Esk said: “You don't have to do it like that, Granny.
“Oh yes?” she said, her voice dead-level. “You know of a better way, do you?”
“You could magic it alight.”
Granny paid great attention to arranging bits of twig on the reluctant flames.
“How would I do that, pray?” she said, apparently addressing her remarks to the fireback.
“Er,” said Esk, “I . . . I can't remember. But you must know anyway, don't you? Everyone knows you can do magic.”
“There's magic,” said Granny, “and then again, there's magic. The important thing, my girl, is to know what magic is for and what it isn't for. And you can take it from me, it was never intended for lighting fires, you can be absolutely certain of that. If the Creator had meant us to use magic for lighting fires, then he wouldn't have given us - er, matches.”
“But could you light a fire with magic?” said Esk, as Granny slung an ancient black kettle on its hook. “I mean, if you wanted to. If it was allowed.”
“Maybe,” said Granny, who couldn't: fire had no mind, it wasn't alive, and they were two of the three reasons.
“You could light it much better.”
“If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing badly,” said Granny, fleeing into aphorisms, the last refuge of an adult under siege.
The bubble is nigh.
i do think lobbying for data centres over climate goals should be considered a crime against humanity btw
This is a story about magic and where it goes and perhaps more importantly where it comes from and why, although it doesn't pretend to answer all or any of these questions.
It may, however, help to explain why Gandalf never got married and why Merlin was a man. Because this is also a story about sex, although probably not in the athletic, tumbling, count-the-legs-and-divide-by-two sense unless the characters get totally beyond the author's control. They might.

I love this frame so much, i had to redraw it
joining tumblr for the first time now is like in movies when the city kid goes to the small small small town and someone there is like “we ain’t got nona that weefee or whatever but we’s got Jimbo who yells the news and that’s good enough” and points to Jimbo who is currently asleep on his rocker
Except for us it’s like “we ain’t got no al-go-rithm but we do have haiku-bot and that one destiel screengrab that tells us the news and that’s good enough”

the real thing no one warns you about with adulthood is that expensive bills sense each other and are herd animals by nature, so one pops up and then the others appear close behind
in more pleasant news: this year is seeing the biggest humpback migration in Australian history, bigger than it was PRE whaling. That's right, there are more humpbacks migrating off the coast of Australia than there were BEFORE industrial whaling started.
A huge, fat W for environmentalists and Greenies. what an achievement
we did it! we saved the fucking whales!!!!
Once hunted almost to extinction, the population of humpback whales currently migrating down Australia's east coast has bounced back and is

If you're fifteen or older an still sleep with a stuffed animal please reblog this.
My friend is embarrassed and thinks she’s the only one and I said id prove her wrong.
There’s no shame in still sleeping with a teddy bear or plushie no matter how old you are. All that matters is that they provide comfort and security when you’re feeling low or even have a nightmare.
There is such a thing as an emotional support stuffed animal and you have nothing to be embarrassed. To your friend, she’s NOT alone.
You bet I do 😊
I just turned 37 and yes I do
