Frost bite on the rocks, jellyfish, envy, beer, blue cream soda
The drinks from our fanfic, a visual guide.
Usually when boyfriend and I IM, it takes a long walk to get to a drink of water and it’s a nice payoff, but here it was to the point.

jimmythejiver dj has a new film theory: whenever a movie is gonna be edgy and they afraid it won’t do good they throw in a dance! dj’s examples are: american psycho, morbius, the joker and then my brain pinged “it all started with fucking clockwork orange!” oh one more thing, obvs, saturday night fever is the reverse phenomena it’s a dance movie so we better make sure it has an edgy vibe quietthickwaterproof oh, I have a theory to that jimmythejiver yeah? quietthickwaterproof I think I can do this shortly jimmythejiver sure quietthickwaterproof man: manly man: dance, is manly man: now must be gruff man: manly to be nothing but exist man: dances…is not manly…? man: dances, it’s truly lost (or his own man) jimmythejiver whut? This story pretty much pays rent to live in my head and I finally found it again so I’m posting it so I can find it again.

Not a high class restaurant or hotel, just a nice little shop selling fresh house-made pasta and sauces to take home and boil/heat up yourself. We got the stereotypical rich people due to the location smack in the middle of Marin County CA. This was in the late 80’s and food trends were plentiful and rapidly evolving. Many people were very interested in being on the cutting edge of the latest trend, be it the latest hot restaurant or that month’s fabulous must have menu item. Not that they were actually into food, but just to be “in the know” and brag about how you simply must try the most fabulous tiramisu at (latest hot restaurant). We actual restaurant folk would stoically refrain from rolling our eyes in their presence and carry on.
So at the pasta shop one evening, a typical Marin Matron arrived in her jeweled slippers, clattery jewelry and a cloud of perfume. She pushed past the other patrons in front of her and said she needed some squid ink pasta. “I’m sorry,” I replied, “we don’t actually make a squid ink pasta, but you may be able to find it at (fancy grocery store in the same plaza), they carry several very good imported items.” She gaped at me and started moaning “OHHHH NO NO NO NO NOOOOO”, of course now everyone in the place was staring at her. She then told me that she HAD TO have squid ink pasta because she had her “gourmet friends” coming for dinner and they HAD TO have squid ink pasta. I apologized again, explaining that we didn’t make squid ink pasta and again suggested the fancy grocery store, only to be cut off by her loud wailing “OHHHH NO NO NO....” again. I just stood and watched along with everyone else in the place as she paced up and down before the display case, clutching her head and repeating “Squid ink pasta...gourmet friends! SQUID INK PASTA...GOURMET FRIENDS!” over and over at the top of her lungs, as if this incantation would magically call forth a hidden cache of squid ink pasta.
Needless to say, we could not provide said SQUID INK PASTA so I don’t know what she served to her GOURMET FRIENDS that fateful evening. The whole thing was just so bizarre and over the top. Anytime we encountered some delusional, entitled weirdo, we’d mutter ”Squid ink pasta!” and cackle to each other.

Why are you weeping for me?
You mean this line in my last post:
This is all my co-writer's characters and he is excellent in characterization and actions, it makes me weep.
Well, I'll pull out some excerpts:
"I've met someone that doesn't feel like pain," Ignis let slip out. He looked up at his uncle. "Maybe I'm doing it all for him."
"Tell me about him," Uncle demanded, only to clear his throat to his nongangster voice. "I mean, if you want."
Ignis looked off into the garden. "Maybe I don’t know enough to yet." He looked back at his uncle, smiling. "I think that's my favorite part."
[I love this exchange. It establishes Ignis's love for Noctis without stating that's who it is. It also establishes Uncle's attempts to not be gruff and allow Ignis the room to open up if he wants since he's usually private. I like Ignis's hope and optimism here that contrasts with the previous chapters. Almost like a reprieve.]
And then there's this exchange:
Cor put his hands up. He was holding a small case in one hand. "Okay, sorry, you're right. I should have knocked. I heard you sounding upset and I panicked." He glanced at Ignis. "I wanted...I wanted to check on him."
"You stay away from him!" Uncle yelled. "You and yours have done nothing but hurt him! I humored you, but where were you last night?"
"Drinking," Cor answered. "I was...drinking everything in the house and then I ordered more. Shit, I'm still drunk, okay?" He eased down onto the side of the porch near Ignis, burying his face in his hand. "What did Amicitia do?" he asked weakly.
[I love Uncle's serious protectiveness punctuated by Cor's pathetic candidness.]
There's a lot more moments like this and I'm not spoiling Cor's gift, or the cait siths. It's just good and it's a chapter both humorous and touching after too many chapters of weeping in a traumatic or frustrated way. This is weeping like a nice reunion between old lovers, or weeping when someone 'gets' you.
When a designer remembers to emphasize that this is a Disney property.

Gladio's thirsty.
Ignis's got the juice.
So why is the city's most powerful family, the gods' destiny, Cor Leonis, and annoying little brothers doing everything they can to keep these two totally compatible strangers from getting their acts together?
And while they're both incredibly strange, maybe this isn't their first meeting.
This is a collaborative fic we've been writing for about two years (and counting).

Here’s the fanfic @jimmythejiver and I have been working on. We’re finally confident enough to post it. We’re planning on updating every Thursday. We’re super excited and hope people bug us about it forever. XD
I don’t mean to be rude; but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this, does anyone have any examples?
Supernatural
Doctor Who (Steven Moffat specifically)
Sherlock (Steven Moffat specifically)
Actually Steven Moffat is basically just this sentiment given human form.
A version of this happened with The Magicians, tbh. Though instead of expectation: men, reality: women it was expectation: smug nihilists, reality: mentally ill queer folks.
Arguably Game of Thrones.
If we broaden it outside of television…I think Star Wars falls into this, at least the sequel trilogy. Maybe the MCU as well. And I can’t help but think of every band that’s ever complained that their fanbase is mostly women. 5 Seconds of Summer comes immediately to mind.
In general, most white male creators seem to have this massively entitled mindset where they want–and think they deserve–the time, attention, and enthusiasm that creative fandom (i.e. the side of fandom more dominated by women) is known for.
They want our eyes for ratings, our word-of-mouth for free publicity, our metas for social media buzz, and our spending power for merch and cons. But they don’t want us. And they don’t really want the responsibility of telling a story to a thoughtful, engaged audience, regardless of that audience’s demographic makeup. They just want to be praised for whatever schlock they cough up.
And like any other spoiled brat, they will break their toys before they share them.
It goes all the way to the top for kids shows. Toy sales will crash a show. Makes sense, but if those toys are gendered for boys instead of the female viewers, they won’t usually switch up the marketing and move them to the girl aisle. They cancel the show outright.
Mind you it is perfectly possible to make the switch in marketing, but execs would rather throw it all out than have something that doesn’t perform well with male viewers. For example the Rey merch was not expected to be popular, for some reason, there had to be public outcry to get merch of one of the main 3 protagonists. A PROTAGONIST. The fact that she wasn’t a huge part of the 1st launch says a lot already.
And what happened when female fans got too invested in the Sequel Trilogy? The entire writers room didn’t necessarily lash out, but they sure forgot how to behave.
Young Justice
Paul Dini: Superhero cartoon execs don’t want largely female audiences
#WhereIsRey (initial)
#WhereIsRey (ongoing)
The older, male generation of 'Star Wars' fans may be losing interest in the franchise, but female fans are stepping up.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was designed to be the opposite of The Last Jedi
You’re all sitting on the hot take of the decade tbh
And yet when they fond out that boys were watching MLP:FIM in droves, they had NO PROBLEM with it.
I’m tiny to the point of insignificance, compared to the creators mentioned in these posts. I don’t know if it matters, but I am pretty sure my audience is primarily women, and I love that. Men tend to be boring, violent, aggressive, and entitled. I’ve never encountered a single female gatekeeper in my life. I love the codification of women as the “creative side of fandom” because that reflects my experience. Women are just more interesting than men, in general, and I can’t imagine being upset about or trying to hurt them.
A grab bag of hippie art: HAIR cover art, a fashion illustration, Barbie art, a Pepsi poster by John Alcorn, and more.
I don’t know what’s wrong with my photoshop, so more minimalist MSPaint for @jimmythejiver because he loves aliens, I love him, but he never told me when his birthday was. Also, gay. =P
