Preface; Zandalari believe that a person's soul comprises three parts. The first, ts'ome, is located in the head and represents thought or the breath of life. The second is yalot, in the heart and is associated with emotions. The third part is naki, located in the stomach, representing desire and instinct.
Ancient Zandalari revered the hair on their heads as a sacred protector of all parts of the soul. It was forbidden to shave or cut it beyond a trim. A local Priest closely supervised this and trimmings were always burned as an offering to the gods or loa. They firmly believed that a shorn head laid the soul bare to unspeakable dangers and bad luck, and therefore regarded the act as a profound insult.
In the region of Xaman Nikte (now Eastern Nazmir) and the island of Neb'Akakua, the Zandalari perform a ritual during mourning where they cut off parts of their hair. Understandably, Zandalari, deeply rooted in certain traditions, might have been scared or upset by this practice. Today, Zandalari can cut their hair wherever they like, and it's not usually a big deal. However, there are still some Zandalari who hold fast to tradition. They may not say anything directly but will give disapproving looks and gossip.

Long ago, a Zandalari Prince caused a significant uproar by shaving both sides of his head in protest of his Father, who shall not be named. "My soul is laid bare! Let danger come and face me!" The Prince roared. His new appearance was initially met with confusion and fear, but some months later, dozens of people began sporting the new hairstyle called the "Devilsaur".
Long hair in modern Zandalari society is many things such as high fashion, status, power, or a sacred barrier depending on who you ask. It's a respectable discipline, either way.
Certain priests and shaman in their primes generally let their hair become locked, feathered, beaded, muddied, etc. to show wisdom, strength and patience. Want advice? Find the guy with the most stuff in his hair that trails the floor.
Taka's grandfather, Kubasi a'Chimam Canche, is one such priest, but he dedicates his time to travelling between Vol'dun and Nazmir, assisting anyone needing spiritual guidance or a friend. Suffice it to say, you won't find him in Dazar'alor.
