its so frustrating being a squidward fan bc he always loops back to his usual self at the end of the episode but also they cant actually have character development bc the show is partially built on the unchanging premise of this optimistic guy who never gives up and has a genuine appreciation of everything around him including his neighbor who is sarcastic and nihilistic and contrasts him in every way, who acts like he doesnt care about the other, and then we never get to see him grow as a person or have healthier approaches towards life because the confrontation of these two philosophies and the back and forth between them is just too interesting, and if one gear in the story making machine were to change it would just destroy the interactions between each element completely, my girlfriend is stuck in the story making machine and its horrible and awful and upsetting but the narrative oooooh the narrative is so good that even if it kinda requires my fave being eternally unhappy and having the worst life of his life to make it work im still gonna watch it lol

The more people I see talking about trans history, the more I would like to stop hearing from people who do not know who Lou Sullivan was, and I would like anyone who doesn’t bother acknowledging him at all to just stop entirely.

Also, everyone who has ever taken part in the erasure of trans men from trans history has done severe damage to our community (looking at you, Susan Stryker*, who wrote an entire book on exclusively transfem American history while very casually and blatantly misrepresenting and erasing trans men’s presence and contributions save for one and only because it primarily benefitted trans women and then proceeded to call the book Transgender History, like if you had just taken out the blatantly false parts about trans men and called it American Trans Women’s History, it would not only be accurate but valuable, but as it is fuck you).

The misconception that trans men were just entirely absent from trans history and all trans rights were won due to the hard work of trans women only has led to people genuinely thinking trans men don’t even deserve their own spaces because “trans women started the community”. Nah, we all started the community together. Trans women, trans men, nonbinary people, all of us, we all made the community. Some of us just got erased from the narrative.

* Me mentioning a specific trans woman who has contributed to the problem in a major way because im pissed at her for it does not mean that I blame trans women as a whole. That would be silly. While individual trans people can commit lateral aggression and hurt other trans people, the systems in place that lead to trans women’s hypervisibility and trans men and nonbinary people’s invisibility were started by cis people. I kinda hate that I have to write this disclaimer and hope it’s enough to keep me from being derailed by performative allies and assholes with a weird hate boner for trans men but im not gonna test my luck by posting this without it.
