Please check heating elements for reptile regularly. I had had a close call with my reptiles today. I just happened to be moving the rack when I noticed this. Only one part of the heat tape failed (not where the probe was). I have a burn mark on my carpet now. Thankfully the snake that was in that slot is fine. I'm sorry my thoughts are just thrown out here but I'm still freaking out.

Anyone else have this issue?

I have not had any luck with Under Tank Heaters. I’ve bought 4 so far and every single one had an issue. 2 never got hot (they were ALWAYS room temp even plugged directly into a wall, 1 could never heat up enough to actually warm bottom of the tank/substrate, and the last melted off the tank despite (again) not impacting the temperature of the cage (probably melted when my apartment was 100F every day).

They were different brands too so it’s not like I’m bad at picking brands.

That’s whack! Have you tried Reptile Basics THG heat mats? I have been using the same ones for over a year now and haven’t had any issues. I love them so much that i bought 3 more for my newbies. Also, have you been using the same thermostat? It could be the stat thats giving you problems in combination with the mats.

I haven’t tried reptile basics yet, I’m not sure if they even sell them locally. Are they really expensive?. I usually see zoomed or exoterra or the other ‘big brands’ 

I’ve used 3 different controllers and thermostats, including a infrared one to check temps. I think I’m just cursed XD

Aw crap i always forget you aren’t in the US. They are cheap as crud! The 3 i just got were $27 including shipping compared to $40 each for zoomed, etc. Im not sure if they ship out of the country though :( :( maybe try Bean Farm? They sell flexwatt which is similar and maybe they will ship to you?

Boooooo US only :( I love Canada but man do I hate that I miss out on stuff like this. Those Reptile basic mats look perfect and the prices are good (before calculating the exchange rates which are SHIT right now)

Ive asked some facebook groups (which are undoubtedly primarily American) if anyone knows a place in Canada. I’ll let you know if anything turns up.

Damn those groups on fb are great despite also being filled with jerks. First, Bean farm will ship to Canada. They don’t assemble the heat tape for you, so it was recommended that you check out youtube for how to connect flexwatt. Second, http://cornelsworld.com/product-category/heating/ has THG connectors and heat tape for sale. Im willing to bet if you spoke with the guy who sells it (Greg) he’d be willing to wire it and send it to you since he also manufactures enclosures. In case you didnt know, flexwatt is matting made for plants that people also have successfully used for reptiles. THG is specifically designed for reptiles though. I’d email that second suggestion first and see if you can work something out. I tried wiring my own once and it worked, but it was a total pain.

I highly recommend Greg from Cornels World. I've gotten heat tape from him multiple times in the past and have had no issues whatsoever.
