i say this as a disabled trans person whose trans identity is made front-and-center to the (mainly cis) people who know i’m trans but my identity as a disabled person is brushed off by the very same people.

Op says its okay to headcannon cis characters as trans and for some reason yall jumped all the way to "its okay to turn trans characters into another gender to fit my likes/make them like me" which is completely defeating the point of OP's point. Headcanoning cis characters as trans is fine because there is a million cis characters to choose from. But when you take one of the token trans characters we are given and switch or change their gender identity now YOU are erasing real representation for trans people. Trans people like YOU so please respect the few trans characters we have and stop misinterpreting OP.

Not to mention if you cant relate to other trans people unless they share your gender identity you need to unpack that. We are all siblings even if our experiences are different.

No worries. And to the bad faith reader who accused this of erasing trans fem and trans masc individuals who don't identify as men or women. What the actual fuck? A trans man explaining their experience in fandom isn't erasing non binary, agender, or intersex people. It's just not the topic of the post. And I understand Transmasc doesnt = trans man (because Im not a trans man either I'm non binary, genderqueer and still identify as trans masc.) but assuming that the usage of that term was supposed to mean "all trans mascs are trans men" is really a bad faith read. Or an excuse to pick at the post and in fight.

The erasure of trans characters by fandom happens for all gender identities, even if this post isnt about that specifically. As an example Non binary characters are frequently pushed into a binary gender for the sake of making them "relatable" to either men or women, for their headcanons. And since there are so few to begin with yeah it bothers me when it happens.

For me I'm happy seeing any trans representation, I don't need to center it around my specific identity to enjoy or to resonate with a trans character. I will always have more in common with any kind of trans person than I'll ever have to a cis person, so it never bothers me seeing my siblings be represented.

Intersex people exist, Agender people exist, non binary, gender queer, and just gender non conforming people in general exist and are valid, I really don't think the post was ever trying to deny that. Its just someones experience in fandom as a trans person.

If anything a lot of cis women are actually the ones pretending, they're just jealous of how we are allowed to express ourselves and be who we are and because that is seen as "bad" to them they CHOOSE to pretend to be women or be straight to keep whatever privileges theyre allowed for conforming.
