ive always wholeheartedly loved highschool productions of les miserables because when abc students have those young boy voices you feel so much grief at their hope to win knowing that they cant
I lied. We’re going to talk about how the basis for most people shipping Montparnasse and Jean Prouvaire is that both characters are described as effeminate. We’re going to talk about how the fandom has reduced Prouvaire’s character into a flowery twink and Montparnasse’s character to a charming bad boy twink. We’re going to talk about how Prouvaire is described in the book as one of the most valiant members of the ABC and who in fact died alone, and how Montparnasse is selfish and ruthless and has killed several people. We’re going to talk about how being effeminate doesn’t make Prouvaire weak or Montparnasse a good person. No offense to Jehanparnasse shippers but I do not really agree with them.
just saw the US tour of Les Mis in Boston, and holy wow. Something really neat I noticed was, unlike in the movie, after Fantine scratches Bamatabois (in this production she bit him???), the other prostitutes pull her away from fighting him more. & later when Javert comes in and Fantine is on the ground, one of the lovely ladies runs to try to help her up, but Javert pushes her away. Yay women supporting women. Especially since in this production, Bamatabois fully just beat up Fantine with his cane
“I asked ChatGPT-“ yeah okay I asked Victor Hugo and he talked about Waterloo for five hours
jean valjean was 46 when he changed his name and revolutionized the manufacturing industry in Montreuil-sur-mer and became mayor. It's never too late !
what do we think of Icarus Grantaire and, well, Sun Enjolras. I think there is potential here. Grantaire died when he was closest to Enjolras, so like
why did they cut this and can they put it back right now please.
some acting choices I made when I played Lesgles (and Babet and Feuilly!) in my school’s production of Les Mis:
In Red and Black, when Grantaire got up to do his “Some wine and say whats going on” at Marius, I stood and pushed him back into his seat, which was very comical because I’m about ten inches shorter than him.
When Eponine began to collapse into Marius right before A Little Fall of Rain and all the students started, I worriedly took a few steps forward, and then hastily backwards again because Lesgles assumes if he tries to help with anything it will go terribly wrong.
As Babet, I was not mic’d, but Montparnasse was, so in order for me speaking very close to his mic to make sense, I made the “he keeps himself to himself, he’s staying close to the ground” into a little bit of ignoring Thernardier, and being rather annoyed when he jumped in with the “I SMELL PROFIT HERE”. Like dude, ‘Parnasse and I were having a cool bro moment. Do you mind?
Due to a weird backstage turn of events, closing night I was playing Lesgles but in addition saying Feuilly’s lines, so when I yelled the “SNIPERS!!!” line I very wildly looked around to see if anyone heard, because of course Lesgles is going to assume, with his luck, no one will hear his warning and that’s why they all die.
This wasn’t a choice, but the second performance, as I stumbled off the barricade during the deaths, I tried to balance my musket on top of the barricade. As I fell off the barricade myself, it tumbled down as well and clocked me directly in the temple. It was very in character.
mmm allow us to consider a universe where, instead of Lesgles’ bad luck killing him instantly on the barricades, his bad luck is making him the last to die. he watches every other ABC get struck down and his last thought is that it was his bad luck rubbing off on them and he should never have gone to the barricades in the first place and it is his fault that all of them are dead. allow us to consider.
with how much overanalyzing the Les Mis fandom does, I’m a little surprised there aren’t more Lesgles + Prouvaire shippers. I mean guys, after Prouvaire is killed, we literally have a paragraph that’s like “everyone sat below the barricade, except for Lesgles, who sat on top of the barricade and spoke sadly about poetry”. And THEN the love poem that Prouvaire wrote that the ABC recites has the line “lawyer without a case”. An unlucky lawyer, maybe? Maybe?? Sounds like someone I know…
i hate it when people ask me to "explain my thought process" like hell if i know
"what's going on in that head of yours?" nothing i want to be a part of
you should NOT be at the club. you should be in the streets, june 5th, 1832, paris france. you should be building a barricade
barricade day, june 5th: let’s stack some furniture!! Let’s fight the monarchy!! Let’s do it! Vive la France! the people WILL stir!
the morning of barricade day, June 6th: well shit.
breaking thought: Javert is the immortal snail, but when he catches Valjean, he’s the one who dies.
mhm. and what if I was the sad dark haired cynic artist and you were the angelic revolutionary leader who believed in the people. and what if the people never stirred. and what if I stirred from my slumber to hold your hand when we died. what then. what then.
