It’s too dark. I can’t see anything. The area around me is frigid and there is a type of silence I've never known to exist. I look around with haste and cannot see what it is before me, encased in a darkness that terrifies me to my core. I open my mouth to scream and scream. Forcing it to come out so hard that my jaw has nearly unhinged...but I still hear only silence. My throat aches as the muscles expand and contract out of my will. I hold my head with such intensity it might explode. The pain is so strong that it's too hard to bare. I'm begging, praying for an end to all of this. Dear Gods please take this insanity away! And just then...

                                      I heard It.     A sound.                            No.                                                    A melody. A whisper from the universe.                                            What's it saying to me?             Can you hear it?                                   Can anyone hear me?

Tears seep from my eyes but don't seem to fall down my flesh, instead I assumed they disappear into the darkness that envelops me. In my vision I'm beginning to see spots in the far distance. Finally...I'm able to see something, what a relief it is to me that I am not blind.  But...where am I?

There are A LOT of crabs on Christmas Island, man.

They used to cross the road, probably, no definitely, without looking left and right. And they got squished.

Environmentalists had a hell of a job, keeping them in their lane. Traffic would have to be blocked for the duration.

But now, they have a lovely bridge, and no one has to ask: Why did the Christmas Island Crab cross the road, if they’re just gonna get squished?

Answer: They want to hit the beach. Because that’s where they like to have sex. And because the mummy crabs like to throw their eggs into the ocean after they’ve spawned them in the burrows that the daddy crab so kindly digs on the beach.

Look at them scurrying over their bridge, the smell of the ocean in their noses, the thought of copulation driving them on…

Whew! Finally, made it to the beach…now The Sex can begin!

Mission accomplished… And a few weeks later after a float in the ocean…

Back come the ankle biters…to the rainforest where they live.
