hi so i’ve got no idea what happened to qsmp and i was considering getting into it in the second one that might be happening, but i see you’re posting about workplace abuse involved in it. I was just wondering what happened?
So, for a bit of background, there were a lot of "NPCs" played by people who weren't public ccs, as well as a lot of people making assets, writing storylines and plot point, and doing graphic design for various events and the server as a whole for qsmp. Given the multilingual nature of the server there was also a lot of translation work. These workers were generally called admins although most of them didn't actually fill administrative roles.
Towards the end of the server, it came out that there were a lot of problems behind the scenes. They were expected to be "on call" basically 24/7, people were getting paid wildly different amounts or not getting paid at all, miscommunication was common, rules weren't enforced equally depending on whether the higher ups liked you, and admins rarely if ever got credited for their art, writing, 3d modeling, or acting.
This isn't just fan speculation to be clear: many many of the admins publically released statements on the things they endured working for quackity. If you want to read firsthand account the qsmp wiki has a page compiling links to them here.
A lot of the admins were really excited to work for the qsmp and make money doing what they loved, only to find themselves breaking their backs for meager pay, if the checks ever came at all. Quackity took advantage of people who were some of his most dedicated fans, willing work for pennies (OR NOTHING), and his company still treated them with so much disrespect.
There's a good chunk of qsmp fans that don't care about this for various reasons. Quackity was young and didn't know any better. The admins should have been grateful for the chance to play with their favorite ccs or have their art featured on the server.
Talking about this sort of thing ruins the fun: can't we just let people enjoy what they like?
But I think it's important to not let quackity sweep this under the rug: there is damage here that he still has the power to fix and he is choosing not to do so. Not only that, he is setting up a QSMP 2, which benefits from the strong branding and reputation of the QSMP that the admins were essential to. He is still actively, monetarily, tangibly benefitting from the work that the admins did, while they see none of that payoff.
