Reblog to give the person you reblogged this from a much needed hug
Simple Pride Reminder
I've been doing some stupid simple comics so please excuse the laziness of this
Thank you for your support, brewskies!
As a trans woman I can confirm that they indeed found an ancient forest inside a 630ft deep sinkhole in China
cis people can reblog this but keep it on subject, please
Happy pride month everyone always remember that the sinkhole has an ecosystem large enough to house not only insects but likely several species of small birds or mammals
If you're comfortable accusing anyone of faking disability, you're not a real ally to disabled people
One time when I was a kid a group of girls and I had to treat another student for hypothermia by ourselves because she had so many invisible health issues that the adults we asked for help didn't believe us. The student in question was actively hallucinating. When I finally ran for help the people I grabbed were slow as shit to respond, casually joking about how "dramatic" the person in question was.
The kid was picked up by an ambulance 30 minutes later.
Now as an adult working in security I get SO MANY folks- upper-middle aged mostly- coming to me to 'rat out' people they think are faking it.
I was once sent into a bathroom because a client demanded that the "fucker won't get out, so go drag them out"- I was NEVER going to do that, so I did a wellness check instead. You know who it was? A person recently released from the hospital after a car accident. They had a hole in their skull and major hearing loss. They couldn't answer the owner because they couldn't HEAR the owner.
Another time about a homeless man who got around town by kicking the ground from his wheelchair. "You know he doesn't actually need that thing, his legs work fine, it's just for pity points"- Oh, so he's not paralyzed, his wheelchair is performative? Funny story Dale, I actually know that guy, he was backed over by a truck and has chronic pain from his shattered pelvis. But sure, let's make him stand up and walk everywhere so nobody feels too bad for him and tries to help him or something.
"She doesn't need that scooter, I've seen her get out of it."
"Look how fat he is, because he just rides around and refuses to get up."
"She doesn't really need that cane- she comes here without it all the time"
Sincerely, truly, from the bottom of my heart- as someone who isn't physically disabled but hears this shit all the time- fuck off
Twitter arguing that no one wants to play a middle aged mother in a video game, meanwhile I am making Zora and playing D4 like she IS a middle aged mother
Not only would I play a middle aged mother, I would make her the hero. Specifically because the last major piece of media with a middle aged mom in a prominent role was just "Taken, But the Parent is Bad" and I am so very tired.
been a real "I reconcile it by fuck you" kind of day
I have to talk about my special interest and "The Lost Horadrim" because I love horses and horse genealogy.
In the book, Lorath tends to a mare named Zerae and her baby colt named Arjak. Zerae is described as dapple grey, which is this color, with some variations, and it comes from a base black gene and a graying gene (that gives the "white" color)
Arjak on the other hand is described as white. Now, while not impossible, most horses are not actually white. They are not born white. The horses we know as white, are actually grey, starting off either black or chestnut, and they progressively lose their color until they are very light grey. A lot of times they look dapple for few years until they become "white" (I got to watch on of the young stallions at my ranch go through this). These white horses, that are dark around the muzzle, are not born white, they are born another color and progressively become white.
You can note this because they have dark around their mouth, as grey horses have dark skin.
This is a dapple mare with a little dark baby, but the baby has a high chance of becoming grey or dapple by the time it matures.
However, a horse CAN be fully white, even though it's very, very rare and this might've been done as symbolism in the book (Lorath bonds with the horse and sees himself and his lost innocence in a white foal and is scared the foal will die without his mother, which symbolizes that death of Lorath's own innocence after Malthael's reaping.)
A fully white colt could come if he has a rare combo of dominant white gene, be a very rare white-born foal which carries a very strong white leopard gene that basically covers the whole body in dots so it appears white, or maybe look white, but actually be double dilute coated cremello or prelino. Either way, these horses will have a bit of a rosy pink skin to them, unlike the greys.
(these are white dominant, white-born leopard and a very diluted perlino, in that order. Note the pink around the eyes, nose and stomach)
So the bottom line is, the little foal is symbolic of being a very special boy and Lorath bonds with him because he is also a very special boy, who lost his innocence and light after severe trauma. Thank you for indulging me in this analysis đ€
I love the symbolism of white horses. Shame they never last long in Blizzard stories...

Having Thoughts about Dracula
I've seen/heard a fair amount of people say that the female vampires in Dracula basically represent women's sexual freedom, and that Dracula the character facilitates the female characters' sexual awakenings and liberation (particularly for Lucy), so it actually makes complete sense for modern adaptations to make Dracula a romantic lead because sexually liberated women are no longer taboo how they were for Victorians. And also that Dracula and Mina's relationship is somehow feminist.
I see the thought process, I do, but I think it's incomplete at best and deliberately ignores a significant amount of information the book gives us about, like, everything relevant.
Both the Lady Vampire Roomates and Vampire Lucy use their sexuality to manipulate and ultimately destroy the men they interact with. This is basically just the femme fatale archetype, which I'm pretty sure is widely considered not very feminist due to the demonization of women's sexuality and other reasons I can't remember at almost 1 a.m. but I'll add later if I remember
The sexuality on display isn't like, at least somewhat consenting adults having a raunchy time with Bram Stoker wagging his finger in the background at them for not being proper Victorian prudes. The sexuality on display is about power and manipulation. The lady vamps seduce the men to lead them into a false sense of security, so they can overpower them and inflict harm. Dracula's line implying he might be homo for Johnathan and the narrative making it clear Dracula is super duper evil? Almost definitely just homophobia. Lady vamps using their sexuality for evil in the same book as a dude vampire using his sexuality for evil? Probably not misogynistic or feminist no matter how you spin it, I think the theme is probably just overt sexuality in general being bad. If we're being generous, it's more specifically about misusing one's sexuality (neutral) in predatory ways (bad). There's also a bunch of broader social commentary being made with the vamps (both relevant historically and currently) that I can't remember at 1 in the morning, but I'll add it if I remember
The newfound sexuality/vampirism is not considered liberating by the women experiencing it, it is confusing, distressing, and very much non consensual and completely out of their control. You could argue Vampire Lucy seems pretty happy, but the book makes it very clear that this new persona has almost nothing in common with Lucy outside of appearance and memories, she's experiencing a loss of self moreso than a liberation from social pressures. If you wanna argue that it only seems like that cuz we're getting the Dude Squad's perspective on the matter, ignoring her own dialogue and diary entries, then I'd argue that there's no point in textual analysis that requires you to throw out half the text without a very strong argument that the narrators are written to be unreliable. Otherwise we're just making shit up.
The scene where Mina is turned is so clearly analogous to rape that interpreting it as liberating in any way is just, I just can't tbh. She's so clearly distraught, she doesn't want to be touched, she literally weeps that she's now unclean, she doesn't even want her husband near her.
Also she is hurt in this way explicitly as a way of hurting the men in her life, Dracula is not just being so sexy it's scary, he's assaulting her because he sees her as an object he can use against other men.
Expanding on the SA allegory of it all, I think a more reasonable interpretation would be that the lady vamps aren't experiencing a sexual awakening, they're experiencing hypersexuality as a trauma response, and perhaps perpetuating a cycle of abuse.
Mina is such an interesting character that reducing her to a love interest for the evil monster that assaulted her, assaulted and killed her best friend, and tortured her then fiance, is actually not feminist at all. It distorts and flattens her character to the point of unrecognizability. It creates a mess of contradictions that don't add any nuance. It removes her agency, especially when she's his reincarnated lover. It necessitates the downplaying of her extremely healthy, supportive relationship built on mutual respect and trust. It's just a disaster of a decision that only ever results in character assassination
I think I had more thoughts when I started this but I'm tired, if I rethink them tomorrow I'll add more
