Ok, God, I am fucking wheezing, I got trained to work with mice today since I’ll need them for some experiments and the guy who trained me was like, “Yeah ok so if there’s a day where you just absolutely cannot get your mice to cooperate you can always do this” and picks up this cone-shaped bag and just put the mouse face-first into it and shows it to me and I lose my shit because deadass it was a piping-bag of mouse. Like, the whole mouse was pressed into this cone, fur and ears and feet all pressed up against the plastic, tail sticking up absurdly out of the top of the thing. It was so unimaginably fucking funny but like the mouse was perfectly ok with it, there’s a hole for air at the bottom so she could breathe and all but it was genuinely the most absurd thing I have witnessed in months

A What If Squeaky Idea

So there are posts about there for what if Squeaky was this type of animal instead of a mouse or with @pwofessow-boxweitnew if Squeaky was a different species of mouse. So now I am throwing my hand into this concept series. What if Squeaky was a ferret and Steven became fused to his Ferret brain.

Results: Flexible Long/Tall Boy Dr. Two Brains.

I dont know much about ferrets, but since Dr. Two Brains is based mostly on how mice are commonly thought to behave I am currently having a delightful time imagining a ferret Dr. Two Brains gleefully stealing loads of completely useless things

I haven't drawn Dr. Two Brains in forever so excuse the quality but I could NOT stop thinking abt if Squeaky was a different species or type of mouse.

Because I've definitely seen animal swaps before but never just a mouse swap, all that really changes is the hair and eyes to be fair. Except for grasshopper mouse who howls, kills, and is immune to scorpion venom

Hah thank you! But sorry to disappoint as I'm honestly not that good at art tutorials 😅, my sister's been asking me the same thing and my answer always ends being along the lines of "the shading goes where I think it should go"

But let's give it a shot! I do believe you sent this ask sometime after I posted this wolf mouse 2b, so we'll be using that as an example!

The highlights here are all blue, so that has the bonus of making them easier to notice

I draw the shading before the highlights if that helps in anyway?

The first thing I do when drawing highlights is try to imagine there the light source is! But of the time I dont really consider it while drawing, so I actually tend to put the light source in the direction of wherever I happened to put the eyeshine. 2b here has his eyeshines on the left and you'll notice that most of the highlights are on the left as well

More specifically, the lighting is slightly left, and in front of him; rather than being fully to the side. You can tell as I put the blue light in some shaded spots

Another thing is to consider the art in 3d! Think of it actually existing and taking up space. When doing the lighting i always try to think of what I'm drawing as 3d and try to add to lighting in proper spots

And while I dont always do this, the material the lighting is on factors to. When I draw stuff like 2b's gloves or leather I make the highlights far more noticeable. Metals and gold I try to give a nice contrast and shine

And under the cut are some more examples of my art with shading! I tried to stick to onces with noticeable highlights (as mostly I tend to just draw shading with no highlights or just some glowly stuff). Sorry that it's like. All fnaf. That's what I've been drawing the most recently bdksndks

^ Very clear highlights. The last one even has some funky material highlights too. Top right I kinda rushed but you can still tell the lighting is coming through the trees

i’m probably gonna be stepping on some toes with this, but i think the wordgirl fandom has to start being careful about the content they publicly post. especially since this is a fandom for a kid’s show that’s growing at a fast rate online

it’s really weird for people, especially adults, to draw or write about a child (especially a child of color) being brutalized or abused in detail. wg is for pre-schoolers and elementary school kids, like holy shit y’all :/

it’s a silly and lighthearted show, with some serious moments sprinkled in, but in a very clear age appropriate way! i’m not saying that you can’t touch upon more complex topics, but like. do it responsibly?

just please be more mindful of the target demographic of wg. this can be dangerous to young kids coming across your stuff, and we don’t need a repeat of the mlp fandom :(

While more serious content is totally fine I absolutely agree some should be more responsible about it! Please remember to always properly tag content for filtering and/or put in under a readmore with warnings above so no one can accidentally see it if they dont want to; and minors cant just stumble upon it

I'm not really active enough to see much gore or serious stuff in this fandom, but I have seen very suggestive content in the main tag that didn't have any warnings or tags I could filter out, forcing me to see it and eventually having to block the person because they tended to post unfilterable suggestive stuff quite a bit
