What I mean when I say “I can’t do that”- Anxiety Version:
I am unable to do that
I am too stressed out to do that
I cannot face the humiliation of attempting to do that
My body will physically not allow me to do that
I am on the verge of a panic attack
I cannot do that
What people hear:
I am unwilling to do that
I am just shy
I am overreacting
I am lazy
I need to get more experience in social situation to help my anxiety
I need a push
I don’t want to do that
Proper response to someone saying “I can’t do that” because of anxiety:
Can I do it for you?
Would you like my help doing it?
Would you like to go somewhere where you feel can do that?
Is there anything I can do to either alleviate your anxiety or help you do it?
What about it can you not do? (And then, sub-sequentially, would you like help with that part/is there anything I can do to help with that)
these responses are literally SO important when you have anxiety
Sometimes things are really scary and if someone has confided in you that they can’t do something because of their anxiety, you should treat it as best you can
anything that goes along the lines of “I would like to help in any way I can” and away from “You are being a baby” is pretty great.
i’ve never seen this response attached to my post before!!!! thank you so much, this is an excellent addition
Steven Universe Mystery Minis coming in July!
Reblog if you support romantic same sex relationship themes and gay characters in childrens entertainment!
based on this post.
My favorite internet phenomenon is when someone comments on a YouTube video with a really benign comment like “I love this song!” and then there are a bunch of hidden responses to that comment and then the last one isn’t hidden and it’s something like “you ignorant tool, I can’t believe anyone would even defend Eisenhower’s foreign policies, let alone compare them to political strategies of Napoleon. Take your asinine opinions elsewhere (and FYI, the Chinese DID invent noodles. idiot.)”
HOLY FREE ART PROGRAMS BATMAN
I’ve had this list sitting around for a while (in case I ever want to try something new) and I thought I’d share it, because why the hell not, everybody loves free stuff. I’ve only used a couple, so for all I know these could be complete shit. BUT YOU NEVER KNOW, RIGHT?
*= available for both windows and mac os
GIMP * - Does a lot of the same stuff as Photoshop.
FireAlpaca * - Similar to Paint Tool Sai, so it’s a good alternative for Mac users.
Autodesk Sketchbook Copic Edition * - Simulates the look of copic markers.
MyPaint * - Basic stuff, nothing fancy.
Pinta * - Drawing program modeled after paint.NET.
Inkscape * - Vector/drawing program meant to be similar to Illustrator.
ArtRage * - Digital painting program; you can get the trimmed down version for free or buy the full version with more features.
Sumo Paint * - In-browser drawing app.
DAZ Studio * - Some sort of 3D model poser thing.
Pencil * - Software for animating.
SketchUp * - Tool for making 3D models. Looks handy for stuff like architectural drawings.
Blender * - Pretty popular 3D software.
escape motions * - Some browser apps, fun to fiddle with when you’re bored (the fluid fire simulation is pretty cool imo).
Twistedbrush (Pixarra) - Seems to be meant for replicating the look of traditional media.
Pixia/Phierha - A popular program in Japan, according to the website.
Krita - This was originally made for Linux and it looks like the developers haven’t ironed out all of the kinks in the Windows installer.
Artweaver - Another trimmed down free thing if you don’t want to buy the full program.
paint.NET - Pretty basic kit, probably good for simple stuff.
Project Dogwaffle - I’m not sure what this one is all about because I couldn’t stop laughing at the terrible website.
Speedy Painter - Lightweight digital painting program.
mtPaint - Originally made for pixel art; simple enough to run on older computers.
Chasys Draw IES - Supposed to be some sort of drawing+image editor thing.
PaintRibbon - Seems to be another plain old basic image editor.
DrawPlus - Looks like it’s made for graphic design and vector stuff.
SmoothDraw - I’m guessing this is a basic thing for people who don’t want to bother with complicated stuff.
OK so I just need to say that all of these programs are worthy of taking a look! BUT I SAW KRITA THERE ON THE LIST AND I WANT TO ADD A FEW THINGS
Krita is an opensource program like Blender! It’s had 2 successful Kickstarters so far (3 if you count the other one not on Kickstarter a long time ago) and it’s on its way to becoming it best version yet, Krita 3.0! Their devs are super friendly and also really fast!
Being an opensource program means that anyone is free to look at their code and modify it however to fit your needs. In fact, some artists have already done so and added some helpful tools! Wolthera added painting assistants to help with perspective and she’s done amazing work on colorspaces, although I’m not too knowledgeable about it.
Krita is great. Like, really, really great. I can’t even begin to describe how much I love it. I used to hop around software a lot! But Krita is now my primary tool because it’s all I need. And it keeps getting better! The last finished kickstarter added in so many useful features like cage transform and layer styles! They went ahead and made a working proof-of-concept OSX port even though it didn’t make the stretch goal! And it will keep getting better!
This year, they’re aiming to finally add animation. It’s always been a highly requested feature, and there have been beta animation branches, but now they’re ready to finally tackle it and include it in the main program! They’re also working on making Krita even faster than before!
Since Krita is opensource, it mostly relies on volunteers. These kickstarters are to fund a programmer working fulltime on krita. But it’s not the only thing an opensource program needs! It needs a lot of user support! Bugs won’t exactly wrangle themselves!
Windows version is perfectly fine to use! I have a linux machine myself but I used to use it on windows too. If you find any problems you should never hesitate to let the devs know, though the forums or irc or even send an ask on their tumblr!
Krita is also available on steam! You can get automatic updates and a touch-friendly version of krita called Krita sketch! Of course krita is still completely free and you can download it from the website at no charge. The benefits to steam is simply automatic updates and giving money to the krita devs!!
I just felt like a short mention of how krita is buggy wouldn’t do the program justice! It’s amazing and I recommend it to all my friends! It may not always be someone’s cup of tea though!
If you can, please share this! I’ve been planning on writing something about my favorite krita features and why it’s awesome but I haven’t had the time yet. I don’t think I’ve addressed quite everything I’ve wanted to say. In the meantime, please check it out and don’t hesitate to send me an ask if you have any questions! Thanks for reading!
