I have a feeling the Les Mis fans of tumblr dot com will appreciate this so!
Acting choices I made as Gavroche in my school’s production of Les Mis!: (buckle up there’s a lot)
During my first solo in Look Down, I would point across the audience while saying “everyone’s equal when they’re-“ and then I would go “DEAD” and aggressively make eye contact with and point🫵 at someone in the audience. 90% sure I put the fear of god into some random middle schooler by doing that. (Also during Look Down, I would bite one of the coins Valjean gave me in order to verify its authenticity. That was maybe a questionable decision.)
During The Robbery, I would hang out with Eponine while she “watched for the law” and when I would go up to her I would do the classic “tap someone on the opposite shoulder and then pretend you didn’t” thing.
Right before the interjection after Stars, I would slowly walk onstage while Javert was exiting and encourage the audience to applaud for him like “wow! 😀that was a great song right?😀great work from Javert😀!! 😐 just kidding motherfuckers I run this town.”
This wasn’t really an acting choice and more so an “I can’t count while singing to save my life” moment but at the end of Red and Black I would only do a couple “listen to me!”s before I would just go “LISTEN TO ME EVERYBOOOOOOOOOOODYYYYY!!” Until the music stopped, while all of the ABC slowly turned towards me like “wtf”
Whenever we were at the barricade, I was either walking around trying to get a gun from someone or trying to peek over the barricade and getting yanked down and scolded by Prouvaire. Once Grantaire actually gave me a gun and I had a moment of “Oh my god I’m unstoppable they’ll never take the barricades now” until Enjolras immediately clocked it and yanked it away from me.
During the period of time after Little People and before Little Fall of Rain, Javert was tied up onstage and I would stick my tongue out at him, then one night he did it back and we went back and forth just sticking our tongues out at each other.
During Little Fall of Rain, I was so locked in on being DISTRAUGHT over Eponines death that I genuinely cried every night. Also during that song, Grantaire would be holding me until the very end, when she actually dies, at which point he would cover my eyes with his hand and turn my head away. I would also take my hat off and hold it over my chest while she was carried offstage.
During Drink With Me I would try to get a drink from Joly, who was pouring for everyone, and he would be like “😀eh!😀maybeeee!😀🤨just kidding you’re twelve”
Before the final battle, the way I would get offstage was that Enjolras looked directly at me when saying “Let all the women and fathers of children go from here,” then as I realized what was going on, he would signal Feuilly and Prouvaire to grab me, at which point they would be like “alright buddy time to go” and Feuilly would grab my shoulders and Prouvaire would get my legs, so I would be absolutely manhandled offstage while going like “no! Stop it! no! I don’t wanna-let me stay!”
I would die on top of the scaffolding that was our barricade and would just simply stay there until the battle was over, so I would die with one hand hanging off the side of the scaffolding, then Grantaire would take my hand, then slowly let go of it as I believe Marius comforted him(? Idk I couldn’t see that part cause. Ya know. I was dead.) (him taking my hand actually only happened closing night cause the guy playing Grantaire kept forgetting to do it but it was a really cool thing.)
During Emtpy Chairs, Eponine and I were the last to walk offstage, she would go first, then hold out her hand to me and I would take it as we exited. (That was maybe one of my favorite things we did and can take zero credit for it because the girl who played Eponine totally came up with it)
In The Finale, we included Javert, and I was right in between him and Enjolras, so every night I would look between them and smile, then closing night Javert and I smiled at each other during the second chorus and I remember it so vividly because I was tearing up so bad I couldn’t really see him.
