She does her morning chores clearly distracted. The other Sages notice the bags under her eyes. At breakfast she barely touches her food.Â
âEat up, youâll need your strength for our journey.âÂ
Genji looks at Shyu and says âActually, I canât go back to Crescent Moon Island.âÂ
All of the Sages look shocked. One shouting âWhat do you mean you canât?!â
She gulps â...Iâm engaged to Fire Lord Zuko.âÂ
A look of anger crosses all of the Sages faces except for Shyu who smiles and says âThatâs wonderful news!âÂ
Genji does her best to act tough while sheâs being kept prisoner.Â
But when the Dai Lee put her on a ship, she knows sheâs going to the Boiling Rock.Â
She tries escaping of course, but sheâs heavily guarded.Â
She has nightmares every night and has trouble eating because sheâs so terrified.Â
But she makes herself eat because she needs her strength if sheâs gonna get through this.Â
Upon Azulaâs request sheâs treated worse than the majority of the other prisoners.Â
They leave her in the cooler for hours each day, and encase her hands in metal afterwards so it's harder to warm herself.Â
Solitary confinement. So she has no idea who else is at the prison.Â
Itâs been a few weeks since sheâs seen the sun.Â
Everything that happened with Zuko during the first half of season 3 still happened.Â
Yes, including everything with Mei. Not to cheapen Zukoâs relationship with Mei or to make him out to be a player or anything.
But Zuko genuinely liked Mei before he was banished and he still likes her when he sees her again. (Heâs a teenager. Heâs allowed.)
When he told Sokka about the Boiling Rock, he knew Sokka would try to go. And one of the reasons he was so willing to go with him is because he suspected Genji would be there. (He never really asked because he knew it would only make him feel worse).
The fact that Zuko even saw her was a well timed coincidence.
It was while he was still dressed as a guard. Two real guards were leading her from the cooler back to her cell.Â
She was pale, her lips blue, and she was shaking as she walked.Â
Zuko had been staring as he walked past. Just wrapping his mind around the fact that heâs the reason she was there.
The other guards caught him staring so he had to keep walking. But he circled back after he got his hands on a key ring and brought Sokka to be the lookout.Â
When he went into her room she was huddled into a corner, blowing pitiful puffs of fire onto her cuffs.Â
When he came into the room she had a deer in the headlights look about her. She thought she had been caught and that he was going to take her back into the cooler. She was so cold that words didnât leave her mouth.
When he kneeled in front of her and started unlocking her cuffs her fear turned into confusion.Â
âGenji,â
She recognized his voice. It showed in the immediate fury that came into her eyes. As soon as her hands were free she punched him in the jaw.Â
Zuko reeled back and she produced an orb of blue fire that warmed her hands in seconds then began rubbing her hands against her face.Â
Zuko removed the helmet and held his jaw, âI guess I deserved that. I know I messed up.â
âUn-under-s-s-statement.â Genji stammered.Â
âI donât expect you to forgive me. But I am gonna get you out of here.â
Genji took in a deep breath through her mouth then let it out her nose producing smoke. The color slowly returned to her face.Â
Zuko starts explaining that heâs been traveling with the avatar and came with one of the avatarâs watertribe friends. Heâs surprised when Genji goes âYou mean Sokka? Iâve met him.âÂ
There was a knock on the door and Zuko put his helmet back on promising to come back for her.Â
Genji tells him to lock her in her cuffs again so not to raise suspicion. Then says. âBe careful. Okay?â
âYou don't hate me?"
"Oh no. I hate youâŠ. but I still need you to be okay.â
When Sokka later let's everyone out of their jail cell Genji bolts out.
She runs into Sokka, Suki and Zuko.
Sokka looks at her in surprise.
"Hey! You're that Earth Kingdom girl."Â
She lets out a laugh. "Not exactly."Â
When they get to the courtyard Genji feels the sun for the first time in weeks. She takes it in for a minute and then blows the cuffs off her hands. Sokka yells in surprise.Â
"Wait! You were a firebender!?"Â
Having another firebender during the escape proves to be very useful.Â
Including the fight on top of the gondola.
Suki fights Ty Lee while Genji fights Azula.Â
Genji and Azula are fairly evenly matched.Â
They are both very precise firebenders. Azula is a lot more agile and quick meanwhile Genji is more rooted and observant (something she learned from all her time in the Earth Kingdom).Â
The fight ends because Azula and Ty Lee think the guards will cut the line.
Then everyone in the raft sees Mei stop the guards.Â
Sokka: "So⊠Zuko has two girlfriends?"Â
Genji *joking* :"It sure looks that way."Â
Zuko gets really flustered at that.Â
On the way back to the western air temple the people in the balloon share stories about what they've all been through.
Sokka and Suki are surprised at Genji's story and it makes them like, "wow, there are other fire benders that have souls???"Â
Eventually Genji asks everyone what they want to do after the war. Most of them just want to go to their homes and live peaceful lives.Â
Genji shares that she wants to become a Fire Sage because she believes from there she can ensure the Fire Nation government doesn't try to throw off the balance again.
Zuko is surprised by this. Fire sageâs live a very pious lifestyle (like monks).
He tries to meet her eyes but sheâs giving him the cold shoulder.Â
Zuko understands itâs his fault for getting her arrested and tries to think of ways he can regain her trust.Â
But when they get back to the Gaangâs camp (while Hakoda and Katara have their big reunion) Genji asks Zuko to walk with her.Â
Genji: âBeing from the Fire Nation gave us a messed up sense of morality. Iâve done things I wish I could take back, so itâs not fair for me to hold anything against you.â she takes his hand âLetâs just work together to make it right. Okay?â
So Genjiâs in Gaang now!Â
Which is a little weird since they donât really know her. Katara doesnât like her at first because sheâs a friend of Zukoâs and Katara still hates Zuko at this point.Â
Then when Zuko is going to take Katara to meet the man who took her mom, Genji sides with Aang saying that she should forgive. This kind of increases Katara's dislike for her.Â
But Genji quickly becomes a key contributor. "I'll help cook dinner." "I can help clean." "Do we need disguises? I can go out and buy clothes."Â
Zuko let's her take over firebending lessons.Â
Aang: "Can you teach me to bend white fire like you?" He asks excitedly.Â
"That depends, do you want to do hours worth of breathing exercises each day?"Â
Genji demonstrates for him the levels of heat intensity for fire bending. She then explains that just producing a blue flame takes months of intense meditation. Getting in the mental space that your fire is consistently hot takes years.Â
Learning from Genji, Aang realizes how Zuko was able to explain the basics so well. Genji is just a natural teacher.
Genji will correct Aang's form by touching him. Which Aang thought was weird because they don't really know each other. But Genji is very nonchalant about it.Â
Genji *Patting his knee*: "bend this more"
Genji *Touching his shoulders* "relax them. This isn't earth bending."Â
However, Aang notices it's different when Genji corrects Zuko. Genjiâs touches linger a little bit longer and Zukoâs entire face will grow red.
She teaches them both how to control their fire so it only reaches the points they want it to and not spreading carelessly.Â
During this lesson Sokka makes a comment about jerk bending. Genji punches a flame towards Sokka that ends just a foot away from his face. He screams.Â
Genji turns to Zuko and Aang, "You see? Sokka is not on fire at all. That's the kind of control you want-"
"YOU COULD'VE KILLED ME!"
"Yes. And don't forget that."
Overall she helps Zuko get from intermediate to advanced level and Aang from a beginning level to a solid intermediate.
Out of the Gaang she gets along with Toph and Suki the best.Â
With Toph they have similar senses of humor, so they team up against Sokka a lot.Â
They both have a huge respect for each other's bending ability so they like to spar too.Â
Genji teaches both Toph how to pick up on fire bender's tricks and defend against them better.Â
Genji: "Fire bending is all in the breath. If you can pick up on when they're breathing or how long they're holding a breath you can anticipate where the fire's gonna go."Â
Meanwhile since both she and Suki spent a lot of time traveling around the Earth Kingdom and were in the same prison, they have a natural understanding of each other.Â
Similar things will trigger memories for them and they can look at each other and appreciate that they're not the only one feeling this way.Â
Will often team up to do chores together and drag Toph along to help.
But what yaâll really care about is her relationship with Zuko. So Iâll talk about that more.Â
They take a lot of walks together and just process what the warâs done to them and the kind of people they want to be.Â
Genji gets really cold at night (party from her time at the Boiling Rock). One night Zuko notices her shivering so he shares his blanket with her.Â
Genjiâs a rare person in Zukoâs life that can get him to laugh or take breaks with the rest of the group.Â
Genji: âRace you to the top of that tree?â
Zuko: âGenji, Iâm not a child. Thereâs no way Iâm climbing-â
Genji: âand⊠go!â she takes off running and Zuko immediately starts running after her.Â
Genji tells the Gaang stories from when her and Zuko were younger.Â
Even though the rest of the group sees they like each other theyâve agreed to be just friends.Â
Because Zuko still has a lot of unresolved feelings for Mei.Â
Also Genji wants to be a Fire Sage and being in a relationship isnât conducive to that type of life.Â
So, theyâre just friends.Â
Even though thereâs definitely been a few kisses. (at least four caught up in the moment type pecks)
But they donât talk about those.Â
Genji goes with the Gaang to see the Ember Island play. She finds it all ridiculously funny and Zuko canât help but snicker because her laugh is infectious to him.Â
The ending catches everyone off guard but Genji is very triggered by it.Â
She starts sobbing. The rest of the Gaang leave their seats (because they donât want to draw attention to themselves). But Zuko stays with her, holding her hand until she calms down.Â
Sozinâs comet approaches. Zuko knows he has to face Azula. He first thinks to ask Genji to go with him but Genji wants to join Sokka, Toph, and Suki to stop the air raid.Â
Genji: âYou donât need me, Zuzu. Youâre ready for this.âÂ
So Zuko asks Katara to go with him.Â
Zuko and Genji share a hug that lasts a little too long.Â
The next time they see each other the war is won.Â
Zuko has a scar on his chest. Genji has a few burns on her arms that will be there for the rest of her life.Â
But theyâre both alive and they both work for the rest of their lives to make the Fire Nation a better place.Â
Thereâs gonna be one more part. Iâll leave the link for it here.

Part 5-Â Birthday Presents Through The Years
For the purposes of the headcanons Iâm gonna guess Lukeâs birthday is sometime in early September.Â
Bridgettâs Birthday is mid-November
On Lukeâs fifteenth birthday, Bridgett is one of the first people to say something about it.Â
He was at the bus stop when Bobby and Bridgett came.Â
She walked up to him with a soft smile holding out something wrapped in a brown paper bag and a plastic bow on top. Bridgett: âHappy birthday, Luke!âÂ
Luke: âYou got me a present?â It surprised him because he hadnât known her and Bobby for that long, and he didnât remember bringing it up.Â
She shrugged. âItâs not a big deal. They were cheap.â
He opens it and itâs a stack of CDs from the music storeâs Up nâ Coming Artists section.Â
The bands are Blink182, Dahlia Seed, Disciple, Built to Spill, and Ash.Â
Bridgett: âI donât like all of them. But they were all signed this year, and theyâre pretty different from each other. It might help you find what kind of sound you like for the band.â
Immediately after school Luke shuts his door and listens to all the CDs back to backÂ
Which takes him like five hours. His mom at one point checks in on him to see if heâs okay because he didnât come down for dinner âiâM fInE, mOm! iâLl Be DoWn In A mInUtE.â
The next day at the bus stop Luke and Bridgett talk about them.Â
They donât like the same ones (Luke likes Blink 182 which was Bridgettâs least favorite of the five) but the conversation lasts all the way to school.Â
For Bridgettâs 14th birthday Luke has to run to catch the bus before it leaves without him.Â
He was late because he was wrapping her gift.Â
So, he comes onto the bus, sweaty from running but then locks eyes with her and gives an excited smile. âHappy birthday, Bridgett!âÂ
He takes the seat in front of her before taking the gift out of his bookbag.Â
Itâs sloppily wrapped in that colorful and slightly reflective wrapping paper, but Luke looks very proud of himself as he hands it to her.
Bridgett unwraps the package and itâs a Blink-182 shirt. She looks at Luke who still has that goofy smile on his face. Bridgett:Â âWow. I will not be wearing this.â
Luke: âYou should really look at the shirt before judging it!âÂ
She lifts the shirt to get a better look at the design and a black leather cuff bracelet rolls onto her lap. Bridgettâs face lights up. âThis is so cool!âÂ
Bridgett immediately puts it on. She wears it to school every day.Â
On Luke's 16th birthday the band was sitting together at lunch.Â
They each had gotten Luke gifts (a beanie, a new songwriting book, a brownie).Â
But honestly, Luke was bummed because his parents had said theyâd get him a car if he got his grades up (and the grades did not go up).
Bridgett came to the table and set down a square box the size of her chest, the wrapping paper had balloons on it and a plastic bow on top.Â
Reggie: âHey! Quit showing us up!âÂ
Luke tears into the wrapping paper and the picture on the side of the box is for a giant Hot Wheels car. Everyone at the table starts laughing.Â
Luke thinks thatâs really his gift. Itâs only until he takes it home that he actually opens it and sees itâs a really cool denim jacket.Â
He tries to wear it to school the next day but his mom yells at him. âItâs too hot outside for that jacket! Youâll get heatstroke!âÂ
Bridgettâs 15th birthday is the same day as their first club gig.Â
So the band is so pumped for the gig, that Bridgett's birthday flies under their radar.Â
They're at school, talking before class and a random passerby tells Bridgett happy birthday.Â
Cue all of the guys having an "oh no" look on their faces and then going into a huddle.Â
Luke: "Guys! We totally forgot today's her birthday."
Reggie: "I thought her birthday was on Friday."Â
Alex: "Today is Friday!"Â
Reggie: "Oh, right. Dang it!"Â
Luke: "Bobby, how did you forget?! She's your sister!"Â
Bridgett is literally standing right there and finds it funny that theyâre acting like she isnât.Â
Luke is the first to come out of the huddle and he looks so ashamed of himself. "Bridgett, I'm so sorry. With the gig⊠I completely forgot your birthday."Â
She's genuinely confused by how sad Luke looks. She gives him a smile. "You don't have to be sorry. It's not a big deal."Â
The gang admits that they all forgot and is surprised by how little Bridgett cares. "Seriously, I know how big this gig is for you guys. So don't worry about it."
But Luke totally worries about it.
The bell rings and Bridgett goes to class.Â
Luke turns to the guys and convinces them to skip class to shop for birthday gifts. Which takes a lot of convincing for Alex (who never skips) and Bobby (who just doesn't want to).Â
Bobby: "she said not to worry about it."Â
Luke: "Dude, c'mon!"Â
So they all go to the mall. They kinda run around like chickens with their heads cut off.
Alex has the idea to get her balloons to put in her locker.Â
Reggie gets her a Doodle Bear as a joke.Â
Bobby gets her a vintage Runaways poster.Â
Luke sees a record player and is like, "this is the perfect gift for her."Â
But then Luke realizes he only has 6 dollars to his name.
So, he chips in on Bobby's gift.Â
Luke kinda kicks himself for dropping the ball on this birthday.Â
Fast forward to the gig.Â
Bridgett is there because she's their roadie.Â
Sunset Curve is playing a great set. The crowd is really into it.
Midway through their set Luke has the whole club sing happy birthday for Bridgett. Â
After they do that each band member says a few words.Â
Alex: "Bridgett, you're a great roadie and an even better friend."
Reggie: "You're the funniest person I know. It's always a good time when you're around."
Bobby: "You're a spoiled brat. But I love you, sis."
Luke's eyes meet Bridget's from onstage and she's smiling: "You're just...incredible, Bridgett. Happy birthday."Â
They way Luke says it fills her stomach with butterflies and she puts her hands over her cheeks to try to stop blushing.
After the gig they go to a 24-hour diner for milkshakes.Â
Bobby buys Bridget's shake (and after some puppy dog eyes, buys Luke's milkshake).Â
At the diner they give her the Doodle Bear and the poster.Â
But they stay at the diner until well passed midnight just laughing together.Â
Bridgett thinks it's her best birthday yet.
Luke's 17th birthday is his first one he doesnât spend with his his parents.Â
So Bridgett's mom had the idea to make him chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast.Â
She made both Bridgett and Bobby get up early in order to make them.Â
At the breakfast table Luke has a huge stack of pancakes with whipped cream. Meanwhile Bobby and Bridgett are covered in flour as they eat cereal.
Luke thanks them all for the pancakes but his eyes linger on Bridgett.Â
Her mom definitely picks up on this and lowkey ships them.Â
Bridgett and Luke both have a shift at the music store that day. Â
As soon as they walk in Luke sees that the blue electric guitar he'd been in love with is gone.
Luke: "Someone bought my baby?!"Â
Bridgett casually: "Yeah. They took it off the wall before closing yesterday..."Â
Luke is kinda bummed.Â
But it's a slow day at the music store. He and Bridgett goof off for most of the day and it cheers him up.
After work Luke goes into the garage and on the couch is the blue guitar with a plastic ribbon on it.Â
Luke runs out of the garage and into the house. Bridgett is in kitchen looking in the fridge and Luke gives her a hug.
Luke: "I can't believe you got me that guitar."Â
Bridgett starts blushing because his face is in her hair and his arms are around her waist and it feels romantic.
She tries to sound casual to detract from the fact that her heart is hammering in her chest.Â
Bridgett: "It's not a big deal. My parents chipped in too-"
"No. It is a big deal." Luke had pulled away just enough to look into her eyes.Â
In that moment their faces are really close. And both their eyes widen because they both are like are we about to kiss?Â
But then Bobby walks in the room.Â
Luke and Bridgett decide to walk about the kitchen as if nothing just happened.
Bobby looks both extremely annoyed and grossed out but ultimately doesn't say anything.Â
Bridgett and Luke never get the chance to talk about what happened because Bobby gets all over protective hovers around them whenever they hang out.Â
But the pining tension increases.Â
Hands brushing when their stacking CDs at work, sitting closer together during family movie night, always meeting each otherâs eyes from across the room.
Sometimes Luke will show up at the school when he knows it's Bridgett's lunch period and they'll hang out outside.Â
This goes on until Bridgett's 16th birthday comes around.Â
It's a Saturday so Bridgett rolls out of bed at around noon.Â
When she gets to the living room Luke jumps up excitedly. "Hey! Happy birthday!" And he shoves an envelope at her.Â
She finds his enthusiasm about a card a little weird. "Thank you." She says and opens the envelope.Â
But instead of a card it's two tickets to see Joan Jett & The Blackhearts in concert in San Diego.Â
Bridgett starts freaking out. "Am I dreaming?! Are these real?! You got these for me?!"Â
She's so excited that she tackles him in a hug and he spins her.Â
Bobby walks in, sees them hugging, and asks what's going on. Bridgett shows him the tickets and he's like "San Diego? No way are Mom and Dad gonna let you go."Â Â
Bridgett's face falls, Luke sees this and touches her arm.Â
Luke: "Don't sweat it. I already asked your parents and they said it was alright."Â
Bobby is surprised and a little impressed "You asked our parents if you could take Bridgett on a date?!"Â
Bridgett says to Bobby "It's just a birthday present. He doesn't mean for it to be a date."Â
But Luke quickly corrects her, "No, I want it to be a date."Â
Bridgett's eyes widen because she's like what? Luke actually wants to go on a date with me??Â
Luke looks at her nervously: "Do you not want it to be a date?"
Bridgett: "I don't know." She looks at Bobby "I don't want to make things weird with you and the bandâŠ"
Luke sighs because he knows that Bobby is gonna be against it.
But Bobby surprises them both by saying, "You guys already stare at each other when you think no oneâs looking. You may as well go on a date."

Part 4- When Luke Runs Away From Home
Luke's parents have mixed feelings about Bridgett. On one hand, whenever she's around Luke is actually doing school work. But on the other hand she's clearly a punk by how she dresses. And they donât want to encourage his affinity for rock nâ roll.Â
But she's always super sweet to them so they keep their concerns to themselves..Â
One day when Luke and Bridgett are studying, he gets frustrated and says "I'm never gonna get this! I'm just stupid!"Â
Bridgett is quick to say, "Woah, wait a sec. You are not stupid! This is chemistry. Unless you go into science you'll never use this stuff again."Â
Luke: "It's not just chemistry! I'm close to failing algebra, government, and english."Â
Bridgett: "Some people's brains are wired differently so it makes school harder. That doesnât mean you're stupid. Most people donât use the stuff they learn in high school. We just learn it to help figure out what we want to do with the rest of our lives. You know that you want to play music and you're so good at it! Not just writing lyrics but actually writing how instruments go together. Do you realize how smart and talented you have to be to do that?"
As she's talking she takes his hand and Luke's heart swells. They're looking into each other's eyes. "Donât beat yourself up about being bad at school. You just gotta do your best to get through it so you can focus on what you really want."Â
The next day Luke visits her while sheâs working at the music store and says: "I thought alot about what you said, and I've decided I'm dropping out of school."Â
Bridgett "YOU ARE WHAT?!" "You're joking!" "I never told you to do that!"Â
Luke explains to her that he feels like he can never do anything right at school and that he wants to focus on what he knows he's good at.
Bridgett doesnât think he should quit school but tells him that she believes he can do whatever he sets his mind to.
This talk gives Luke the push he needs to talk to his parents. But the talk leads to a big argument.
One of the main things that sets him off is that his parents think he's been around too many "bad influences".
His mom brings Bridgett up as an example and he gets super defensive. "How can you say that?! She's one of the only people who believes in me!"
Luke runs away and the first place he goes is Bridgett and Bobby's house. Their parents let Luke stay in their garage (the bandâs studio). On a couple of conditions.
Bridgett and Luke canât ever be alone in the otherâs âroomâ.
Also  he has to pull his own weight. (Do chores, help pay for groceries)
So Luke gets a job at the same music store as Bridgett and they spend even more time together.
He works the register and typically Bridgett fixes instruments in the back but sheâs been there for a while so she knows how to everything.
Bridgett is the one who trains Luke. She shows him how to work the register.
Luke actually already knows how to work a cash register but he plays dumb so he has an excuse to stand close to her.
Stocking CDs together (because people always move them out of alphabetical order). Â
Whenever a customer has a question he canât answer he says âOne sec. Let me ask the smartest person in the world.â Then he asks Bridgett.
Thereâs a dark blue electric guitar in the store that Luke calls his baby. (But itâs very expensive so he canât buy it).Â
Whenever customers seem interested in it, he convinces them to get something cheaper. He convinces Bridgett to do the same thing. It drives the owner crazy.
Since they now live in the same house they see each other's bed head, and get to know the other's pet peeves or gross habits.
Luke always leaves dirty dishes or empty chip bags around the living room and Bridgett takes forever in the bathroom.
The family usually eats dinner, watches movies, and plays board games together. And they include Luke in these activities now.
Much to Bridgettâs horror, her mom tells Luke a few stories from when she was a toddler.
Bridgett doesnât like nick-names. But her mom and dad call her Bj.
Luke asks her why they call her that and she explains that itâs her first and middle name Bridgett June.
Luke: âCan I call you Bj?â
If it were any other person she would say no. But because itâs Luke she says yes.
Luke and Bobby also grow into a sibling dynamic. Luke becomes the annoying younger brother to Bobby which is where he starts giving him wet willie's and pulling pranks on him while he sleeps.
Sometimes Bobby tricks Luke so that Bridgett gets caught in the middle of a prank.
For example there was one time during breakfast Luke had put an egg in a spoon and was threatening to fling it at Bobby.
Bobby: âYouâre an idiot. Thereâs no way it will even reach me.â
Luke: âWanna put some money on that?â
Bobby: âSure. Ten bucks.â
So Luke gets ready to launch and Bobby notices Bridgett coming downstairs, her hair still wet from the shower.
Bobby: âHey, Bridgett. Can you come here for a second?â
Bridgett: âWhatâs up?â
Luke realizes what Bobby did a second too late. The egg has been launched and it flies directly in the back of Bridgettâs head.
âOW!â She stagers forward a bit, Â
Bobby starts laughing hysterically.
Meanwhile a mortified Luke runs upto Bridgett. âI am so sorry! Are you okay?â
She puts a hand to the back of her head and immediately freaks out because she touched the slimey yoke.
Bridgett âEW! Did you throw an egg at me?!â
âI didnât mean to throw it at you! I meant to-â
Bobbyâs laughter gets louder.
Bridgett yells âCan you grow up?!â and storms off to wash her hair again. Luke isnât sure if she was yelling at Bobby or him. He sinks into a shair with a sad expression on his face because he thinks Bridgett is genuinely angry at him.
Bobby: âYou owe me ten bucks.â
They both start to worry the other only sees them as a sibling.
This is very useful and important. Also I almost called the cops by accident once while not paying attention and anxiously stimming with the buttons on my phone
Zuko and his uncle had been on the ferry going into Ba Sing Se. The same ferry where he met Jet and his freedom fighters and they stole the good food from the captain. That ferry.
So, Zuko and Jet were handing out food to the other refugees. When he hears a familiar voice say âWow. This looks so good.âÂ
Zuko immediately stops what heâs doing and turns to see Genji, accepting a box of food from Jet. Her hair is cut short and she has a few cuts on her face. But itâs definitely her. And his uncle is sitting right next to her!Â
Genji mustâve felt his gaze because they lock eyes for a minute.Â
Zuko turns back around, deciding heâs going to ignore her. But he hears Jet go, âWhatâs your name?â and she says, âMy nameâs Suzette⊠but my friends call me Zuzu.âÂ
Zuko fumes and stomps over to Jet making up some excuse about how his friends are looking for him so heâll go away.Â
Once Zuko is sure the boy is out of earshot he glares at Genji. âWhy are you here?!âÂ
âIâm a refugee. Just like you and your uncle.â she says sarcastically.
Iroh stops the conversation from going further since thereâs a bunch of people around.
There are some kids on the ferry that are getting restless, so Iroh decides to sing some songs for them. Genji joins him, even dancing with a few of the young kids. Some adults get into the dancing as well.
Theyâre all old Earth Kingdom songs so Zuko doesnât recognize any of them. But he finds himself caught up in Genjiâs smile as she sings.
Donât fall in love with the traveling girl~, sheâll leave you broke and broken hearted~
Thereâs a moment where Genji and Jet share a dance and Zuko tells himself heâs not jealous.Â
Later in the night when nearly everyone is asleep he goes over to a bundle of blankets in the shape of Genji and asks, âWhy didnât you tell me you were Zhaoâs prisoner?âÂ
She doesnât move but says, âZhao was gonna take me to the Boiling Rock. Iâm not afraid of much. But Iâm afraid of that place. I know youâre loyal to your father⊠and I thought youâd let them arrest me.âÂ
âMaybe I wouldâve. Maybe you deserve that.â
At this, Genji sits up and turns to him. His breath hitches when she looks up at him. âYou hate me, huh?â
âYes.â he says but heâs not at all convincing and takes a seat next to her. They talk about what each of them has been through since they last saw each other.Â
Zuko tells her all about how Zhao almost had him killed, everything that happened at the north pole, and his run-ins with Azula.Â
Genji admits that she's lost her way. While in the colonies she would tear down fire nation statues, set fire to law officials houses or fire nation factories. Sometimes civilians would get hurt and she carries a lot of shame for that. So, she's taking some time in Ba Sing Se to reassess what she should be doing.Â
Zuko: "You're not ashamed for being a traitor?"
Genji: "My dad was a spy. My mom was a spy. I was born into the other side of this war. They taught me that there are things you can't watch happen without doing something."
Zuko is surprised because this is the first time he heard of her mother also being a spy.Â
When they land in Ba Sing Se Zuko rejects Jet's offer to join the freedom fighters but Genji asks if she can join. This causes an argument between them.
Zuko, pulling Genji away from the group. "What are you doing?!"Â
Genji: "What? They want to help people in the outer ring."
Zuko: "You're going to get yourself in trouble. If you want to get yourself caught, go ahead, but you're not gonna drag me or my uncle into your mess."Â
"Fine." She says stubbornly and walks back over to Jets group.Â
But Genji quickly abandons the freedom fighters when she realizes Jet is crazy..Â
She gets a job delivering mail which lets her travel inbetween the rings of Ba SIng Se. She visits Iroh and Zuko at their tea shop but each time she comes around Zuko ignores her.Â
During this time, she briefly meets team Avatar and helps them with odd tasks (finding information about the black market, getting messages outside the city, ect).Â
One day sheâs visiting the tea shop and Iroh tells her Zuko is sick.Â
She makes up an excuse with her job to miss a few days. She helps Iroh with looking after the shop and also taking care of Zuko.
Sheâs in the room when he comes to and overhears Iroh telling Zuko that heâs going through a âmetamorphosisâ.Â
Genji tells Iroh she should leave so she doesnât cause Zuko anymore stress. But Zuko, overhearing this, asks for Genji to stay.
She holds his hand as he sleeps using her other hand whip the sweat off his face.
But eventually Genji does go back to work.Â
When she comes back Zuko is chipper and happy. Genji is at first unnerved by his change in attitude but when she realizes how genuinely happy he is she becomes happy for him.Â
He asks to spend more time with her, so they start going on walks between their shifts.Â
They talk about their days with their fingers laced together. Zuko starts to think âMaybe this is okay. A life like this isnât bad at all.âÂ
Then the next night, heâs asleep but wakes when he hears Genji calling his name from outside. He goes out behind his apartment rubbing the sleep from his eye.Â
âWhatâs going on?â
âI wanted to say goodbye.â she said and he noticed she had a bag on her shoulder. âIâm taking the ferry tomorrow. I know youâre serving tea to the Earth King and I didnât know if Iâd see you before then.â
âLeaving?! Why? Where are you going?â
âIâm going to join the Earth Kingdom army⊠If theyâll have me.â she added. Zuko blinks as if deciding if sheâs serious and then says.Â
âThat is the stupidest thing Iâve ever heard!â
âIâve gotta do something more to help. Iâm not doing anything here.â she says evenly trying to get him to lower his volume. But heâs not having it.Â
âYou donât have to do anything!â Zuko yells out in frustration âUncle always tells me that I need to determine for myself what I want and not just blindly follow what other people tell me is my destiny. Just because your parents were spies doesnât mean you have to go against the Fire Nation!â
âMy parents set me on a path.â Genji conceded âBut thatâs not why Iâm doing this. Iâm going to fight because I want to. Because I believe itâs right.â
âYou could die!â Genji looks indifferent and Zukoâs eyes fill with anger âSo thatâs it?! You donât care what I say. Youâre gonna leave anyway?!â
Genji doesnât say anything and Zuko turns to go back into the apartment.Â
âPlease donât hate me.â she pleads. Zuko stops in his tracks but doesnât turn back around. He gathers his strength to go back into the building slamming the door behind him.Â
The next day is an eventful one. He teamed up with Azula. She blasted the Avatar while he was in the Avatar state. The Dai Lee arrested his uncle. But it doesnât stop there!Â
Because Zuko knew that if Genji joined the Earth Kingdom army, theyâd be in trouble. So, he told Azula she was on the ferry.Â
Azula sent 10 Dai Lee agents to arrest her.Â
It did take all 10 of them to do it.Â
They brought her back to the Earth Kingâs palace, where Azula was sitting on the throne and Zuko was standing next to her.Â
The rock gloves were over her mouth and encasing her hands. They made her kneel in front of Azula.
Azula: âI wish I could say it was good to see you again.â
When Genji saw Zuko surprise and then anger came over her face.Â
Azula: âYou look like you have something to say.â The princess nodded to one of the agents who lowered the rocks from her mouth.Â
Genji let out a guttural scream, fire shooting out of her mouth, and the rocks on her hands exploding. The other nine agents in the room made quick work covering her mouth again and encasing both of her arms in rock.Â
Azula looked unamused at the stunt and talked as if speaking to a toddler âWhat am I supposed to do with you?â
Genji let out an angry breath through her nose and smoke came out.Â
âI should have you killed. But you clearly donât care about your life. If you did, you wouldnât have betrayed the Fire Nation in the first place. So how do I punish someone with no fear?â
There was a moment of quiet as Azula thought. Then Zuko spoke up.Â
âShe is afraid. Sheâs afraid of a world where Fire Nation wins the war.â he talks to Azula as if Genji isnât even in the room. âThe right punishment would be to make her live to see it happen.âÂ
Edit: in case itâs not 100% obvious. Zuko said that not to be cruel, but because it was a way to make sure Azula didnât kill her. (Because even though Zuko messed up. He just wants to please his dad he doesnât want Genji to be hurt.)
Azulaâs smile was sinister as she looked back at Genji.Â
âYouâre so right, Zuko. And I know the perfect place for her to sit and rot.â
Zuko had recently defeated commander Zhao in an Agni Kai and his ship was on a course following the avatar. The prince was eating with his uncle when a guard came into their quarters saying, âPrince Zuko. Weâve just apprehended a stow away.â
Iroh: âA stow away? How did they get on board?!â
Guard: âWeâre not sure. She was found going through food in the kitchens. We locked her in a room on the lower deck.âÂ
So, the guard takes them to see the stow away and itâs Genji!
Her hands are behind her back as if they were cuffed. Sheâs in Earth Kingdom clothes and sheâs covered in coal dust but Zuko still immediately recognizes her. Meanwhile, she clearly doesnât recognize Zuko because sheâs giving him a menacing glare.
Zuko: âGenji?! Wh-how did you-? What are you doing here?!â
She recognizes his voice and her eyes widen. âZuzu?!â She stood and reached her hands out to him. âWhat happened to your eye?â
âHEY! How did you get out of your restraints?!â the guard barked. Genjiâs eyes widened in realization and she gave a guilty smile. âUm.. they were too tight?â Zuko sighed. Iroh noticed the cuffs were on the ground, busted, and orange with heat. Â
âLeave us. Iâll deal with her.â Zuko said to both the guard and his uncle. He closed the door once they were alone.Â
Zuko interrogates her and she confesses that she didnât know it was his ship she was sneaking on. The entire time they talk Genji is trying to ask him questions. But Zuko remains cold and demands answers from her.Â
âWhy arenât you at the palace? What happened?â
âYouâre on my ship! Iâll be asking the questions!âÂ
After a minute of this, Genji gets fed up. âFine! If youâre gonna be that way, then Iâm not telling you anything!âÂ
âYes you are!â
Genji gives him the silent treatment and Zuko gets angry and yells out a few threats. âFine! Donât tell me anything! You can rot in jail like your father for all I care!â
Genjiâs eyes become sad because this isnât the Zuko she remembers at all.Â
As Zuko looks at her he realizes that he went too far but instead of apologizing he gets frustrated. The flames in the torches on the wall get bigger and he storms out of the room.Â
A few minutes later Iroh comes into the room with a tray of food and some tea for her.Â
Iroh brings her food for a couple of days. One time when Zuko is looking for his uncle he finds him in the room Genji is âimprisonedâ in and theyâre playing pai sho and laughing like old friends. (Her dad taught her the secret White Lotus way to play).
âUncle! You canât just sit around playing games with the prisoner! Sheâs a dangerous firebender!â
This seems to peak Irohâs interest. âIs she? Thank you for the warning, Prince Zuko.â
The next time Zuko comes on the deck for a fire bending lesson Genji is standing beside Iroh in training clothes and her hair tied up. Iroh âSay hello to your new fire bending instructor!â
Zuko is against this idea but Iroh doesnât give him a choice.Â
Even though Zuko is a lot more stubborn and temperamental than he used to be, he falls back into his old routine with Genji easily.Â
She has a way of explaining things that makes sense to him.Â
There are times when heâll explode. âTEACH ME THE NEXT SET!â and Genji will just say, âIf you canât get this set right, then youâll just get the next set wrong, and your fire bending will be weak because of it.â That gets him to shut up and focus.Â
Thereâs also the times Genji will touch him to correct his stance. This time Genji notices how he blushes and starts blushing too. âIf you square your hips, it helps with your breath control.â âR-right.âÂ
Zuko and Iroh let her roam around the ship while theyâre at see. Because of this she sees the majority of Zukoâs tantrums angry fits first hand.Â
She knows theyâre tracking the avatar, and sometimes sheâll sneak into the captainâs quarters and mess with the map to throw them off course.Â
Genji is on deck when Iroh tells the story of how Zuko got his scar.Â
One night Zuko comes to Genjiâs room to apologize for yelling at her that first day.Â
Genji hugs him. Itâs the first time heâs been hugged in a long time so he doesnât know how to act.Â
They sit in her room and talk for a long time. He asks her why she ran away. Genji only tells part of her story because she isnât sure if she can trust Zuko yet.Â
She explains that before her dad was imprisoned he told her that the Fire Nation was wrong for bringing about the war, and once he was in jail they would brainwash her to think the war was justified. So she ran away because she didnât think that she had a choice.Â
Zuko gets upset but not in an explosive way. His anger is quieter. âYour dad was wrong. The Fire Nation is going to make the world better.âÂ
Then he added âAnd you couldâve stayed. You didnât do anything wrong. Nothing bad wouldâve happened to you.â
âI know you think that, Zuko. But youâre wrong. I know because you didnât do anything wrong and something bad happened to you.âÂ
Zuko isnât in the headspace to hear that and leaves her room without another word.Â
The next time their ship docks itâs in a Fire Nation colony. They run into admiral Zhao again. Uncle Iroh is making conversation when Zhao says, âa prisoner of mine actually escaped my ship that day we fought.â
Iroh hummed âWhat sort of prisoner?â
âA fire bender disguised in Earth Kingdom clothes. Sheâs wanted in several colonies for inciting rebellions.â
Zuko tries to remain as stone faced as possible during the conversation.Â
When they get back to the ship Zuko immediately goes to Genjiâs room only to find that sheâs gone. He has the guards search the entire ship and sheâs nowhere to be found.Â
Zuko is humiliated. His uncle tries to get him to talk about it, but Zuko pretends she never existed. He instead focuses on tracking down the avatar.Â
I call her Genji but if you want to pretend sheâs you just pretend Genji is Y/N, her is your, and she is you.Â
Genjiâs dad is Zuko and Azulaâs firebending teacher.Â
At around 8 years old she starts coming to the palace for the prince and princessâ private lessons..Â
Her firebending is very advanced for her age so to act as motivation for the two, her dad has her demonstrate a few advanced drills.Â
Itâs the first time either Zuko or Azula see someone bend blue fire. Azula is staring at the fire in wonder the entire time while Zuko canât take his eyes off of her face which is completely serene.
Afterwards Genjiâs dad asks if they have any questions. Azula asks questions while Zuko continues to just stare at Genji. She catches his stare and gives him an awkward smile, and Zukoâs face immediately turns red.
Zukoâs never had a crush before so he doesnât know how to be subtle.Â
While Zuko is Genjiâs age and the older of the two, he isnât as good at firebending as Azula.
Azula is focused and picks up on things easily.  Â
Zuko on the other hand is easily distracted. This causes Genjiâs dad to insist she spend more time with the prince in order to help him understand.Â
Whenever she explains something to Zuko she has his complete and utter attention.Â
He wants to impress her, so he hangs off every word she says.
He doesnât always get the moves quite right but Genjiâs patient and doesn't make him feel inferior just because he works at a different pace.Â
Sometimes sheâll correct his stance by touching him and he gets very flustered.
âYou need to have your palms out like this⊠Prince Zuko? Why is your hand all sweaty?âÂ
Even though Zukoâs crush is obvious to her dad and Azula, Genji is pretty oblivious.Â
She notices he acts strange around her but she just thinks itâs because boys in general are weird.Â
While Genji does more instruction stuff with Zuko, Azula is at a higher level and because of that her and Genji spar. They both love it because neither of them have sparred before so itâs a nice and new challenge.
Genji is easily impressed by Azulaâs progress in firebending.
Outside of training, Azula invites Genji into her circle of friends (with Mei and Ty Lee).Â
The four of them play together.
But one day Genji notices Zuko often spends time by himself and she then decides to talk to him more.Â
âWhy donât you ever play with your sisterâs friends?âÂ
First it takes him a second to respond because sheâs not in her typical training clothes and her hair is down. He stammers when he finds the words to say.Â
â-be- because! Azulaâs annoying. And I donât want to hang around a bunch of girls all the time!âÂ
âSo youâd rather just sit here by yourself?âÂ
He gets embarrassed and wants to yell at her but she sits next to him so he doesnât.Â
The two start to spend a lot of free time together.
They play outside pretty often. Climbing trees, and playing fire nation games that are similar to tag, hide nâ go seek.Â
Zuko is glad to have someone to play with but he still likes Genji so he doesnât get too rough.Â
Genji likes playing with Zuko because neither of them care about getting dirty and the two laugh a bunch.Â
She overhears Azula calling him Zuzu one day and starts calling him that. His entire face becomes red and she thinks sheâs teasing him.Â
But he secretly loves it when she calls him Zuzu because it means theyâre close.Â
One time her dad caught the two climbing a tree and yelled for them to come down. He then proceeded to lecture Genji about how young ladies should behave. She had dirt on her face and leaves in her hair and she couldnât stop snickering which frustrated her dad. The image of her face in that moment is burned into Zukoâs memory. He just thought she was so beautiful at that moment.
Genji loves spending time with Zuko.
But sometimes she wants to hang out with Azulaâs friends playing card games or having a tea party.Â
Whenever this happens Zuko will nervously go to his mom like. âDid I do something wrong? Why doesnât she like me anymore?!âÂ
His mom will laugh and reassure him that he didnât do anything wrong and that Genji is still his friend. âShe just has other friends she wants to spend time with. Iâm sure if you ask, you could all play together.â
But Zuko would rather burn his tongue eating fireflakes than hang out with Azula.Â
Zukoâs mom disappears and his dad becomes the Fire Lord when he and Genji are 12 and Azula is 11. A lot of things change.Â
First is that Genji and her dad move into the palace to instruct the prince and princess full time.Â
Since her friends are now direct lines to the throne none of them can leave the palace.Â
Zukoâs personality changes pretty drastically due to both puberty and depression over his mom leaving.Â
The two donât play games anymore because he just isnât interested.Â
But Genji has âschoolâ with him and Azula (more like private history and math lessons).
Genji lost her mom when she was young so she gets how hard it is for him. When Zuko does talk about what heâs feeling he talks to her but most of the time he closes himself off.Â
Genjiâs moments of hanging out with Azula and her friends become more frequent.
Zuko becomes jealous.
One day when theyâre all playing cards he swallows his pride and decides to sit next to Genji.Â
She smiles when he does âdo you want to play with us, Zuzu?âÂ
Zuko is flustered by the stares from the other girls, but he agrees because he wants to spend time with her.
He only plays a few rounds but then rage quits after Azula beats him too many times. He then settles on watching.Â
Azula is very calculating when she plays while Genji is very carefree. So even though she doesn't win often, she stays smiling and laughing throughout all the games which Zuko really likes.Â
Eventually Zuko gets bored and grabs her hand which is still holding cards. Genji just looks curiously at him.
âWhat is it?â
âI want to go to the library.â he blurts out dumbly.Â
âSo go then.â Azula says with a bored sigh. âNo one's stopping you.âÂ
âShut up!â Zuko snaps.Â
âSheâs right, Zuko. You donât have to stay with us if you donât want to.â Genji says gently âGo ahead and go to the library.âÂ
âBut I want you to come with me,â he says stubbornly. Genji tilts her head in confusion. While Ty Lee squeals in excitement.Â
âOOoh. Zuko wants to be alone with Genji because he likes her!â
Zukoâs face becomes red. âShut up! I do not!â he says quickly.Â
Meanwhile Genji looks at Mei who she knows has a crush on Zuko and she looks really horrified.Â
Genji quickly moves her hands out of his grasp and says âWeâre in the middle of a game, Zuko! Stop being weird!â
âIâm not being weird!â he yelled and then stormed off.Â
Things are tense between them after that.Â
They still see each other during school and fire bending practice but otherwise Zuko completely avoids her.Â
Which sucks because she misses him.Â
And it sucks for him because he misses her. Which he keeps trying to deny. Sometimes he watches her practice firebending with her dad. Because whenever sheâs bending she looks calm and focused unlike the now flustered look she gets whenever she looks at Zuko nowadays.
Thereâs a moment when sheâs bending that her fire turns from blue to white and nearly singes her dad. Her calm turns to shock and soon sheâs jumping up and down and smiling wide. âI DID IT! I DID IT!â She hugs her dad and he spins her around. Thereâs a moment where she sees Zuko but he quickly runs away.
Thatâs actually the last time he sees her. Because the next day he overhears a guard tell his father that Genjiâs dadâs been arrested for smuggling information outside of the palace.Â
The Fire Lord asks where the girl is and if youâve been questioned which doesnât make sense to Zuko because of course sheâs not a traitor. Sheâs just a kid. The guard then tells the Fire Lord that theyâve searched the castle and they canât find her anywhere.
Uncle Iroh moves into the palace and teaches Azula and Zuko firebending after that.
Sometimes something random will remind Zuko of her. Like walking by the tree they used to climb or seeing Azulaâs orange flames turn turn blue. In those moments he wonders where she could be.Â
Headcanons for Luke Pattersonâs Girlfriend from 1995
You can read Part 2 Here
Part 3- Mutual Pining
Warnings: Unintentional emotional cheating under the cut
There wasnât a specific moment that Luke or Bridgett realized they liked each other. They always thought the other was cute and then the feelings developed at the same time they were becoming friends.Â
But Luke never made a move because whenever he would even think about it, Bobby would be right there. âWhy are you staring at my sister?â âYou were sitting close to my sister at lunch.â âWhy were you holding my sisterâs books?!â âYou better not be hitting on my sister!âÂ
âIâm not hitting on your sister!â Luke would always say and then think I canât hit on her with you breathing down my neck!
Also, Bridgett takes some advanced classes and has grabbed the attention of a few upperclassmen. Luke isnât the type to get insecure. But since he knows he canât make a move he doesnât want to get in the way of other guys that would.Â
Meanwhile Bridgett never made a move because since sheâs friends with the band she doesnât want to make it awkward for them by dating Luke (I will not be Yoko!!!!).Â
Also, most of the girls at school are crushing on Luke.Â
Also, sheâs convinced Luke treats her the same as he does every other girl at school.
So, cue the mutual piningÂ
Their freshman year there's a morning announcement about a school dance. And Luke's thinking "I'm gonna ask Bridgett"Â
But Bobby is in the same class and as if reading his mind turns to him and says "you're not asking my sister to that dance"Â
Luke: "What are you talking about?! I wasnât even thinking about asking Bridgett!" đ I hate you
They both end up going with different people to the dance. (Someone asked Bridgett, so Luke asked a girl from his homeroom)
Luke gets jealous but not in a possessive way because he still likes the girl he ended up taking and wants to have a good time. It's more of, he's less energetic than normal and whenever he sees Bridgett with her date he gets a small frown because he's thinking "Does she like him? Did I miss my chance?"Â
At some point during the night Bobby goes to the bathroom and Luke's date is dancing with one of her friends. So, Luke takes the opportunity to ask Bridgett if she'll dance with him. Bridgett asks her date if it's okay before agreeing to it.Â
Their dance isn't to a slow song, so they're dancing next to each other, not really with each other. But during the dance Luke says "You look beautiful." And Bridgett says "You look amazing." They're both blushing and it's the best part of both their nights.
After the dance, Bridgett starts dating the guy that she went to the dance with.
Luke is bummed but goes on to date a few girls.
They both have a couple of healthy romantic relationships during their friendship. But they always have a soft spot for each other.
Itâs an unspoken rule that they donât mention the people they're dating when theyâre around each other.
They remember each otherâs birthdays and get each other presents each year.
Luke will visit Bridget while she's working at the music store.
Bridgett goes over to Lukeâs house to help him study.
Itâs emotional cheating. (which is why the other relationships donât last long).
And when Bridgett breaks up with her boyfriend Luke mysteriously decides to break up with his girlfriend.
The pinning isnât obnoxious, but the band definitely knows.
Bobby, though he knows Luke is a heartbreaker, also knows that the only reason for that is because Luke has real feelings for Bridgett.
That doesnât mean he wants them to get together! It would still be weird for his friend to be dating his sister.
But he stops giving Luke a hard time when catching him staring at Bridgett.
