SPEAKING MY TRUTH.(Spirit: Riding Free 2017 TV show)

Okay so I was on Pinterest like a minute ago and saw some people talking shit about Kate and Jim as a couple saying “they would never be a real family”, and that “Jim and Kate were selfish”, and this made me mad enough to post about it. I’ve been binging Spirit with my dad recently and I’m currently on season seven, episode one. I don’t know what awaits between them in the next two seasons and Riding Academy, but all I’ve seen from Kate and Jim is exceptional parenting.

First of all, Kate is an amazing stepmother. She’s always willing to listen to Lucky, and she’s generally just great parenting material. She loves working with kids and is just so sweet and kind and understanding. To me, Lucky is sort of ADHD coded, and when she kept forgetting the rings, Kate and Jim were super forgiving. Not to mention that Kate is just so silly and kind, and completely open to accepting Lucky as her stepdaughter. She even gave Lucky her mom’s necklace, which was, obviously, a very important object considering she grew up in an orphanage and likely never met her parents.

Jim was a great dad, too. Whenever Lucky made a mistake, he was so understanding and open minded and thoughtful. He’s so good at cheering people up, and is generally a really goofy guy and kind of reminds me of my dad. I always smile when he comes on screen, because I know it’s going to be a good time. And although his parenting methods may seem to liberating or neglectful(like when he and Kate got together and he pretty much ignored Lucky’s feelings), it’s important to remember that first of all, it’s set in the late 1880s to the early 1900s(according to some Reddit users) and despite the fact that a lot of creative liberty was taken, that was generally how parenting was back then. And also, Jim has been seen many times wanting to be there for his daughter. He clearly loves her and cares about her feelings.

Lucky has also said that she loves Kate, multiple times if I’m not mistaken. I think her character arc regarding how she felt about Kate could’ve been a little more well-written(I have a stepparent myself), but generally she’s shown to get along with Kate and learn to see her as more than just her teacher. So to the people saying that they’ll never be a real family, go suck on eggs. A family is a group of people who love and care about each other built on a strong platform of respect. A family isn’t always a father, mother, and two children, and personally I think that’s a pretty close minded way to view the world.

Idk I miss them so much but I have the feeling they don’t feel the same. It’s like watching an ancient civilization slowly crumble away right before you, or watching as your best friend sails away on an adventure without you, both knowing you’ll never see each other again. It leaves me with this strange emptiness and makes my stomach turn.

I really can’t remember their face, and it hurts so, so bad, because they’re one of the best things to ever happen to me.
