Sometimes I just think about a fictional character called Jason Grace. All he was. All he could have been, but didn’t get to be because the series was about someone else. The love I felt for this character as a child because I saw someone with duties and expectations on their shoulders with no clue who they really are and thought: “Oh, look! He’s a little like me”. Because I just thought this guy was really cool. About how all of this was tossed away and left unfulfilled, and how it broke my 12-year old heart.

since my last post was about jason's tattoo, it just dawned on me that jason probably had to get a tattoo the very minute he arrived at camp jupiter since he was the child of jupiter, and most likely was given 'special treatment' by getting 'the honour' quickly.

at four years old.

he got a painful tattoo at four years old.

and was most likely harshly scolded by the senior members of CJ if he had cried.

because all they saw was honour, nobody gets the tattoo that early in, without going through tests and quests, and according to them, jason is being an 'ungrateful brat' by crying.

but all baby jason saw, was pain.

Even with all of the tragic deaths in the PJO series, Jason Grace's hits the hardest. It was the first time that a main character over several books really truly died. He had spent his life in service of the gods, lost the woman he loved, never reunited with his thought to he dead best friend, and suffered for so long only to die for another person's character development. Not even a fellow demigod's, but a god's who had made the lives of mortals difficult for years. He deserved so much better than to be a stepping stone in another's story. He was a hero. Camp Half Blood always acted like the life expectancy was very short, but Jason Grace was when I really realized that. His was the most unsatisfying death, which made it the most gut-wrenchingly painful of them all. Did he open his eyes in the underworld, expecting to see Leo only to realize that his best friend was still alive after all?
