it's crazy how by writing q and picard tng perfectly predicted the relationship between a tumblrina and a blorbo. like yeah here is this emotionally constipated middle aged man and the omnipotent homosexual who wants nothing but to put this guy in fucking Predicaments. also the omnipotent homosexual is considered a weirdo by his peers. he is also unemployed. that's a big plotpoint actually

Jean-Luc woke to the faint sound of classical music drifting through the air. For a moment, disoriented and still half-asleep, he thought he was back in his quarters on the Enterprise. But as his eyes opened to the swirling, iridescent void above him, reality came crashing back with brutal clarity.
This wasn’t his bed, his quarters, or his life. It was the gilded cage Q had crafted for him.
He swung his legs over the side of the impossibly soft chaise, noticing with irritation that it now resembled the antique furniture Q had once teased him about admiring during a holodeck visit to Earth’s past. The dimension, like Q himself, was as invasive as it was unsettlingly perceptive.
"How are you liking it, so far?" Jean-Luc barely had time to gather his thoughts before Q materialized in the center of the room, arms spread wide, a self-satisfied grin plastered across his face. “Everyone needs a home, Jean-Luc, and I made us the perfect one.”
Picard stood, spine rigid, his face a mask of restrained fury. “A home?” He gestured to the ever-changing expanse around them. “This is no home, Q. It’s an elaborate prison.”
Q’s grin faltered, but only slightly. He recovered quickly, shrugging with mock nonchalance. “Oh, please. Such a dramatic word. ‘Prison.’ That implies you’re a captive, and yet—” He snapped his fingers, summoning a table set with an exquisite breakfast spread. “You have everything you could ever want. Is that really so different from a home?”
Picard’s jaw tightened. He didn’t respond, but the silence between them bristled with unspoken recriminations.
Q stepped closer, his usual air of amusement softening into something almost earnest. “You’re tired, Jean-Luc. Always running, always fighting, always chasing some unattainable ideal. I’m offering you rest. A place where you can just... be.”
Jean-Luc turned his back on him, pacing to the far edge of the room where the shimmering walls dissolved into an endless star field. He stared out into the void, searching for a way to anchor himself in the face of Q’s relentless presence.
“I never asked for this,” he said finally, his voice low but firm. “And I certainly never asked for you to decide what I need.”
Q appeared beside him in an instant, his expression uncharacteristically exposed. “Didn’t you, though?” he asked quietly. “You let me in, Jean-Luc. Once. You let me touch you, share something... real. I gave you space, respected your boundaries, didn’t I? But you wanted me, even if you couldn’t admit it outright.”
Jean-Luc flinched at the words, at the memories they dredged up. Late nights in his quarters, stolen moments between battles and diplomatic crises, a respite he rarely allowed himself to enjoy, before Q came along. For a brief time, he had indulged in his attention, his touch.
“That was different,” he said sharply, his voice like a whip crack. “That was on my terms. I never relinquished control. I never—” He turned to face Q, his eyes blazing. “—belonged to you.”
For the first time, Q’s confidence seemed to waver. “I never wanted to own you,” he said softly, his voice carrying an edge of hurt. “I only want to—” He hesitated, as though the next words were difficult for him to say. “To be with you. To share something... meaningful.”
Jean-Luc laughed, but there was no humor in it. “Meaningful? Is that what you call abducting me? Stripping me of my life, my crew, my freedom? You claim to understand me, Q, but you couldn’t be more wrong. You’ve turned something I once found solace in—” He stopped, the words catching in his throat. “—into something I resent.”
Q recoiled as if struck. For a moment, the light around them dimmed, the shimmering walls dulling to a muted gray. “You’re so quick to vilify me,” he said, his voice tinged with frustration. “I gave you everything, Jean-Luc. And I’m still here, waiting. Do you think your precious Enterprise would do the same? That it wouldn’t replace you the moment you became inconvenient?”
Jean-Luc’s lips pressed into a thin line, but his silence spoke volumes.
Q stepped closer, his tone softening again, almost pleading. “This could be our home. You could be happy here, with me. Why can’t you see that?”
Picard turned away, the weight of Q’s gaze almost unbearable. “Because a home isn’t something you take,” he said quietly. “It’s something you choose. And I would never choose this.”
The words hung in the air, heavy and final. Q said nothing more, and when Picard looked up again, the room was empty. But he knew better than to believe he was truly alone.

Jean-Luc sat in the center of the impossible room, its walls shimmering like liquid starlight. No matter how often he blinked or adjusted his perspective, the scenery refused to remain constant. Sometimes, it stretched into a grand cathedral of nebulae. Other times, it collapsed into a claustrophobic void. No matter its form, his circumstances were the same. He was utterly alone.
Or, at least, he wanted to be.
“Really, you’ve no one to blame for this but yourself, Jean-Luc.” From behind him, the telltale, mischievous lilt of Q’s voice broke the silence. “You said you wanted to get away from it all, didn’t you?”
Picard didn’t turn. He hadn’t so much as looked at Q since the moment he’d found himself in this infernal place. A thousand retorts came to mind, each as sharp and cutting as the phaser he wished he had. Instead, he reached for the cup of tea that hadn’t existed a moment ago but now sat steaming on the pedestal beside him. It was Earl Grey, of course. Hot, perfectly brewed. He didn’t drink it.
“Ah, the silent treatment,” Q mused, his tone almost sing-song. “I thought we were past such juvenile games, Jean-Luc.”
Still, Picard refused to acknowledge him. He focused instead on the faint hum that seemed to permeate the space, a sound that vibrated deep in his chest. Was it the structure? Or perhaps the very fabric of the dimension? It didn’t matter. It was preferable to engaging with his captor.
A gust of wind—impossible, given the lack of doors or windows—ruffled Picard’s uniform. Q had manifested in front of him now, leaning on an invisible rail as though they were casually lounging at Ten Forward.
“You know,” Q began, adopting the conversational tone of a man discussing the weather, “most people would consider this paradise. No crew demanding your attention. No constant battles to uphold your precious Prime Directive. Some alone time, at last.” He smirked. “Isn’t that what you’ve always secretly wanted?”
Picard’s jaw clenched. The tea was a touch too hot as he finally took a sip, but he welcomed the burn. It gave him something tangible to focus on, something that wasn’t Q.
“I could have made it so much simpler,” Q continued, undeterred. “A tropical island, perhaps. Or an endless library. You mortals adore your quaint escapes. But no, I wanted to give you something... special.” He gestured broadly, as if presenting a grand masterpiece. “A sanctuary where you can finally be free of all those pesky responsibilities. No Starfleet, no Federation.” His eyes glittered. “Just us.”
The words hung in the air, heavy and charged. Picard set his cup down with deliberate care and finally looked up. Not at Q, but at the ever-shifting walls. His voice, when it came, was low and measured, every syllable a weapon.
“This isn’t freedom, Q. This is imprisonment.”
Q’s smile faltered, just for a moment. But then it was back, tighter, more forced. “Oh, don’t be so melodramatic, Jean-Luc. I’ve given you everything you could possibly need. Food, drink, comfort—”
“Everything except my autonomy,” Picard snapped, his voice cutting through the space like a blade. He stood now, his posture rigid, his eyes blazing with the fire of a man who had faced far worse than this and survived. “You’ve taken me from my ship, my crew, my life. Do you think I’d trade all of that for—” he gestured vaguely at the surreal surroundings, “—whatever this is?”
Q’s expression darkened. “I did it for you.”
“No, Q.” Picard’s tone was ice. “You did it for yourself.”
For the first time, silence fell between them, true and unbroken. Q’s usual bravado seemed to falter as he studied Picard’s face, searching for some hint of softening, some opening he could exploit. But there was none. Only steel and resolve.
“I could leave you alone, you know,” Q said after a moment, his voice quieter now. “But we both know you’d hate that even more.”
Picard said nothing. He sat back down, picked up his tea, and turned his gaze away.
Q lingered for a moment longer, as though waiting for a reprieve that would not come. Then, with a dramatic sigh, he vanished, leaving Picard alone once more.
Or so it seemed. Picard knew better. Q was always watching.
And so, he waited. Silent, unyielding. A Captain, even in captivity.

Q being forced to see Picard through horrible events and unable to do anything about it and only able to tell both himself (and later Picard) that this is just... temporary. That one day all of this will just be a distant, unpleasant memory for both of them because Picard no longer will be able to feel pain or age because they'll be together.
The potential for whump or just hurt/comfort with these two is AMAZING like omg they can suffer so much but then omg they have eternity to heal together
It comes out, very unintentionally, that Picard loves/has feelings for Q. Picard, remembering how Q spoke of the 'human emotional love' and the 'weakness' that it is, thinks Q will mock him for it, tease him or perhaps even end up being a bit disturbed by this.
Only to end up with his feet slightly above the ground, whirled around, hugged and kissed by Q who rambles on about how he just knew that Picard loved him back.
Q when he meets Picard: Oh this little human and his space crew will make for entertaining toys.

if i had a nickel for every time q suggested that he should have come aboard the enterprise as a woman to seduce picard. i would have two nickels. which isn't that.much but it's weird it happend twice
