@queer-traveling
the relief when there’s a third option - bc genderneutral restrooms are so important for people who don’t fit in the gender binary (like me)

Hey folks!
Today marks the last full day of this trip - we went on top of Arthurs Seat and got to enjoy the amazing view of Edinburgh.

Yesss! Gender neutral restrooms and showers one of the things i love about hostels. This was taken at the Inverness Student Hostel in Scotland. - Robyn
ayyyye 💃🏽🌟 Do you have any experience with maintaining a travel journal? any tips maybe? 🙈 thank you in advance
Maintaining a travel yournal
heya!
i think the most important thing is to find your style. whether it’s writing small poems about experiences you had during the day, a list of things you did/saw, a detailed description of places and people, small drawings, collecting tickets, coins and small items to glue in your journal, or a combination of these. It can also change during your trip.
It should become a pleasure to make journal entries and not an obligatory duty. Sure, there are days you’re too tired or just not in the mood to write anything. That’s okay. Don’t stress yourself.
On my 3-months trip I didn’t write everyday. But maybe two times a week I went to a nice cafe, ordered a fruit shake and wrote and drew for a while. My friend did the same, so this worked quite good for us, it was almost always a pleasure. And when I didn’t know what to write I doodled in/on my journal. And tried to write it another day. - fynn
Tried to go for a swim in Loch Ness but it was too bloody cold. But I did it shirtless and it felt soooo good🙏 Picture by @jos.lang #trans #transmasc #transgender #nonbinary #genderneutral #genderqueer #stomachrolls #queer #queerpride #gay #gaypride #transandshirtless #tapebinding #chestbinding #lochness #scotland #adventuretime #transisbeautiful #transition #thisiswhattranslookslike
Scotland continues to be beautiful. This was my favourite part of the Great Glen Way so far. #lochness #scotland #highlands #hike #hiking #mountains #fog #rain #clouds #cloudy #adventure #adventuretime #nature #greatglenway #greatglen
Anyone hang out in Edinburgh next tuesday or wednesday?
Loch Oich. We just arrived in Fort Augustus - half of the Great Glen Way lays behind us. We’re planning on spending two days in Edinburgh - tuesday and wednesday next week. Anyone wanna hang out and/or show us around a bit? #traveling #travel #scotland #hiking #hike #longdistancehike #greatglenway #lochoich #see #lake #spring #mountains #snow #adventure #adventuretime
Anyone wanna hang out with my brother and i in Edinburgh next week? - Robyn
Six months post-op (double mastectomy)
Hey everyone! So, I’m a bit over 6 months post op. And I wanted to make a quick post about it :)
I had my top surgery on the 14th of October 2016 with Dr. von Stumberg, Switzerland. Exactly two months later I started my 3months Trip through Asia. I was glad that I had two months to recover, bc traveling is often exhausting, and my backback was kinda heavy.
I often went swimming topless (always put sunscreen on!), almost nobody looked or cared (cost me quite an effort to build up the courage). And every day (morning & evening) I massaged my scars with coconut oil and put some scar gel on it (Hiruscar or Bepanthen scar gel).
I couldn’t have done this trip without my top surgery – binding on such a trip in these hot humid countries wasn’t an option for me, especially bc my chest was quite big before (triple D, one kilo each).
I’m really lucky that I didn’t have any complications, but nevertheless I need a revision, which sucks a bit. I’m having it in May, and I’m gonna keep you updated on that.
If you have any questions (scar care, the surgery itself, insurance in CH, revision, etc.), just ask. I’m happy to answer them :) – Fynn
Packing list pt 5 – stuff in my small backpack
This I usually had in my smaller backpack, so for the daily use.
– Analog camera and some stock film doses (I had ISO 200 and 400) – a case with some pens, pencils, colours, eraser ect. – a small lighter – a small jute bag (often used as our food bag) – Dextro Energy (in case of blood sugar lows) – a small wallet (not much in there) – Swiss army knife (yeah I’m swiss, and do not take in handbag on the flight) – travel diary and sketch book – a “travel-safety-bag” to wear on trips (nobody’s gonna steal that, here you can keep more money (US-Dollars) and maybe credit cards ect) – drivers licence (although they often aren’t accepted in other countries. you can make an international one, but they cost. i didn’t need it, nobody wanted to see mine, luckily) – health-insurance-card (make sure it covers travel insurance) – a credit card (or split the money up in two, to be safer) – some pass photos (for visa and such stuff) (very handsome yes indeed) – passport (make sure that there are enough pages empty and it’s still valid) – a film dose with some salt in it (for picnics, street food, restaurants, ect) – a good book (and if you’re finished, you can swap your books in most hostels)
Forgot on picture: – Sunglasses (a must) – chewing gum
Do you have any more things to add?
how do you have so much money and time to travel and do all the stuff you want? I can't even afford to take a day off and buy a proper binder…
To be honest, neither of us got much, but I tend to save up as much as I can and try to keep my trips as cheap as possible.
- Robyn
I think it also depends on where you’re from? Not to invalidate what Robyn is saying, but we’re both from Germany, so saving up might be a bit easier for us than it is for someone from the US, for example. And travelling within Europe is comparativelly cheap.
Plus the law here provides every worker with at least 4 weeks worth of vacation days a year (might be more depending on your profession, because unions have their own contracts). Believe it or not, there are people who don’t know what to do with all of them.
My friend Jojo added a few important point, so I’m reblogging this again.
Also, one of the reasons why traveling within Europe is kinda cheap is the size - most US States are bigger that a single country, so the distances are no big deal (most of the time) and the flights aren’t that expensive.
And living in Germany is quite the advantage, for once cause it’s located somewhat in the middle of Europe and because the wages are quite high.

3 months in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. More pics and tips for travellers and queer people: queer-traveling.tumblr.com
some clips from my 3 months trip through south east asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia). I only had my crappy Smartphone with 16GB storage, so I couldn't film much. But enough for a short clip :)

Launceston, Tasmania
Arthouse Hostel, 20 Lindsay Street
http://www.arthousehostel.com.au/
Mixed or single gender dorms, gender neutral toilet downstairs and gender neutral shower upstairs
Friendly staff, two large lounge areas and plenty of space in dorm room
We paid around $24 AUD per night, and it’s pretty good for the price
Great location, close to Deloraine (wild platypus live there!) and other must-dos in Tasmania including Cradle Mountain
Thanks so much for the submission! – Fynn
Packing list pt 4 – electronic stuff
I didn’t take a laptop with me, but for longer trips (more than three months) I would recommend it. Everyone’s different, you do you. But what you don’t carry with you can’t get stolen ;)
– small torch (not for exploring caves, but to find the toilet at night perfect, and can be charged via USB) – small powerbank (and charging cable) – headphones – small speaker (and charging cable) – USB-Stick (with your flight tickets, adresses, ect on it, in case you lose them) – audio adapter cable (we listened to Harry Potter audiobooks together) – smart phone and charging cable (this is my mums – i took the pic with mine) – Travel adapter (not on the pic bc it belongs to my travel friend)
Do you recommend any other gadgets?
Guess who’s not wearing a shirt right now
Tape binding makes me feel so much better about my body. Probably gonna use this on my hiking trip in Scotland. - Robyn
