I love the prequels. You’re not gonna get any of that “I know they were flawed but …” or “sure some things could have been better but …” apologism from me. I love them. I think the prequel trilogy is better than the original, and I’m not sorry.

Love that you had the guts to say it. The thing is, the Original Trilogy may be an iconic nostalgic classic, but as films they are not perfect and never have been. If taken solely on their own, they leave many questions unanswered. By the time Lucas made the Prequels, he had matured as a storyteller and wanted to answer those questions, and answer them his way. The problem was that many of the older fans didn’t want those specific answers. They didn’t want the colourful world before the Dark Times. They didn’t want the Jedi to be flawed. They didn’t want Anakin to be emotionally vulnerable. They didn’t want the Prequels to be what truly completed the story.

But they did. The Original Trilogy already functioned beautifully as a unique Hero’s Journey and space-fairytale with mythic elements. But there were undeniably some pieces missing, some questions remaining. The addition of the greek tragedy of the Prequels answered those questions and elevated the saga into the realm of a true ‘created-myth’.
