Coming back to Tumblr after a year and immediately writing a meta is so stupid but I need more people to see how good countdown to yes is
Currently obsessing over some of the details in Countdown to Yes. Seems like one of the reoccurring themes in this show is marriage, specifically queer marriage (duh). Apart from the whole plot of the show being about two of them living together at different phases of their lives, which can also be connected to marriage, I personally think that the English name of the show hints at that a bit. 'Countdown to Yes' definitely sounds a bit "proposey/weddingy" while the Japanese name, which basically translates to 'Until I said "yes" to my best friend's request to live together' sounds less affiliated to marriage to me.
Now let's look at some of the details in the show. Our first look at present day Wataru we see him taking some studio wedding photos of his friend and his wife.
Then we see Wataru setting up a huge sapphic/lesbian wedding photo in his studio (our very first queer marriage easter egg)
Then in the second episode we see Minato straight up propose to Wataru in their college days but our mc is a little too dense (affectionate) to get it and our ml is too autistic to understand that he needs to be more clear about it bc his crush definitely took it as a joke.
Then we see Wataru paralleling the same act years later in Minato's promotion party but as a joke. Our hopeful yearning ml Minato actually ends up asking him if this was his answer to his proposal he made back in college (he's so autistic it's amazing). And when Minato confirms it was indeed a joke he gets visibly annoyed/deflated.
This parallel was a bit bittersweet but nonetheless hints at the reoccurring theme of marriage.
After the promotion party ends we see Wataru and Minato congratulate their newly married friend and while the conversation is happening we see a rainbow poster perfectly in between them and Minato holding a bouquet of white flowers like a newly wed.
I think the creators aren't being subtle about these underlying signs at all. I don't know if I'm asking for too much but it'd be really neat if we get to see these two actually get married in the end 🤞
Been away for too long from here so it feels weird but hi! Currently watching kill to love, cat for cash, burn out syndrome, countdown to yes and katei kyoshi
I can't believe we got the most clingy and grossly in love firstkhao characters ever and we're not getting heaps of fanfics like where is everyone? Kantbison tag is so dry where are my fic writers we need you badly 😞
// Love at first lie //

[ You have my heart now, so take good care of it. ] First Kanaphan as Kant (The Heart Killers, 2024-2025)
i love how kantbison’s dynamic is bison going “do you think i would ever hurt anyone? 🥺” (he would and he does) and kant going “do you think i would ever lie to you? 🥺” (he would and he does)
me watching 'gratuitous' sex and violence and ''problematic representation'' in my shows and movies made for adults
Honestly, I've been thinking and I realized that The Heart Killers isn't currently a love story for anyone but Bison and that's why so many people are reading so much of the story differently.
Kant isn't in a love story yet, he's still in a police drama about family and clearing his name.
Style isn't in a love story, he's in a buddy comedy about finding out his neighbor is a hitman.
Fadel is in a tragedy action adventure and trying to find his way out desperately.
But Bison is in a love story and he's gonna drag them all in with him. Because that's what they all need, in the end.
One more thing about The Heart Killers ep this week - Kant and Bison’s kink negotiation/trial was meant to be that bad. The show isn’t trying to portray ethical, healthy BDSM relationships and I don’t think it’s worth having discourse around whether or not it was morally right or sexually functional because the sex wasn’t actually the point.
Kant is desperate to get close to Bison in order to give the police what they want so he can have a clean slate. He realises that he can use Bison’s kink to manipulate him further and gain his trust. Bison seems reluctant at first but when he is given what he thinks is the green light, he is giddy with excitement. It’s about power and freedom and exploration for him.
And so we come to that scene. I don’t really see this as a sex scene because again, it’s not about the sex. It was never meant to be about the sex. It was an uncomfortable scene to watch because everything that could possibly go wrong was going wrong. It was a mess. Kant miscalculated Bison’s alcohol/drug tolerance levels and suddenly has to play along with a very excited but very loopy Bison who can’t see clearly (and see that Kant is not suuuuuper into it). Even though Kant wants to say “penguin”, he can’t, because he needs to keep Bison on side, he needs to keep this charade up. If he fucks up, it could be the difference between freedom for him (and his little brother) and prison.
It’s a super weird and uncomfortable scenario, yes, but I think to read it as a bad sex scene ignores the context and what lies beneath the surface of these characters’ actions and intentions.
people in the THK tag: I don't like these morally grey characters doing these fucked up things which are obviously done to make the plot progress since we are at ep 3, everybody should be great at communicating and have great sex and be in love, nevermind they're all strangers to each other (except the friends/brothers pairs) and one person is specifically and repeatedly shown to be using everyone else for his own gain
The heart killers is a show about morally grey fucked up people. The whole premise of the show is set upon Kant manipulating bison so them doing fucked up/bad things is expected. If this is not your cup of tea please don't watch and don't clog the tag with your whining and moaning about how gross it is
So it's clear that kant is really not into bdsm at least for now lol
i will die on this hill but i want my boy fadel to be folded in half and fucked seven ways to sunday by that crop top wearing twink
he is gagging for it, i tell you. also i bet he'll love it.

FIRST KANAPHAN as KANT PATTANAWAT and KHAOTUNG THANAWAT as BISON episode 2 of THE HEART KILLERS
I love the fact that bison is genuinely not that smart and naive bc it definitely plays well with his whole "I don't want to be a killer I wanna see the world" personality. Yes I don't think he's completely clueless but he's young and very clearly doesn't have any deeper emotional connection with anyone beside his brother, he's isolated and his actions show it. Like falling for a sleazy guy easily, believing his words and most importantly putting his brother in danger bc he's probably already in love with Kant. It's almost like he's a teenager who fell in love for the very first which in a way makes sense bc his teenage years were very obviously stolen from him bc of this job. Now we obviously don't know what they did before being killers but seeing their young ages I don't think whatever it was, it wasn't very pleasant. This very innocent part of him makes me both anticipate and dread him finally finding out Kant's scheme bc 1, I'm a sucker for angst and 2, firstkhaotung are stellar actors so I just know it's going to be good
