Do you ever cycle through the same 4 apps on your phone over and over again and feel like a tiger pacing its cage at the zoo
Detective Pikachu (2019) dir. Rob Letterman
growing up reading fantasy books was such a bust cause your whole life you’re left wanting more from life and like there’s something missing and you’re just waiting for that missing part to begin but it’s never gonna come

Their best and worst rat of the week feature alone is enough to make it worth it
Also: don’t stigmatize HIV+ individuals because they all have different circumstances and might’ve gotten the virus from a variety of sources (sex, occupational, birth, blood transfusions in other countries).
HIV-related stigma remains a huge barrier to preventing HIV, and is linked to a low level of people testing for HIV.
The bad news is that Trump is cutting America’s spending on HIV year after year. He has taken steps to weaken the Affordable Care Act since coming to power.
prep is preventative, pep is what you take after initial exposure
How do you forget something like that?
You don’t. It’s what you say later to cover your ass but you don’t forget.
A heartfelt message for the PM from Nelligen RFS (via jwwr on twitter)
Australian of the year.
The prime minister defunded the rural fire service by about a third before fire season.
He’s ignored climate change reports from as far back as 2007 that estimated 2020 would have the worst bushfire season we had ever seen.
He tried to force a rural firefighter volunteer to shake his hand, after being rejected he said “oh he must have just been tired.”
The man had just lost his house while trying to save others houses.
This is a tiny portion of a long list of things that the Australian prime minister has done to hinder the rural fire service which has cost human lives, the lives of 500 million animals, peoples houses and properties, people’s livelihoods and over 5 million hectares of land and everything on it.
Scott Morrison can get fucked.
today (10th jan, 2020) over 100'000 australians got organised, marched and shut down the streets of our major cities in direct support of Scott Morrison either stepping down, or being removed from office.
The people are calling for it - Scott Morrison can and WILL get fucked.
Emotional Overlap / Inside Out
You know, this is actually pretty useful for people who struggle to understand/identify their emotions.
Proof that hatred is fear of what you don’t understand or like
I haven’t seen the movie but this is a great reference
There was more legitimate science in ‘Inside Out’ than there was in ‘Interstellar’. [source]
of course there was! if at this point you dont know they consulted actual child psychologists for accuracy thats on you tbh tbh
also useful for character development
Straight Men just Be Like That sometimes
Some people in the notes keep defending Straight White Men while other notes just explain that it’s Facts:
Like… This post isn’t about forgetting a name/age because of memory loss, social anxiety or dyslexia. This post is specifically about how Straight Men aren’t involved enough in their kid’s education and well-being. It’s about the inequity of gender roles, and how men aren’t expected to care too much about their children.
We have a concept for this in French: “la charge mentale” (the mental load). It explains how women are expected to do all the chores and to remember everything which is relevant about the children’s development, while the men just… aren’t.

This hardcore makes me think of one of my coworkers whose husband frequently leaves on trips and doesn’t call her or his 2 kids for days at a time and she is frequently the one that has to pick the kids up and drop the kids off at school. She has honest to God told me that she feels like she is raising 3 kids her two real kids and her fucking husband. She’s a therapist and then she has to go home and deal with all that shit too. It pisses me off so fucking much.
There are a lot of mostly very young people with no children calling this ableist, and there is an important distinction to be made here. Forgetting your dad’s birthday or your coworker’s name are not comparable issues because (presumably) those people are not dependent on you to live and function in society. A child needs adults to relay and recall information for them so they can receive proper healthcare, education, nutrition and more. They need the adults in their life to be on the ball.
Parents with genuine memory issues who care about their kids don’t give up and rely entirely on another person to take care of that stuff for them; they take notes, they keep records, they utilize technology in order to meet their kids’ needs and reduce the burden on their partners. If they don’t, their kids suffer. The pattern being described here isn’t some mysterious neurodivergence that only affects straight men. It’s the result of sexist thinking where men assume they can check out of the hard work of parenting and let their wives deal with it.
Here’s the last fact: some of those wives and mothers are neurodivergent themselves. They are also stressed, they may also be depressed, but because their partner isn’t stepping up, they don’t get to shrug off the responsibility of remembering this stuff. The fact that they’re used by their husbands as record keepers isn’t a sign that they have neurotypical privilege, it’s a sign that they have no backup in keeping their kids’ needs met. This unbalanced stress will inevitably affect the children, because a family’s emotional and mental health is interconnected. That’s why this laziness is harmful.
Society really reinforces this too. My husband is a stay at home dad and EVERY year we have to remind the school for our 8 year old that his number should be the first contact for nurse or emergencies. I work full time and can’t always answer my phone, while he’s at home, usually with the car, and less than a mile from school, and they still call me first for everything in spite of how we fill out the emergency contact paperwork.
Don’t get me wrong, I want to hear if my kid is sick, needs to be picked up, or just not feeling well, but he’s the first contact cause I can’t always do something about it.
And what do they say every time I tell them he should be contacted first? “Oh, usually the dad doesn’t care about this stuff.” They’re super nice, but every time there’s a substitute or a new teacher or nurse, it just happens all over again.
Our society just keeps this cycle going.
suck it tim

my parents just got back from vacation and my mom befriended an octopus???? she scared off a small shark (because you don’t want them near you in the water) and realized the thing it had been circling was a little octopus, which then came over and stayed near her feet for a few minutes. I’ve never been so jealous in my entire life
she didn’t even realize it was an octopus at first because it was pretending to be a starfish. i love my new octopus sibling.
I’m glad you’re all so supportive of my newest family member
“Major film studios don’t include queer content because they’ll be censored in foreign markets!”
No. They do it because they’re queerphobic cowards and are afraid of backlash from conservatives in the good ol’ US of A. They use “foreign markets” as an excuse, and y’all just eat it up.
“But a lot of foreign markets DO censor queer content!”
Do you SERIOUSLY think that queerphobic American filmmakers would suddenly start churning out progressive queer content even if nowhere else in the world was queerphobic? Like. Y’all.
Stop blaming American queerphobia on other countries.
Also they do shit all the time that isn’t ok on foreign markets. Excessive violence, massive amounts of hetero sex, child abuse, things straight up blasphemous and racist to said cultures. They don’t care.
this is 100% a within north America problem
China literally can’t stand the undead and ghosts. You really think China is the reason they randomly gave Finn and Poe one-scene heterosexual love interests in a film full of force ghosts and a main villain who is basically a fucking zombie?
